Decent point and click game even if sometimes the puzzles felt counter intuitive.
Maybe it's an issue on my part but the controls on a controller were awful and unresponsive, couldn't figure out how to make all of the interface work properly. I had to switch to keyboard & mouse and didn't have any problems from there on.
Story's interesting, it does follow two different timelines and they do a good job with intertwining them and revealing more and more information about John, Pauline, supporting characters and the Order.
The ending too felt interesting and different.
The atmosphere is good, scenery is changing a lot, no lazy recycling of rooms and backgrounds.
If you got it from a bundle try it if not maybe grab it at a sale. It's a solid story focused game but I see it not being everyone's cup of tea due to the character artstyle, the minor technical annoyances and *sometimes* the voice acting.

Love these kind of games, pity I'm now soft-locked due to someone spamming me messages.

Yesterday Origins is an enigmatic point-and-click adventure game that weaves a narrative full of dark intrigue and supernatural elements. It is both a prequel and sequel to the game Yesterday, but it can also be played as a standalone title.
The game tells the story of John Yesterday and Pauline, who are both struggling with an unusual curse of immortality. However, this immortality comes with a twist; every time they die and come back to life, their memories are wiped clean. The game's core strength lies in its storytelling. It spans various eras, guiding players from medieval Spain to modern times, revealing a narrative full of surprising turns, hidden truths and a diverse cast of characters.
That said, the gameplay aspects leave much to be desired. The game relies on classic point-and-click adventure conventions and while the puzzles are seamlessly integrated into the story, they occasionally suffer from obscure solutions. These cryptic challenges can lead to frustrating trial-and-error moments, detracting from the overall experience.
The controls and interface are where the game faces its most significant challenges. It's apparent that the game's mechanics were primarily designed for tablets (and/or consoles?), resulting in a suboptimal experience for PC gamers. Interaction with objects and characters is cumbersome due to clunky and imprecise controls, which can disrupt the flow of the game.
Furthermore, the game requires pixel-perfect accuracy in finding and interacting with hotspots which leads to unnecessary frustrations. While you may be near an object of interest, you'll often struggle to click on it unless you're in precisely the right position and angle.
On a positive note, the game has a beautiful visual style that enhances the overall experience. The voice acting, however, is a mixed bag, with moments of excellence but occasional lapses into subpar performances. The music in Yesterday Origins is a highlight and provides a fitting backdrop to the game's dark and mysterious atmosphere.
I’m still not sure if I should recommend this game or not. It has many flaws and annoyances, but the story is pretty decent overall. I bought the game for 1,49€ on sale and I think I got my money’s worth.
