Mods are required for this game, let me emphasize that as much as possible, the game out of the box is at the ass end of assville but if you put some elbow grease in it then you're gonna get the best VR game out there, also note that a lot of SE mods also work on VR

The vanilla game is terrible (reason for all the negative reviews, and of course the steep price - 60€), modding is the go-to.
I strongly recommend getting the "FUS" (Fundamentals, Upgrades & Stuff) modlist (made for VR in mind),
there's tons of easy guides online to follow.
It contains pretty much everything you could ever need (you can of course add more to it).
Perfect starting ground for new and experienced.

Without mods, it's horrible. I was actually surprised at how bad the combat was vanilla. However, with mods the game is amazing! Simply, amazing! I highly recommend it if you're willing to go through some minor hassle to get the game sorted properly. Personally I used Wabbajack to download the FUS modpack. Game is absolutely killer now. It's the least amount of time and effort I've had to spend modding any Bethesda game. There are comprehensive guides on YouTube walking through this process. Virtual Panda has a great video explaining the few steps you need to take to absolutely overhaul this game.
