Neon Abyss
Combining furious run ‘n’ gun action and deep, roguelike mechanics, Neon Abyss pits you as a member of ‘Grim Squad’ – a task force set-up by Hades himself to infiltrate the Abyss and defeat the New Gods. Death is not the end as every time you die, you’ll find yourself more empowered than before. As you progress through each dungeon, random item drops will be key in helping you infiltrate the Abyss and these passive effects can stack between every item. With no limit to how many can apply; a wide variety of combinations will make each run unique. With each run, you will be able to unlock new rooms, items, bosses, special rules and even new endings! This means each dungeon is unique and expandable, being tailored to your own specific playstyle. Hatch and Evolve Pets If you need some company on your journey into the depths of the abyss, or just some additional firepower or assistance, eggs can be found which will turn into a random pet that has a special ability and will evolve the longer you survive. Mini-Games Take a short break from slaying minions and take part in random mini-games that will also bag you some loot! Jump into Piano Performances, Meditation Challenge, Dance Competitions, and more – staying alive just got a lot more interesting!

Neon Abyss is a unique and slightly awkwardly positioned Roguelike indie game. You can see the imitation and blend of many famous Roguelike gameplay but also will experience a rather strange sense of déjà vu in the game.
The game has a fun and sophisticated pixel art style, different props and weapons, a variety of game mechanics and level design, and a novel pet system. Neon Abyss certainly has its characteristics and allows players to experience a different Roguelike game experience. The game allows players to make highly customizable choices for their routes, allowing players with different playing styles to flexibly choose their strategies.
But this work is not satisfactory. Whether it's the lack of introduction to the game's mechanics and equipment, the repetitive and long-playing game design, or the unbalanced and overly dependent on luck prop design, these really easy to stimulate the player's sense of boredom and displeasure. For players using the handle, the game using the right stick aiming and shooting operation may take a long time to adapt, and the production team focused on the free Neon Abyss: Infinite mobile version of the decision is also quite unfavorable to the PC players to get a good gaming experience. In addition to weapons, props, and modes, even the mobile version has been added to the multiplayer online play mode. Players who paid for the PC version seem to be treated like outcasts - at least for now.
I only recommend Neon Abyss to those who have not played too many Roguelike games. Most of the players with more exposure to Roguelike games have strong opinions about this game, and the game itself is not overly innovative in terms of gameplay. Given that the game's mobile version is free, has more fully updated content, and has a multiplayer mode, I really can't think of any advantages of the PC version at the moment.

Neon Abyss is a roguelite type of game, a bullet-hell action shooter with weird and questionable controls and solid boss battles. With an impressive arsenal of weapons and upgrades expect many hours of ,,dungeoneering''( Get keys, unlock doors and explore rooms filled with monsters and a boss to defeat at the end to progress) .
In terms of graphics the world looks decent with a retro style vibe, the 2d dungeons look amazing and if you like pixel art there is enough to satisfy.
There is a huge gap between easy and higher difficulties ,it becomes annoying when you die so many times but that's how this kind of games work.
If you played Dead Cells on android or pc expect a similar experience. Unfortunately the game doesn't create his own identity , but there is enough positives and originality to keep this a relevant title in his genre.
The fast action comes with good soundtrack, decent amount of enemies and well designed boss battles, however the repetitive room exploring can become a nuissance in time.
The idea to add minigames like piano and meditation challenges or dancing was great. I really liked the pet system and the retro looks but with a modern touch in aesthetics.
In a nutshell, Neon Abyss is a nice alternative to play in a market flooded with roguelites . In my opinion it's not the best in the genre but it's a nice option to consider.
Pros:
- Boss battles ( really fun and well designed)
- Nice soundtrack
- minigames (it's fun to take a break sometimes from killing monsters and do something else)
- pets
Cons:
-Repetitive
My review score:
Story - 4
Gameplay- 8
Graphics- 8
Sound - 9
Overall - 7.25

Recent "mixed" reviews...? Mixed? MIXED?! I absolutely LOVE this game. Just the right amount of challenge but not overly complicated, at the same time. I will say there are some really broken builds. I don't recall the items I got on my run, but I breezed through the first manager level and beat the final boss first try. However, this isn't the case most runs and finding these builds is completely random. Overall, it has a nice challenge.
The #1 reason to buy this game, though. It's FUN. Great setting, artwork, and the music is phenomenal. Tons of features to unlock, as well. Great replay value. Highly recommended.

fluid gameplay. a lot of the game is setup much like Dungreed. only there's more focus on guns instead of melee.
for this review i'm going to mostly cover some of the negative reviews since this has a recent "mixed" rating, and i don't feel it deserves it at all.
the review that stood out to me the most, was someone complaining about the difficulty at end-game.
the issue being that after so much progression, a lot of the items become benign or even a hindrance to game-play.
first, you can remove any items from the pool, the user did acknowledge this, but said they didn't want to.
the user is explicitly complaining about the game having too much content, and that content progressively "can" make the game difficult if you don't toggle off any items.
i myself, am very fond of this setup. i don't need a laser-gun every time i start the dungeon. in fact the starting gun is rather suitable for game-play, so i don't even really see the issue.
the biggest issue with said review, is that they aren't trying to change game-play for themselves. they actually can change the game-play for themselves. they just don't want to and are using their reviews in attempt to remove game-play from everyone else.

1 valid gripe, is lack of viewing item descriptions by default, instead showing you the description "after" you pick the item up.
good news is that there is an item that allows you to see item descriptions, and there is a character that can view descriptions as his ability.
thankfully, there is a really well organized list of items and weapons on a community guide.
but it was a seriously poor decision to lock the mechanic behind a certain character or item.
RNG-
this game does have a good amount of RNG mechanics. some users list this as a negative, but it's a huge positive for me. it's just plain fun, and very rarely does something happen that breaks your run.
you can open a treasure chest, it might pop out a coin or few. it may pop out some grenades or keys.
it might pop out another chest of the same or different type. and that chest could also carry another chest.
every chest is a dopamine blast because of how varied the contents are.
some doors are a slot machine that you pay a small coin amount to spin. your chances get better with each attempt, but there's also a chance that the machine blows up leaving you unable to enter that room.
(note these are optional rooms, not the main pathing)
the RNG in this game, to me, is part of the charm. some runs are harder than others because of it and i love it for that. again, the RNG very rarely breaks a run, and it's not really broke. some items are just difficult to use. like having a mine drop every time you jump. it's useful, but it limits your mobility as you will get hurt if you land where a mine just dropped.
i'm imagining 100+ hours into this game and i haven't picked up any of the dlc yet.
edit again: the only reason my playtime has paused is because i'm pretty hard into an MMORPG atm. i still envisioning over 100 hours aiming for the achievement that i'm after.
i still don't have the DLC, but i will be purchasing it in the future.
