So this appears to be a marmite game.
If you grew up playing FIFA and Pro Evo post PS2 era than I'd probably say avoid this game due to the jank.
However, if like me you grew struggling through games like European Club Soccer on Mega Drive and Goal Storm on PS1 then chances are you'll love this game.
When it works, Super Arcade Soccer 2021 is actually a really fluid game to play. Passing is really good, like better than modern football games, as you get to pass exactly where you want with the power you want rather than the scripted auto passes and I've had fun with it in the short space of time I've played it.
However, there's a few bad things.
AI is very 90s. Your teammates will just stop and stand still on occasions, leaving you as the only player on your team moving which is somewhat frustrating when you want someone to make a run forward. Auto switching players doesn't work so you have to remember to manually switch players otherwise the opponents just run straight through.
Tackling is a big problem. I can't seem to work out how to do a pressing tackle, so slide seems to be the only reliable way. However nearly every single sliding tackle results in a card, and red seems as common as yellow. It seems that you can run into the opponents and occasionally they will release the ball.
The funniest thing that happened during one of my games is that I went to tackle an opposing player and he started doing an "Antony Turn" for ages and didn't stop but and I couldnt get the ball off him. So that's why anything does it haha.
All in all it's a hanky game but I paid 71p for it and I can't complain at all. If you're as old as me I'd definitely say give it a buy.

Super Arcade Soccer 2021 is an arcade football title developed and published by OutOfTheBit Ltd., a studio that clearly understands the appeal of classic sports games. Instead of pursuing realism and official licensing, the game takes inspiration from the golden age of top-down football experiences, delivering a fast-paced alternative to modern simulation giants. Its design philosophy revolves around simplicity, instant accessibility, and pure entertainment, creating an experience that feels equally suited for short gaming sessions and extended multiplayer marathons.
The first thing players will notice is the game's unmistakable retro personality. The colorful visuals, compact stadiums, and exaggerated animations create an atmosphere that feels nostalgic without appearing outdated. Every element is built around maintaining the pace of the match, ensuring that players remain focused on the action rather than presentation. While the graphical style is relatively modest compared to contemporary sports releases, it possesses a distinctive charm that complements the arcade-focused gameplay. Combined with energetic audio cues and an upbeat soundtrack, matches maintain a lively and engaging rhythm from kickoff to the final whistle.
Gameplay is where Super Arcade Soccer 2021 truly distinguishes itself. Controls are highly responsive, making passing, shooting, and tackling feel immediate and satisfying. The title introduces a variety of unconventional mechanics that set it apart from traditional football games. Special abilities, unusual arenas, and environmental modifiers add layers of unpredictability that constantly change the momentum of a match. These features ensure that no two games feel exactly alike, encouraging players to adapt on the fly. Although these mechanics occasionally push the experience into chaotic territory, they also provide many of its most memorable moments.
The amount of content available is impressive for an independent sports title. Players can participate in tournaments, compete against AI opponents, and enjoy both local and online multiplayer modes. The extensive lineup of teams offers plenty of opportunities to create custom competitions and rivalries. Multiplayer is especially enjoyable, as the game's arcade design naturally lends itself to competitive sessions with friends. The quick match lengths and easy-to-understand controls make it accessible even to newcomers who may not typically play sports games, while experienced players can spend time mastering advanced strategies and positioning.
Another strength lies in the balance between accessibility and skill. Beginners can quickly grasp the fundamentals, but there is enough nuance beneath the surface to reward dedication. Timing passes, exploiting openings in the defense, and understanding when to utilize special mechanics can significantly impact performance. The AI provides a respectable challenge across multiple difficulty settings, allowing solo players to steadily improve without feeling overwhelmed. This balance makes the game approachable while maintaining enough depth to justify repeated play sessions.
That said, Super Arcade Soccer 2021 is not without its limitations. Players looking for realistic player models, official leagues, or deep management systems may find the experience lacking. The arcade mechanics can occasionally become overwhelming, particularly in matches where multiple special effects are active simultaneously. Online activity can also vary depending on the time of day and player population, making it difficult at times to consistently find opponents. Despite these shortcomings, none of them significantly detract from the game's primary objective: delivering entertaining football action.
Ultimately, Super Arcade Soccer 2021 succeeds because it remains committed to its vision. It does not attempt to imitate the realism of major sports franchises, nor does it pretend to be anything other than a celebration of classic arcade football. Its combination of accessible controls, creative mechanics, and enjoyable multiplayer makes it a standout choice for players seeking a more lighthearted take on the sport. OutOfTheBit Ltd. has crafted a title that captures the spirit of old-school football games while adding enough modern features to keep the experience fresh and engaging.
