World Seed
About
World Seed is a procedurally generated sandbox MMORPG with roguelike features. The main focus of the game is build-diversity & character progression.
“The six gods of the universe battle for singularity and you must fight back to preserve balance.”
In this game you’ll become stronger by crafting & upgrading your equipment or simply roll the dice and hope for some epic loot to drop as you slay enemies.
It’s a harsh world to survive in, so make sure to bring some friends along when in need of help.
Freedom of Choice
Your strategy is valid
World Seed won’t push you in linear line of progression. We believe great games are the ones that offer the player to choose their own path, guided by the rules of the game.
Build diversity
There are few restrictions on how you build your characters. We’re actively working towards keeping most builds and strategies viable.
Distance from center
There is no traditional leveling system in World Seed. The further from the center you travel, the harder the game gets.
Defeating high-level creatures will reward you with equipment of the same gearscore.
Tier progression
The rarity and quality of your items are based on item tier. There are 10 tiers in the game represented by roman numerals.
Every tier of an equipment unlocks new tier perks for you to choose from.
Infinite World
World Seed features an infinite world which is procedurally generated. Its content is renewed every hour.
Crafting
World Seed offers two methods of crafting: your typical “x materials to craft y,” but also upgrading. Upgrading items in World Seed is done by combining three equal items to a better one, yielding +1 in tier level.
Most items in World Seed can be upgraded this way. This offers a unique feature which prevents items from becoming obsolete as you progress further into the game.

I will preface this review by stating that this game is NOT SOMETHING EVERYONE WILL ENJOY!
I however fall in the category that does really enjoy this game and I'm glad I bought it on steam.
For a game that's still in early access and that only has one developer I have been happily surprised by what this game achieves. You're dropped into an infinitely expanding world that gets more dangerous the further from the center you go, which is done one step at a time. You choose a character from a tribe of which each tribe has to different characters that do basically the same, and set out on your journey.
The gameplay loop starts here. You move, enter an autobattle or get resources and move again. This is the game so far. The difficulty of the battle can be estimated beforehand, which is good. As a character that dies is permanently gone and you have to get a new one. I will state again, if this seems unenjoyable, think about buying this game. Or try it for free. There's a web version out there at the time I write this review.
All in all, I like the loop and the quest for ever better gear and the community is amazing in helping out with sharing information and just overall being very positive. I definitely recommend trying it out.
+ fun autobattler that goes at a pace you set yourself
+ different builds that are pretty distinct
+ amazingly fun community to interact with
+ pretty neat game for the price and amount of developers
- Characters could be more distinct within each tribe
- lots of balancing still to do at the time of writing (I trust this will be fixed)
- not for everyone, please look into this game before buying

First Things First: This game is Free to Try, not Free to Play
As the title already states: This game is Free to Try and not Free to Play.
The (solo) developer of the game spend quite some time yesterday updating the store page and the game itself to get this information across before people spend time playing it. It used to be one line on top of the store page, now it is mentioned in a section on top of the store page, plus trough an "In your face" message before creating an account. If you are purely here for a free-to-play or freemium game, this is not the game you are looking for.
That information aside, let's talk about the game itself! And that will be interesting, since World Seed is a game i don't think i can really compare with any other game.
World Seed - A zen pick-up-and-drop game with infinite progression
In World Seed you will start the game being placed in a tile-based world divided in an unlimited amount of "Rings" around the world center town. Each of these rings has increasingly stronger enemies and gear drops, with your character progression purely based around these drops. You will kill hostiles to find more advanced armor and weapons, disassemble them to learn their crafting recipe, gather crafting materials and then proceed to craft more powerful weapons and armor to beat even stronger enemies. Add some enchanting and gear perks on top of that, and you can build a character that can progress further and further into the world. Then rinse and repeat this ad infinitum.
It's a relatively simple game loop, but it is a surprisingly addicting and zen experience. Killing an enemy in a tile or gathering resources takes a few seconds tops, so you can play five minutes (or even less) to get some gear, items and progress towards the next ring and then quit and continue later on where you left. No need to even save the game, as it is entirely server based. Or you can of course get stuck in the "Let me just loot a few more tiles and then i quit for today" loop the same way one can get stuck playing one more turn in a turn-based strategy or 4x game.
If you plan to give the game a try - which i do recommend - go in expecting a simple and easy to pick up game. This is not a game where you will be number crunching the best character build or need to be at the top of your wits to craft a strategy to defeat a boss. In fact it perfectly suits being left open in the background while you do other work, so that you can occasionally alt-tab back to and play a few minutes to refresh your mind before continuing with whatever you were doing before. Or you can sit down and sweep a few rings for resources and progress.
To finish off this review i would add three small points that didn't really fit in elsewhere:
The game is mostly a solo player game. The multiplayer features are (at least currently) limited to a global chat and the ability to duel other players and run dungeons together. For the most part however, you will likely be playing as a solo player.
The solo developer seems to be exceptionally active. I noticed them several hours on end in the game yesterday, quite constantly chatting with the community and answering questions about the game and gameplay. Same seems to apply to the games discord server.
The global chat in this game is was remarkably friendly and helpful during all times i have been playing. The games crafting system is somewhat unusual and this leads to (new) players asking the same type of questions frequently. Even though these questions are repeated quite often, i found that almost always someone was around to help in the global chat.
Finally, a very interesting feature is that the world refreshes loot, shops and item drops randomly on a hourly basis. As players can teleport around and share coordinates in the global chat this leads to some very interesting interactions. Hourly on the dot chat tends to spike in order to communicate the new randomly rolled characters, and during the rest of the hour good loot tiles and randomly spawned markets tend to be shared among everyone. Which drives player interaction quite a bit (And helps everyone progress).

