Squad is a tactical FPS that provides authentic combat experiences through teamwork, constant communication, and gameplay. It bridges the large gap between arcade shooter and military simulation with 100 player battles, combined arms combat, base building, and a great integrated VoIP… Squad is a large scale combined arms multiplayer first-person shooter emphasizing combat realism through communication, team play, emphasizing strong squad cohesion mechanics as well as larger-scale coordination, tactics, and planning. It features 20 large open maps, vehicle-based combined arms gameplay, and player-constructed bases to create a heart-thumping, visceral gaming experience with split-second decision-making in real-world scale firefights.

Please remove the stupid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ "Welcome to Squad" video every time I launch the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game. I think it's pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ clear I know what game I just launched, don't you think? There is NO reason to get my ear drums blasted with this stupid English chud's voice whenever I press play. Give me a boring loading screen that doesn't make tabbing out of the game and adjusting the volume a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pain in the ass.
I can't adjust the game's volume in the volume mixer. I can't tab back into the game once I tab out. What ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ clownery is this?

Squad is for autistic players like me and my wife’s boyfriend who find Arma 3 too complicated.
It’s like if Battlefield 3 and Arma had a baby but lost all customization. Still fun.
Or like if ARMA tried to be fun.
My wife’s boyfriend calls it a Conference call simulator.
In truth it’s just another way to kill your feelings and lose your sanity. I can’t pay attention to my anxiety and crippling existential dread if I have to worry about my 9 squad mates, a nearby mortar fob and hunting down btr’s after all.
A more realistic Battlefield game, is how I would describe it in a sentence. I wouldn't call Squad a milsim but more a milsim lite. It will never be Arma or Ready Or Not. Yes, you need to slow down if you want to survive a firefight, but anyone can still spawn in and jump straight into the fighting. Communication and sound design are what I consider to be the hallmarks of Squad. No other game relies on strangers talking to other strangers more than this one. The team that communicates will always beat the team that doesn't in Squad. No argument.
What I mean by a more realistic Battlefield is the combined arms experience in a match setting. Squad was first conceived as a mod for Battlefield 2. The Project Reality mod. Squad is just that mod but with the Battlefield IP cut out of it and dumbed down a little to be made more accessible for a mainstream audience. Tbh, Squad is not a game I would recommend to someone getting into FPS games for the first time. If they don't even know what Battlefield is, Squad is not for them. Yet at least. Squad is the game for people who have played Battlefield and said, "Man, I like this. But I wish it was less arcadey." Which is the exact reason the devs first made the mod and then this game.
No other FPS relies on strangers talking to other strangers more than this one. Communication is what sets Squad apart from other shooters. You can successfully lone wolf in Squad. You can frag out without saying a word, but I guarantee that the game is much more enjoyable when you're using comms with your squad. The best part about Squad is cheering on that 1-0 ticket end-game screen with people you met only an hour beforehand. With that said... I have SO MUCH fun in this game. You have to find the right group. If you join a squad that the squad leader/squad just never talks... That's not the right group. Active and objective based squad leaders are a little difficult to find. When you get one... You'll likely know. You're a group that makes things happen. It will be a mostly positive experience and it's awesome. Experiencing a cooperative squad is really fun. It's a group of people making things happen together. Hell yeah!!
Squad again is a game that really is about teamwork. You'll need a mic, you'll have to coordinate with your squad and comunicate with them the enemy positions, make plans with them and so on. You cooperate with your squad also depending on your kit. For example, if you become a rifleman, you are the only one to have an ammo bag and you should stay near the AT to give him new projectiles against enemy vehicles when they encounter your squad. If you're a SL (don't become when you're a new player), you need to not only make plans for your squad, but also coordinate with the other squads. If you're an MG, you need to supress the enemy so that your teammates could flank them and take them out or to stop an enemy advance.
In squad, the individual skill (fast reaction times to fire) is also important but less than the teamwork skill. In order to be effective, you'll have to think tactically and locate yourself in strategic positions in order to make kills but for the whole team(not squad) to win, they will have to be more coordinated than the enemy team. You will have to move slowly while advancing since you can't hit sh*t if you don't have full stamina. If you're the one ambushed, get into cover and tell your squad about that enemy; if you try to shoot him first, you will only give him time to have a clear sight on you and kill you (depends on the situation of couse). If you're not near a cover, you could try and supress him, if you have a damn idea where he might be, while getting into cover so he will miss you (again depends on the situation).
In Squad, there are 3 major gamemodes: RAAS, AAS and Invasion. In RAAS, there is a random line of objectives from your main to their main that you can't see until you capture the objective before. In AAS, you know the line of objectives when the game starts. In Invasion, one team defends that line on objectives while the other team tries to capture it one by one. You could also play armor, I usually don't play it so I don't have much to say about it. There needs to be 2 crewman in order to use them: one to drive, one to shoot. They should also coordinate with the infantry.
It's a great game! There's no progression system or anything like that, so you'll be at the same content level as everyone else. Join a server that says "New Players Welcome" or "New Player Friendly" for best results. Join a squad and say "hey, I'm kind of new so sorry if I mess up" and 99% of all players will help you learn the game. This is one of the best communities for teamplay that's out there right now, and I guarantee you'll walk away with at least one extremely memorable story about your time playing.
In conclusion, Squad ain't another bland cookie-cutter fps clone that gets forgotten after a year or two when people hop onto the next "current" thing. Squad has maintained a substantial population of gamers for over five years, and is still going strong. This isn't one of those multiplayers that everyone will be done with in a couple months. People will keep playing squad for years - there is nothing in any dev's pipeline that will hit the same niche. I definitely recommend if you are looking for realism; the physics, graphics, player interactions and also the fact that its 50v50 players makes it awesome.

Spawned in. Heard gunfire. Ran toward it for 15 minutes. Turns out it was our gunfire. I died to friendly mortars. Twice.
Respawned. Got lost. Hid in a bush for safety. Tree provided comfort. Named it Greg. Greg was my only friend.
Then I got shot in the back by a child with a Mosin. Greg watched it all.

before update, i had a game that worked well and had good visibility at lowest settings and i sunk 3.5k hours in. after update it isnt playable at all for me, a big void in my outlet for the stresses of life. all the people i played with, who made the games enjoyable, completely out of my life now. thats my personal comparison. i get so disheartened seeing all these youtubers raving
about the graphics...

After 3,500 hours I recommend that you skip this absolute trash game. It used to be fun 4 years ago but now its just filled with complete morons who ruin the game. Its not tactical or strategic at all. Do yourself a favor and completely skip this garbage fire of a game.

This game finds a good balance between the arcade spawn die loop of battlefield and the slower pace of ARMA. No Nicky Minaj skins and authentic loadouts. There are bugs, and there are some EPIC moments when an entire 50 man team comes together to complete an objective. Highly recommend this game in 2025.
