As a passionate virtual reality enthusiast, I have explored various VR overlay solutions to enhance my immersive experiences. In this review, I will compare XSOverlay and OVR Toolkit, two popular VR overlay applications, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses.
Let's start with XSOverlay. Right off the bat, XSOverlay impresses with its user-friendly interface and easy setup process. Installing and configuring the overlay was straightforward, making it accessible to both seasoned VR users and newcomers. The customization options provided by XSOverlay allow users to personalize their virtual space and tailor the overlay to their preferences. From floating windows and web browsing capabilities to real-time performance monitoring, XSOverlay provides a versatile toolkit to enhance VR immersion.
OVR Toolkit, on the other hand, offers a robust set of features that also contribute to a more immersive VR experience. Its standout feature is the ability to bring desktop windows into the virtual environment. This allows users to interact with their desktop applications while in VR, making multitasking and accessing external content seamless. OVR Toolkit excels in its window management capabilities, allowing for resizable, movable, and customizable windows within the VR space. Furthermore, the software supports multiple monitors, enabling users to extend their desktops into VR.
In terms of compatibility, both XSOverlay and OVR Toolkit support a wide range of VR platforms and games, ensuring versatility for users across different experiences. However, XSOverlay has a slight edge when it comes to game integration and performance. It seamlessly integrates with various games, providing real-time information and widgets specific to each game. XSOverlay's performance optimization ensures a smooth VR experience without significant impact on frame rates, making it an excellent choice for gamers.
Regarding social integration, XSOverlay offers social media and streaming platform integration, allowing users to stay connected with their audience and manage their online presence within the VR environment. This is an area where XSOverlay surpasses OVR Toolkit, as the latter focuses primarily on desktop application integration rather than social features.
One notable aspect to consider is the community support for each overlay. OVR Toolkit boasts an active and engaged community, with regular updates and new features based on user feedback. On the other hand, XSOverlay's community, while vibrant, may not be as extensive or as frequently updated. However, both applications have responsive developers who actively address user concerns and release updates to improve their products.
In summary, XSOverlay and OVR Toolkit are both solid VR overlay solutions, each with its own unique strengths. XSOverlay shines in its game integration, performance optimization, and social integration features, making it an excellent choice for gamers and content creators who value real-time information and social media interaction. On the other hand, OVR Toolkit excels in its desktop application integration, allowing for seamless multitasking and content consumption within the VR environment. Depending on your specific needs and preferences, either XSOverlay or OVR Toolkit can significantly enhance your VR experience.

Realtime temperature monitoring managed to detect a thermal issue with my GPU in which my fans somehow got switched off entirely due to a glitched fan curve and almost caused serious damage to my card. Thanks to this app I managed to see the temperature spike real time and shut everything down before it was too late.
Thanks, XSO, you saved me a small fire.

I highly recommend this; it makes things easier, plus it has realtime temperature, which is really useful, and you can see your FPS, GPU, CPU, and RAM usage.

It doesn't cause any lag and has everything you could need without having to break everything by opening the SteamVR menu.
It has the best keyboard i've ever used in VR.
I haven't had a single issue with it since I started using it.
It's worth the money even if its not on sale
