Love Sucks is an adult Visual Novel, in which monster-kind has secretly integrated with humanity. Two monster girls, a vampire and a succubus have chosen you to be their date this Halloween! But their motives go beyond just showing you a good time… With the involvement of magical artifacts, monster police, big boobs and a sweet rump, can you survive long enough to save not only yourself, but the monsters too?
Or maybe you’ll just let it happen over, and over, because, screw it, the succ is good and there’s worse ways to go!
This is Love Sucks: Night One, the first part of three in your mission to get laid and not die doing it.
This is our first ever game. We hope you like it! ❤

Love Sucks is my first delve into the world of NSFW visual novels but it was a decent one. The story itself was less cringe that I imagined it would be and even a little more dense, writing wise everything made sense and whilst maybe a bit on the nose at points was at least entertaining. I would love to see more voice lines in the sequel but was surprised by how much, for a free game, was actually voiced. I would also like to see more decision-making that changes the game; however, the interactivity in this game was perfect for a free title and made for a great first foray into the world of visual novels!

The writing is so corny but fantastic. I love all of them so much. 100% worth giving it a go, the art is great and so is the plot (plus some of the world building is pretty neat).

As the first game made by this programmer, it's very good. The story is fine, the art is great, and it has voice acting. All that for FREE?

Love Sucks: Night One is a supernatural visual novel developed by Art Witch Studios and published by Critical Bliss that combines romance, comedy, fantasy, and mystery into a story-driven experience centered around choice and character interaction. Serving as the opening chapter of a larger episodic narrative, the game introduces players to a world where monsters live hidden among ordinary people, creating a setting that blends paranormal storytelling with dating simulation elements and lighthearted humor. Rather than focusing on mechanical complexity, it prioritizes narrative progression and relationship-building, creating an experience aimed primarily at players who enjoy character-driven adventures.
The story begins on Halloween night, immediately setting the tone for a world filled with strange encounters and supernatural possibilities. Players suddenly find themselves caught between two unusual individuals—a vampire and a succubus—whose arrival quickly transforms an ordinary evening into something far more chaotic. At first, the setup appears designed around familiar romantic visual novel concepts, but the story gradually expands into something larger as hidden motives, supernatural secrets, and dangerous complications begin revealing themselves.
The game builds its world around the idea that monsters exist alongside humanity without public awareness. Vampires, magical artifacts, paranormal organizations, and hidden supernatural conflicts create the foundation for a setting that feels larger than its opening premise initially suggests. This hidden world becomes one of the experience’s strongest features because it creates opportunities for mystery and unexpected developments beyond simple romance progression. The supernatural backdrop helps maintain interest while giving character interactions greater narrative importance.
Gameplay follows traditional visual novel design principles. Progress depends largely on reading dialogue, exploring story developments, and making choices that influence interactions and narrative outcomes. Player decisions shape conversations and determine how relationships evolve, giving the experience replay value through branching story paths and alternative scenes. The structure encourages multiple playthroughs for players interested in uncovering additional content or exploring different outcomes.
Character writing serves as one of the game's biggest strengths. The central cast brings energy and personality that help maintain momentum throughout the experience. The vampire and succubus characters function as more than straightforward romantic options. Their individual personalities, motivations, and interactions help shape both comedic moments and larger narrative developments. Conversations often feel playful and lively, helping establish a tone that balances supernatural mystery with humor and charm.
Comedy remains an important element throughout the story. Love Sucks: Night One rarely becomes overly serious for extended periods. Humorous dialogue and self-aware writing create an entertaining atmosphere that prevents supernatural elements from feeling excessively dramatic. The game embraces absurdity when appropriate, allowing its paranormal world to feel fun rather than overwhelmingly dark. This balance helps maintain pacing while making emotional moments stand out more effectively.
Visually, the game succeeds through expressive artwork and colorful presentation. Character illustrations immediately draw attention and give the cast distinct identities. The art style complements both lighter comedic scenes and moments involving mystery or tension. Visual novels depend heavily on presentation to strengthen emotional investment, and Art Witch Studios delivers character designs that help conversations feel engaging throughout the experience.
The supernatural setting also contributes significantly to long-term appeal. Hidden monster societies, magical influences, and larger mysteries unfolding beneath the surface create intrigue beyond romance itself. Players interested in paranormal fiction will likely appreciate how the story gradually expands its scope without abandoning the personal relationships driving much of the narrative. The opening chapter structure naturally leaves questions unanswered, encouraging investment in future developments.
Because Love Sucks: Night One serves as the beginning of a larger story, some players may reach the ending wanting greater immediate resolution. Certain plot elements exist primarily to establish groundwork for future chapters rather than delivering complete closure. Players approaching the experience as the first installment of an ongoing narrative will likely appreciate its world-building and setup more fully.
Those seeking action gameplay or deep mechanical systems may find the experience limited due to its strong emphasis on storytelling. However, players who enjoy visual novels, supernatural romance settings, branching dialogue systems, and character-focused adventures will likely find considerable enjoyment here.
Love Sucks: Night One succeeds by fully embracing its unusual blend of fantasy, romance, humor, and paranormal mystery. Art Witch Studios creates a world filled with charm, strange encounters, and memorable personalities while laying the foundation for larger stories ahead. As an opening chapter, it delivers an entertaining supernatural adventure that offers enough intrigue and personality to encourage players to continue exploring its hidden world.
