Didn't review this game after playing it as it left me a very lukewarm sensation.
I won't extend myself as there are many other reviews out there, so I will give my general impression.
- Most characters have typical anime traits, in a bad way, and their personality can get quite annoying if that's not your cup of tea.
- Story is mostly bland and predictable. The "redemption arc" for some characters is quite half-assed.
- Level design is mediocre in general, but some locations are beautifully made, aesthetics wise. Makes you want to check all the corners.
- Battles can be notably fun and addictive. Each character has their own battle style, similar to other SO games. Some of them are clearly easier/more fun to use.
- Some battle mechanics can be hard to understand, partially due to badly designed tutorials. The game starts with a LONG tutorial, which makes the mechanics feel more complex than they should. One of the worst possible ways to start an RPG.
In short: The game has many points that could be improved, but it's still fun enough to make you want to complete the story.
Also, it plays perfectly on Steam Deck. I preferred it over a bigger PC screen.

Despite the "not supported" warning, works great on steamdeck, and looks amazing when supersampled on desktop.
An underrated game. Weak story, but it overcompensates with a fun battle system, a top-tier prog rock soundtrack and beautiful visuals that still hold up today. Highly recommended.

I dont understand why this game as mixed reviews cause it was an amazing experience. Loved it was not 90% medeival fantasy like previous Star Ocean games. This is the most Star Ocean game, space exploartion, planet hoping to multiple planets and alot of sci-fi. The game is a bit rough around the edges but if you get through the intense amount of grinding, goofy anime dialogue and scenes its a very fun game.
The english VAs is a bit questionable but you get used to it. It kind of adds to the charm of the game.

Honestly this is my favorite Sar Ocean game. Played it on my Xbox 360 back when it first released and now i'm going through it on steam. Others saying the battle parts are clunky because of this DRM isn't true on my end. This game runs smooth. Graphics are good and the story is great. If you haven't tried this one yet you have to give it a shot. Specially when it goes on sale for just $6.29 though i'd say it's worth picking up at full price.

Fantastic RPG elements, very grindable. Multiple difficulty options, meaning grind less if you just want an incredible storyline. Multiple endings and a fantastic item creation system. Four-member party battle system with a maximum interchangable roster of 8 characters by the end of the game. The item creation system allows you to far exceed power levels of regular equipment, however takes some devotion to really kick into gear and thus can totally be ignored on a typical playthrough if you truly didn't want to put the time into it. I played the 2009 original on my Xbox 360 years ago, and must say this is one of the most impressive remastered editions of a game I have seen in quite some time. Changes from the original include the option to switch between two in-game user interface art styles, as well as the option to switch voiced audios to the original Japanese voice acting paired with English Subtitles. Visually, the enemy models are stunning compared to that of the original, which surely I played on a crappier box tv, but seriously. The models of the first enemies you see are a tell-tale improvement. Very crisp. I'm buckled down for another couple playthroughs now that the game looks this fantastic.

This is probably the most Star Ocean game out of all of them, multiple planets that you revisit, space battles and hark backs to the series roots with both locations from the original game along with soundtracks from previous games at different points too. I can see why this is mixed though, it has a big, empty world with lots of running around and the English voice acting is......eh
Overall nostalgia aside this game is still worth playing

This is a great game i have played it through four times before on different systems. I have played all of the Star Ocean games in the past so I bought this on steam as soon as i seen it.
