So this appears to be a marmite game.
If you grew up playing FIFA and Pro Evo post PS2 era than I'd probably say avoid this game due to the jank.
However, if like me you grew struggling through games like European Club Soccer on Mega Drive and Goal Storm on PS1 then chances are you'll love this game.
When it works, Super Arcade Soccer 2021 is actually a really fluid game to play. Passing is really good, like better than modern football games, as you get to pass exactly where you want with the power you want rather than the scripted auto passes and I've had fun with it in the short space of time I've played it.
However, there's a few bad things.
AI is very 90s. Your teammates will just stop and stand still on occasions, leaving you as the only player on your team moving which is somewhat frustrating when you want someone to make a run forward. Auto switching players doesn't work so you have to remember to manually switch players otherwise the opponents just run straight through.
Tackling is a big problem. I can't seem to work out how to do a pressing tackle, so slide seems to be the only reliable way. However nearly every single sliding tackle results in a card, and red seems as common as yellow. It seems that you can run into the opponents and occasionally they will release the ball.
The funniest thing that happened during one of my games is that I went to tackle an opposing player and he started doing an "Antony Turn" for ages and didn't stop but and I couldnt get the ball off him. So that's why anything does it haha.
All in all it's a hanky game but I paid 71p for it and I can't complain at all. If you're as old as me I'd definitely say give it a buy.
