Space Robinson: Hardcore Roguelike Action
You are an ordinary engineer sent to Colony 21 located on a distant planet to perform maintenance works. You end up surviving a spaceship crash and make it to the abandoned Colony Base. While you are trying to find the answers, you understand that this place is not as friendly as it seems. You are just like a Robinson, trying to survive on a hostile planet lost in outer space. This is a rogue-like game. You’ll die. You will die. YOU WILL DIE!!! A million times. Then tutorial ends and you’ll get a chance to fight real Monsters. Every single level across 3 big locations is procedurally generated, so you will always find a new spot to die! Do you still think you will survive?! But wait! If you are tough enough to storm through a couple of levels, you might make it to an outpost where you can refuel and find hints on what has happened to the colonists. You have somehow managed to survive the day? Don’t worry, this planet has some nightlife to offer! Experience a completely different Night Mode that will make you… DIE, of course! If you are lucky enough, you can find artifacts and create bots to help you! Start with a cute puppy that turns into a furious beast once the monsters are in sight.

What can I say? The devs seem to wanted to make a solid rogueish game without any BS. The pistol feels like a pistol, the shotgun like a shotgun. You don't get trashcans firing rotten fish or similar. No, this stays simple and solid. In every level, you find at least one new gun and an upgrade. You can hold two guns and a basically infinite amount of upgrades, but you have to choose 1 of 3 each time. There's some permanent progression which will make the game easier over time, but that's nothing to write home about.
If you want a rock solid bullet-doding rogue-lite top-down shooter, this is it. As a bonus, this game is pretty cheap as well and it has a generous demo, in fact so generous that I could never finish it, because I'm too bad, not because the game is unfair.

It seems to me this game might take a lot of inspiration from Nuclear Throne, due to the design, art style and gameplay feel. It's fast, the level is one big room, you've got several ammo types and fairly basic yet satisfying weapons.
However, compared to that game, it's
1) Roguelite, with more progression between runs
2) Cheaper
3) Less BS/unfair
4) More skill based
5) More Bullet Hell-ish, akin to Enter The Gungeon, which i find more enjoyable
6) Has more passive items and such to play with, and a single character, instead of several ones with just one passive
The game is fairly difficult, but it's fair, and skill based, even if it's designed as a Rogue Lite. Although the enemies can get a little bit tanky at times, and they come in high density. At least the game comes with a pseudo easy mode in the form of activating a bonus at the hub to get +2 max hp (7 total). I havn't played much so i can't speak too much on the content, but it seems fairly decent for the price.
Aside from a few minor issues, the game looks, sounds and feels good to play.
I might edit the review to detail it more once i beat the game at least once, but so far i'm having fun, it's a fairly good deal if you got a coupon.

Space Robinson is a roguelike rpg set on a mining colony in space,where you have to get crystals,survive waves,explore the zones and beat up bad bosses.
It's a very simple game,with decent graphics,smooth gameplay and interesting upgrade features,allowing you to build up your character and base as well. The music is really nice,the base has a very chill song to relax after smashing and shooting for 20 minutes straight,but also the weapons are fun and have different versions of them,being fire or ice elements or just ricocheting bullets,explosive or penetrating.
It's fun,decent,has a little bit of artistic side to it,generally it's a good roguelike,nothing spectacular or anything,but it's good. Worth a try.

EDIT June 16, 2020: I'm changing my review from negative to positive after testing the update released earlier today.
The devs took the time to time to address the main issue I had with the game which was the lack of instructions for obtaining the necessary components for the base repairs so now, it's clearly written in the game by checking the broken equipment in the base.
Additionally, a leveling system was added, it was a bit unexpected but it's a welcome feature as it will help to further progress without the game getting too tedious like previously.
I’m now happy with the sate of the game and so I can recommend it to people that like the genre or are interested to give it a try!
And if the devs see me review, kudos to team!
Original Review
I really have no pleasure to drop a negative review for Space Robinson as I bought it right after it came out on Steam, I'm all for indie and Roguelike games but I hardly find any pleasure to try progress in this game because of how the progression system was designed.
Basically, you have a base and you need to find components to repair some of the equipment there that will provide handy resources to help for new runs including new allies and the way you get the components is mainly not about playing the game normally by trying to defeat all enemies and progress though the levels, no, you will need to do things that you would never do under normal circumstances (like use melee only, don’t use any medkit, etc.) which I think is still ok but the major problem I have here is the following: the game only provides very vague clues on how to get the components and so it’s mandatory to leverage following community guide:
If I think about other similar games, things usually unlock by just playing the game using different equipment or because of the odds so you come across game changer events that will end up you getting new stuff but it's not the case here and it really annoys me.
I’m the type to never go look out for guides out there unless I’m done with a game and want to ensure I didn’t miss anything but here, I have no choice if I want to try to progress within the game, which really sucks.
The other aspects of the game are nice, good gameplay, cute graphics and nice synthwave'ish music but because I almost played 6 hours and only found two components even though I usually reach the second biome within a run (2-1 or 2-2), this really looks wrong to me so consider this review more as a warning of the people that may not want to rely on a community guide to be able to further progress within the game.
EDIT: something I thought about but forget to mention in my initial review. Suggestion for the devs: allow players to unlock artefacts by buying them with a huge amount of gems.

