Mannequin Character Generator
Mannequin is a 2D character portrait generator which is designed for video game developers (especially visual novels and JRPGs) and VTubers! With it, you can create full-body character portraits with various poses, clothing styles, hairstyles and expressions. VTuber models with face tracking are also available as an export option via Inochi2D, an open source standard developed as an alternative to Live2D.
Mannequin is fine-tuned with ease of use as its focus. If you’re an artist or have an artist in your team, you will find Mannequin’s simple interface useful for quick prototyping. If you’re not an artist, then you’ll find that its high-quality output can match a lot of other games’ art, so you can confidently use it for production.
You are free to use any of your exported character files in your personal and commercial projects.

Steam Workshop will be what really makes or breaks this. I know a number of people interested in software like this, so if it pulls off workshop support I think it will do well. Right now it's perfectly usable and shows promise.
I think if I had any suggestions for it at the point it currently is, after the upcoming features mentioned in the first news post I'd like to see background settings flushed out a little bit, with maybe some basic filter options including blur, but those probably aren't important to someone who is exporting their images for a game. Really though, I hope the developers are pouring time into the workshop aspect, because I feel that will end up being one of the key features.

2 years ago I bought this software through the itch.io platform. There are several important points to note whether you have to buy this product or wait until the final version is released.
Pros:
1. This application can help you generate characters with various different attributes. Such as, hair, clothes, pants, facial expressions and shapes, body types and others.
2. This application supports exporting on various formats such as PNG, SVG, or PSD.
3. If you can draw you can create your own character template.
4. Multi platform (Support Linux, Windows and Mac)
5. Affordable price
6. Yes you can make your own wifu now
Cons:
1. Application is still in Alpha stage
2. Sometimes I can't close the application (I'm using linux ubuntu)
3. Application development is very slow. This is understandable since this is a one-person project.
4. Character templates and body types are still limited.
5. Lack of documentation
However, this application should be appreciated. I hope that with many people buying this software, the development process can be completed more quickly

After using this app for 123 hours (!!!), I suppose it's about time I left a review!
I grabbed Mannequin during Early Access in January 2021, when I began working on my first visual novel. I used it a lot over the next several months, making a dozen characters with multiple outfits, poses and expressions. As someone with no real art skills, it was an absolute godsend and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone wanting to follow in my footsteps. The characters have a unique, recognisable look while also remaining true to the anime/visual novel style I was looking for.
Mannequin is easy and intuitive to use and gives you a lot of leeway in fine-tuning a character's expression. Between face shape, different types of eyes, noses and mouths, and even little details like pupils or lips, you can really make characters look unique, and imbue them with a lot of personality. And, following a recent update, there are now dozens of types of hairstyles, which can be mixed and matched and recoloured for a HUGE amount of variety. And more hairstyles and accessories are being added all the time.
My main criticism of Mannequin during my months of VN production was how slowly it loaded. Every minor change to a character led to a lengthy load time, and it meant that making a brand new set of sprites would take me a lot longer than it needed to. HOWEVER, as of June 2021, that issue has been entirely fixed, and the app's performance is now super-fast and near-flawless.
While this app is still in Early Access, I feel it now has most of the functionality I would want from a complete product. Cropping and exporting sprites is simple and fast, although there is a rare bug that leads to a soft-lock (requiring a full restart of the app) while exporting sometimes that I hope is fixed in the future.
So what does the app need now? Just more content. At present, there is only a single female body type, and a single male body type. The female body has multiple chest sizes and several different poses, but the male body has very little customisation. More body types, more poses, and (most importantly) more clothing are needed. So far, it's easy to make school uniforms, with lots of different shirts and trousers and skirts, plus casualwear like hoodies, jeans and sweaters. But we need underwear, we need lingerie, we need swimwear, we need dresses, we need maid outfits, we need more accessories, we need fantasy armour, we just need lots and lots of content that will allow us to make the scenes we want to make in our VNs. Community support, which is a planned feature, may help with that, but I'd love to see continued official content drops in the future.
So in conclusion: if you're looking to make your own visual novel, or just OC characters in general, Mannequin is easy to use and has a lot of great features and content. It definitely needs MORE content before it leaves Early Access, and a few bugs need fixing, but the developers update frequently and are quick to respond to comments on the Community Hub, so I have a lot of faith in them to deliver.
(Shameless plug: you can check out my finished game, After School Murder Club!!, for free by searching for it in the Steam store, to see Mannequin's characters out in the wild.)

Good system, but it need more body types templates, summer wear like bikinis or swimsuits, more men wears, fantasy clothes... or a easy way to create our own templates to import it in the software...

I am pleased, as a RPG Maker user, I have always wanted to have full characters to help give the narrative, My skills aren't that good, and now having this tool available will make it easier for anyone who wants to get into indie development, whether it be RPG Maker or VN Maker.
This software allows you to create a varied amount of characters right out the box, with different poses and other features, allows you to really get into your characters looks and feels, the export to PNG (other formats are available) allows for easy import into any other software.
I look forward to see how this progresses, There is obviously room for improvement and there are still some missing features (like age lines for older characters) but anything else can possibly be a future DLC pack?
For Early Access software it is pretty decent, and I have to say with my 1 hour of use so far, I have already made 4 characters. Its so easy to use.

Honestly, this is one of the best programs for game developers who lack artistic skills. However, I do wish that there were more sci-fi and fantasy content available. Overall, it's a great program.

I've been playing with this app for awhile, and I have to say, I am absolutely blown away. As of my writing this, Mannequin is still in early-access, but even in it's current state, the quality and complexity of the character designs you can create is amazing.
There are a multitude of body poses to choose from, as well as various styles of facial features (lips, eyes, eyebrows, noses, ears.) Even better, there exists the ability to fine-tune expressions and facial feature positions to your liking (within limits.) It's even possible to change the direction the character is looking in.
Additionally, there's no forced color palette. There are some generally normal preset colors to choose from, or you can use literally any color you want for skin, hair, lips, eyes, clothing, as well as the highlights and shading for each of those items.
The developer has clearly put an INSANE amount of time, effort and (most importantly) thought into this program, and it shows with every update. Even as a work-in-progress, this is a great app if you want/need to make character designs, whether it's for an existing project, or just to prototype.
10/10 - This program is already amazing, and I can't wait to see where it goes from here.
