Redeemer: Enhanced Edition
REDEEMER is an intense Brawler where you will punch, hack and blast your way through enemies using fists, hammers, fire arms and even the environment. It grabs the genre by the throat and drags it into 2017 in brutal style by adding a deep melee combat system and numerous unique types of kills. Redeemer is the brawler for those who love brawlers and have been waiting for a modern take on the genre! Play as Vasily, an elite operative who once worked for one of the biggest Cybernetic Weapons Manufacturers in the world. Officially working in security, you were tasked with infiltration, assassination, extortion and even torture. When eventually the corporation decided to turn you into one of its cyborg soldiers, you manage to narrowly escape to a secluded monastery deep in the snowy mountains. For 20 years you tried to find peace and harmony amongst your fellow monks, but you are still too haunted by your murderous past to find either.

Remember that time you watched your cat gracefully knock everything off your desk? That's exactly how Redeemer's combat system feels – deliberate, fluid, and somehow deeply satisfying. The melee combat flows like honey off a brass knuckle, letting you chain together combos smoother than a con artist's pickup lines. And just like your grandmother taught you about waste-not-want-not, everything in the environment can be weaponized. That office stapler? It's now a tool of justice. That potted plant? A botanical beatdown waiting to happen.
The graphics might not make your GPU sweat bullets, but like a well-worn leather jacket, they've got style where it counts. Each environment tells its own story, from warehouses that look shadier than a forest of old-growth pines to industrial zones that make Soviet-era factories look like luxury condos.
The story follows our protagonist Vasily on his journey from "murder is my middle name" to "maybe meditation isn't so bad after all." It's like watching a grizzly bear discover yoga – surprisingly compelling and oddly inspiring.
Unfortunately, like your uncle's fishing stories, the combat can get a bit repetitive. After a few hours, you'll have seen most of what the game has to offer, and like a one-hit wonder at a karaoke night, it starts to lose its charm. The enemy AI has all the sophistication of a moth attacking a lamp – they'll come at you with enthusiasm but not much strategy.
The camera occasionally behaves like a drunk photographer at a wedding, getting stuck in awkward positions and missing key moments. And the upgrade system? It's about as deep as a kiddie pool in a drought.
The game is like that local burger joint that does one thing really well – it might not have the most extensive menu, but what it serves up is mighty satisfying. The co-op mode adds a buddy-cop movie vibe to the whole affair, letting you and a friend dispense justice like a two-person karma delivery service.
In one sentance, Redeemer is for those times when you want to contemplate the nature of redemption while body-slamming bad guys through tables.

Gloriously good, solid controls. there was a lot of effort to make this concept work. the zoom in 3d kills and then back to nicely rendered top down view. the ragdoll physics are just right. you are a bad ass.
If you know of other games like this let me know. yes I have Hatred.

Simple, mindless fun. You're a retired military turned to a life as a monk, but some people do stuff to upset you and things turn gory very quickly. Played through this on a single Sunday and managed to unlock all achievements in less than 8 hours. A pleasant experience.

Pros:
Combat System:
One of Redeemer’s biggest strengths is its fluid and brutal combat. Whether you’re using guns, hand-to-hand fighting, or improvised weapons from the environment, the game makes you feel like a real powerhouse. The melee combat, in particular, is satisfying, with a combo system that feels responsive and impactful. The ability to pick up and use any object nearby adds a layer of creativity to the fights.
Graphics & Art Style:
While not groundbreaking, the game's graphics are solid and serve its atmosphere well. The environments are varied, from industrial areas to dark, shadowy warehouses, each with a unique look and feel. The art direction effectively sets the tone for the story.
Story:
While not overly complex, the story does a great job of keeping you invested. You feel Vasily's internal struggle, and his journey from a cold-blooded killer to someone seeking redemption is engaging. The game’s narrative works well to tie the intense action together.
Co-op Mode:
If you’ve got a friend to play with, the co-op mode is a lot of fun. The game is designed with multiplayer in mind, and working together to take down enemies feels rewarding. It’s a nice way to break up the tension of the solo campaign.
Replayability:
With multiple difficulty levels and the ability to upgrade your skills and gear, there’s enough replay value here for players who enjoy a challenge. You can also experiment with different playstyles, from going full brawler to incorporating more stealth elements.
Cons:
Repetitive Gameplay:
While the combat is satisfying at first, it can become repetitive over time. The game’s levels are fairly linear, and enemies often follow predictable patterns. After a few hours, the combat mechanics start to feel a bit too familiar, and the excitement can wane.
Weak AI:
The enemy AI isn’t particularly impressive. While they can be numerous, their behavior is predictable, which makes encounters less challenging after the initial few levels. Some enemies seem to mindlessly rush towards you, offering little in terms of strategy.
Camera Issues:
Occasionally, the camera angles can be problematic, especially in tight areas. This can make it difficult to spot enemies or avoid traps. It’s a minor issue, but it does detract from the overall experience at times.
Lack of Depth in Upgrades:
The upgrade system could have been more robust. While you can upgrade Vasily’s abilities and weapons, the options feel a bit limited. There isn’t a huge variety of upgrades to choose from, and they don't drastically change gameplay.
Redeemer is a solid action game that offers a satisfying combat experience with a simple but effective story. It’s great for those who enjoy visceral, brutal gameplay and want a game they can jump into for a few hours. However, if you’re looking for deep strategy or an exceptionally complex narrative, this might not be for you. The repetitive nature of the gameplay and the somewhat basic AI are the main drawbacks, but if you’re in it for the pure action, Redeemer does a great job of delivering. Worth trying if you’re into brawlers or action games with a touch of story!