Solid rouge-lite game. There are a few things you should be aware of though. As of 10/13, there is little to no information out on how to unlock things. There is a singular semi-clear guide on how to unlock some of the things , but the thing is, the tips you get on how to unlock them in-game are lackluster at best. You have to go out of your way to figure them out. You might unlock 2-3 things randomly but the vast majority of the unlockables, you have to try specifically for them. They kind of tell you what to do, but some of them you'll be stuck with trying what you "think" you're supposed to do only to find out later that It was completely wrong.
Really great game, but the documentation is poor at best and be prepared to be browsing steam forums for a while until more information comes out.

Space Robinson:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your name is Ethan and you’re an engineer and employee of the Vast Corporation. One drilling module in the Colony 21 needs repairing and the Vast Corporation is sending you there to fix it. As you are about to land on Colony 21, your spaceship’s main computer malfunctions and instead of landing like a leaf on the ground, your vessel crashes onto the planet. Luckily, you survive the impact. You might have dodged the bullet once, but you’ll quickly find out that Colony 21 is infested by aliens; it’s going to be a humungous task to stay alive, let me tell you. Good luck in Space Robinson.
Space Robinson is a top-down/rogue lite action game developed by Luxorix Games and published by Alawar Premium on the 8 of October 2019 on Steam.
After completing a small tutorial, you’ll gain access to the main base. The base has several rooms, including two medical bays with three machines to repair, three animal paddocks (pig, dog and raccoon), a botanical garden, a maintenance room (wrench symbol) and another two. All rooms, with the exception of the botanical garden and the paddocks, will have machines to fix and you’ll need to find a specific artefact during your next gameplay to repair each one of them (check out the clues on the machine). When you manage to do so, you’ll be rewarded with permanent upgrades. In one of the rooms, you’ll find a green cylinder. This will allow you to change the level of difficulty for your next playthrough. When you’re ready, go to the room with the teleporter and prepare to die!
The gameplay is simply superb. Ethan will carry a gun and a wrench as his main weapons at the start of the game. Depending in which level of difficulty you have decided to play, Ethan’s hair will be either red or green. Red is normal difficulty while green is easier. Regardless, you’ll die a lot! In each level, you’ll find crates; the blue ones will give you ammunition, the red ones a new weapon, and the purple ones will give you a large number of crystals which you’ll need in order to power your base. Each location has three levels. For the first two, you’ll need to find your way to the teleporter and eliminate as many aliens as you can. There is also a mini boss to clear in each of these levels. You’ll find a terminal which has three perks to choose from. As you can only pick up one of the three, make sure you read what the perks do (this could prove slightly difficult if you’re being attacked left, right and centre - I died a few times while checking the perks!). Anyway, each perk you manage to pick up, you’ll carry with you to the next level, and so on and so forth until you die. The third level is slightly bigger, and you’ll have to face off three waves of enemies while the teleporter recharges before you can use it.
I really like the fact that is that there is a day/night cycle. During the day, you’ll face a set number of enemies, and at night, spooky new aliens will come out in mass to kill you. It will probably take you around 4 to 7 minutes per level to clear them. Personally, I only managed to clear 6 levels (2 locations) in my playthrough and died an awful lot!.
Great pixel artwork and the game runs extremely well; the soundtrack is really good, too. The game is currently available in three languages (English, Russian and Chinese) and has all the generic settings such as audio, gameplay and video available to change if needs be. You’ll be frustrated more than once, even if you decide to colour Ethan’s hair green (easier level of difficulty). You’ll be cursing quite a bit!
Positives:
~~~~~~~
+ Great pixel artwork
+ Super fun and extremely addictive game
+ Stacks of weapons
+ Day/night circle
+ Well balanced gameplay
+ Achievements
Negatives:
~~~~~~~~
- No trading cards
- Can be frustrating at times
Looking for a fun, addictive and extremely challenging game? Don’t look further, Space Robinson is your game!
