From the top of Megacity S1-9, the Sovereign Khan rules with fists of iron and flesh. Beneath the city’s rotting foundations, a vengeful warrior embarks on a journey to murder him. 4 years prior to the events of Slave Zero, Slave Zero X brings new life to a world where horrific, living machines known as Slaves are primed to become the latest tools of war in humanity’s long and bloody history. A secret band of warriors known as The Guardians hope to stop these biomecha from being unleashed upon the world, but one swordsman among their ranks has a different idea: use the enemy’s own weapon against them. By merging with a stolen Slave Unit Prototype, Shou will become a furious Devil in pursuit of killing a false God.
- KILLER COMBOS: Use swift swordplay, explosive ordinance, and stylish combos against an army of meat and metal.
- DEATH FROM ABOVE: Air juggling, dashes, and frequent target switching allow for you to take down foes of any size while wall-jumping and platforming can help you outmaneuver your enemies.
- FIGHT FOR YOUR LIFE: Conquer mini-bosses, set pieces, and climactic 1-on-1 encounters that offer intense challenges against unforgettable villains.
- STRENGTH IS NOTHING WITHOUT CONTROL: Use the Training Room to hone precise and powerful moves to string together devastating attack sequences.
- BATTLE TO THE BEAT: A 90s-inspired soundtrack features heavy Drum’n’Bass and funky industrial music that adds to the thrill of combat.
- FEAST YOUR EYES: A unique visual aesthetic combines nostalgic 2D sprites with an advanced lighting system and stylized 3D environments.

When you press the taunt button, your character points his sword and it not only does damage, but it wall-bounces an enemy you are juggling. If you understand this sentence, you will almost certainly like this game because it's full of sicko tech similar to this.

I feel like it's early the 2000's playing a ps1 beat'em up.

This game is one update away from being a masterpiece, but as is it's like someone threw a bunch of awesome gameplay ideas together without actually understanding the games they come from. Chapter 5 is a masochistic hellscape that plays to the game's weaknesses instead of its strengths.
Still worth it for the soundtrack alone though, and I would reccomend it if you enjoy games that put you in genuinely unfair situations.
Pre Chapter 5 review below:
My Combos is sloppy and my ranks are shit but looping Devil Trigger and Goldburst lets me unga bunga and facetank my way to glory.
Game is far more lenient than some of the reviews state; Take advantage of your range against fodder, engage with stinger and followup against resilient enemies, and FOCUS ON STAYING BEHIND MINIBOSSSES
Don't forget you can hold left trigger to sprint.

Story is gripping from the get go for me. I made it up to beating Trump so far and its been really fun. I gotta stop buying customization and start getting upgrades though.

As a fighting game die hard and fan of character action games, I'm genuinely enjoying what I've played so far. The action is fluid, the combo system has depth and encourages experimentation, and the art direction is fantastic. Admittedly I don't think Slave Zero X is going to be for those who want a laid back experience or button mashers. However, those who love challenging fights, learning combo routes, and refining their skills will find much to appreciate.
