Voodoo Vince Remastered
The classic character platformer is back for the first time in over 13 years, and now in glorious high definition! Vince’s adventure takes him from the streets of New Orleans to the depths of a Louisiana bayou to find the whereabouts of his keeper, Madam Charmaine. In true voodoo style, Vince encounters and defeats quirky monsters and villains … by kicking his own butt! By racing under a falling safe, jumping into a high-speed blender, or leaping under falling rubble, Vince is sure to defeat his enemies—all while managing to escape completely unscathed. Voodoo combat action: Players can employ more than 30 voodoo attacks that do outrageous things to Vince, but it's the monsters who end up hurting! Unlike in other games, players must actually USE dangers and hazards, instead of running from them. Falling safes, prickly pushpins, and bolts of lightning bring a whole new meaning to the phrase "no pain, no gain."

Should be only fair I review this after having the remaster since day 1 and having nearly 30 complete saves and cutting to 100 hours in LMAO
Having been a huge Voodoo Vince fan since I was a preschooler, and it being my very first video game alone, this is a fantastic remaster re-release for a wonderful game. I’ve played this game in its original state my whole life and know every nook and cranny like the back of my own hand. It’s meant a lot to me and peaked my interest in New Orleans history and culture. This remaster is a true love letter to original fans of the game and for a new generation to love.
Pros:
-The graphics are insanely great and absolutely eye candy for those who enjoy early 2000’s platforms in its fullest glory. They’re upscaled gorgeously you can practically feel the grit of the bricks. But it’s also a great thing that we can see all the graphical posters and signs that were blurry and pixelated in the original game.
-The movements and animations are butterly smooth! I didn’t realize how big a difference it truly was until I went back to the original game. The 60fps Voodoo Vince Remaster has is spoilingly good.
-The fact we can now zoom in or out of the surround viewing via the option/settings is a GODSEND. I usually keep mine fully zoomed out so I can see my surroundings crisp and clear. But while this is totally an illusion in itself, you really do feel faster!
-The colors!! I’m not sure how, but they somehow look even more vibrant in the Remaster. It’s not overwhelming at all, it’s just beautifully suiting and looks just how I remembered, but even better.
-New Easter eggs!! It’s been such a blast hunting down all of them!! I love new content in my favorite video game!!
-There’s a hidden T-Pose vince found beneath a stage and that’s awesome
Cons:
-Sometimes the characters (not including Vince), will turn into a square and start cutting through the walls and floors. It’s most noticeable in the Brusque Manor. I’m pretty sure this was spoke about somewhere, and I understand now it’s something that can’t be fixed so I won’t rag on it too hard, but still a shame that something ended up broken along the way.
- Super nitpicky but the water in the remaster reminds me of Jell-o. It’s similar in the original, yes, but the water in the original was way more murky and even had mossy algae floating in some sections of water. It was simple, but REALLY added to the environment. It’s not present in the Remaster and the water isn’t murky-colored at all anymore. It was such a simple effect that added so much so I was a little sad to not see that here. But again, nitpicky.
-I’m not sure why but so SO many things look super oily. I can give a shrug and a nod to some of them but when it comes to old, rusty, beat up metal, it looks a little off and like the water, it takes away from the environment. Reggie and Primo as a huge example, are full of rust bubbles and worn dull metal. Yet, they still appear very shiny. It’s a reoccurring texture I noticed on things that really shouldn’t be shiny but more old and worn. Another nitpick absolutely, but we love a good environmental telling.
-Sometimes the audio will cut off at awkward times before the dialogue ends. Usually it would fade into the stage music in the original but now it often times just abruptly ends. Along with that, the animations sometimes don’t line up with the audio. Never even always, some playthroughs it’s completely fine and other times it’s not. It’s strange, but when it works, it works!
Another minor note that goes in neither category, the new track for Earth, Water, and Wood is a great new addition. I love it, Steve Kirk never misses. My only wish now is that the original track for the stage was somehow preserved in the Remaster. Some offhand select in the menu. Or just a way for new fans/players to still listen to it. I genuinely love both tracks for the stage and both are fitting! But I can also agree the new one is more uplifting and fun while the original was calm and somber. But it was beautiful.
Voodoo Vince Remastered overall is fantastic and a dream come true to finally have this in modern day. And now with steam deck, I get to take my favorite game on the go! I really couldn’t be happier that this game wasn’t left in the dust, that it’s still thought about and cared for. I sure haven’t stopped. It’s definitely not a Voodoo Vince 2, but you can’t beat an original either!
Many thanks for bringing this classic back. I hope Vince gets more shining light someday in the future again!

I was a 3D platform kid. Mario 64, Banjo, DK64, Sonic Adventure, Spyro, Kao, Croc, Crash... those were my drugs of choice.
I remember when this game was announced and I was on it. But my collectathon dreams were cut short since this was a OG Xbox exclusive. Although the X360 was everywhere in Brazil in my teens, I never met one soul who owned an OG Xbox. To make matters worse, this game was never eligible for backwards compatibility so it always felt like the one game which escaped me.
But, to my satisfaction, the original designer of this game is actually a big shot at Microsoft nowadays and maybe that helped bringing this remastered version to life in 2017.
So now, 20 years after the original release I can finally put my teenager dreams to rest.
So what's the game like? The most beautiful and charming jank ever. The OST is great and how the game doesn't take itself seriously at all make for a very enjoyable experience. Vince is surprisingly capable with his double jump, spin attack and hover combo and the game pace is nice and quick. Gets it over with before overstaying it's welcome. The only part I disliked was the last level where the jankiness felt a tad too much.
Overall a nice and funny little game. A cool one for 3D platform fans, but nothing special if you were not really into the genre already.

Tons of fun on the Steam Deck.

One of my favorites, and one that I still cannot believe got a remaster. I adore this game in all ways -
But the remaster changed out that absolute bop of a piano tune in the Earth Water and Wood level. I'll never forgive it for that, but I love it nonetheless.

This is a fantastic game. Brings back nostalgia, but also is just fun to play. I love the scripting of Vince in particular. Sarcastic heroes are my favourite.
