This should be everyone's first Sonic game.
It is filled with so many important locations and set pieces from across the series, perfectly designed levels full of satisfying gameplay and replayability, a ton of unlockables through red rings and challenges for even more replayability, and a pretty good modding scene for more replayability on top of that!
The story is also extremely out of the way, which is another factor making this good for newcomers.
I highly recommend this game over all others to anyone wanting to get into Sonic.

Literally the only sonic game you need to play. Sonic generations saved my family from being killed by Sonic 4. If Sonic generations was a person, I would get freaky. Everything about this game is proof that humanity is worth keeping around. I would DIE for sonic generations.

This game is my childhood despite me not playing it until i was 12. Watching Cobanermani's playthroughs, playing the 3DS version in envy of those with the consoles to play the "real" version. And finally getting my grandfather's ♥♥♥♥♥♥ hand me down laptop and playing the game at 25 fps.
Now I've played through this, the 3DS version, the remaster, and Shadow Generations. This game means the world to me.