I dropped Lost Ark for this...
You probably wonder why I made this statement. Well World Seed has all the things you would probably enjoy in all those f2p/mobile "mmo" games. Character progression to infinity, builds, random (kinda) gear drops. Some exploration. Co-op dungeons/bosses. But it actually is free to play on the web version, and it does not gate you with stamina refreshes, pay to get more powerfull gear/characters etc. You can play as much as you want, whenever you want.
You start from the center of the map, get some gear drops to increase your item level. Then you go out to the higher level areas, get higher level gear, and repeat. It is grindy. You will not reach the crazy hundrends of thousands dmg/item-level fast. And I must admit it might get repetive. Not sure, I still have lots of fun on my fourth area. Combat is automatic, your character(s) trade blows with the enemie(s) untill someone retreates or dies. There are some elemental effects you can have on your gear, but it is simple. Better numbers result in victory. If you die you lose your character, and whatever he is wearing. And start with a new one of your choice again. It is not that bad, early game at least, because you can get some materials and craft the gear pretty fast again. Unlesss you had some mats laying arround in your bank (you probably have). There are no character levels, everything is about gear. There are coop dungeons for special loot also, but you will probably spent most of the time exploring and grinding gear.
This is all I have experienced so far, and allready loving the game. It will be my chill farming, rpg game. And it can be totally free if you want to, I chose to purchase it on steam to support the dev. Personally got tired of the time gating mechanics of the f2p model games, and their shenanigans to get me hooked. This game fits like a glove on that place of my steam library. And will gladly spent money on it again, as long as I play it.
Really looking forward to see where the development of World Seed will get it.

The game is for those who enjoy progress for progress' sake.
There is no goal. This is a 5/5 Netflix supplement or work aid.
You have low level gear, you kill monsters til you find higher level gear.
You dismantle that higher level gear to learn how to craft it.
You farm resources and go craft higher level gear.
Now you can kill higher level monsters.
Repeat for ever.
If you die, you make a new character and lose your equipment but keep your inventory.
You die a lot. Get used to crafting yourself new gear. Always dismantle your highest found level equipment.

This is going to seem like a back-handed compliment, but bear with me.
This game shouldn't work, but it super does. It's a really interesting game design. On paper, it seems wrong: there's no tactics, no action, very little risk. You click a hex, make a choice of what you want to do there (usually explore for coin, kill a monster, or gather a resource), and then click another hex, all in the service of making numbers go up. It seems very simple at first, but as those numbers start going up, so do your options, and as your options go up, you start setting more and more ambitious goals for yourself. It's a very sandboxy game about finding the right mathematical line through all the systems and riding it as far as you can. Death is permanent but easily avoidable and really is more of a speed bump than a reset.
That said, I can definitely see how it would not be for everybody. But if you like figuring out systems and navigating increasingly complex mechanics, you will be in heaven, as I am.
The community is also great so far, and the dev themselves even hangs out in the chat. They seem like good people, and are very enthusiastic about the game and it's community.
Try the free demo and keep an open mind. You'll know pretty quick if it's for you or not. I find it fascinating and compelling.

seems like a good time waster for people with more free time than I have.
I'm not sure it's the game for me, but the Dev is really involved, and the payment model is very fair
the actual gameplay is somewhere between a board game and an rpg. grindy resource gathering and heavily focused on crafting

Impressive Indie MMORPG that does things differently. It's causal and has a very laid back style of gaming. Combat is handled automatically, you do have all the expected gear slots to fill and customize towards your character. Not a lot of instruction, but just enough that you can figure things out on your own with little bit of old school trial and error. For the sub $10 price this game is worth the adventure and has a lot to offer. I feel like you will know within the 2 hours refund window if you want to keep going or not.
Crafting / Enchanting is very simplistic, but fits the game perfectly.
Multiplayer - Kind of hard early game to really do anything other then duel friends, if you find a dungeon you can run it together. Still need to explore this further, but so very it's a bit lacking for an MMORPG.
Here is my first hour of game play if you want to see it in action.
