Jagged Alliance 2 – Wildfire
Even if the regime is totally inept and corrupt, don’t suppose for a moment that you as the liberator will be greeted with open arms.
JAGGED ALLIANCE 2: WILDFIRE brings you back to Arulco. The population is being terrorized by a reckless army; in the meantime the main export goods are drugs. Subversion and fraudulence has infiltrated all levels of local government and the ever-present Mafia has his fingers in many pies. You are working undercover on behalf of the US government and your goal is to destroy the mighty drug cartel. You’ll need a skilled hand to put together the right team of mercenaries and the negotiating skills of a diplomat to get the sceptical population on to your side. You’ll also need the strategic genius of a general and the fighting tactics of a guerrilla.
Should you fail, your “client” will deny all knowledge of your existence.

Gameplay
An exciting mix of strategy and role-playing that puts you in charge of a nation’s fight for freedom. Your objectives are – to hire a core group of skilled professionals through A.I.M., the Association of International Mercenaries; to win the local population over to your side by displaying courage and loyalty; to train your men around the clock and then send them into dangerous missions and lethal fire fights and to conquer the depths of underground mines, reap their riches and discover their secrets. Each success will bring you closer to total victory, while each failure must be overcome with iron determination. Sometimes a tactical withdrawal can bring you more benefits than a battle for battle’s sake. Retreat from one sector only to surprise the enemy by attacking on another flank. At the beginning, some of your enemy’s bases may seem to be impregnable – but don’t despair – you will have to become stronger step by step and slowly gain ground.

Played the original Jagged Alliance through this. I just don't get what is fun about it. It's simply an exercise in frustration: dated mechanics, a beginning of the game that is way too difficult: You have no income, no store, crap weapons and aiming mechanics that are biased against you: you can't hit an enemy at point blank range, but the enemies can hit you behind cover from much farther away.
Then the game enjoys punishing you further if you lose too many mercs by then having every merc refuse to work with you...
I don't know what this is, but for most people, fun isn't the word.
EDIT:
4 hours later I was hooked. finally got the first airfield, saw that you could buy the ammunition, the medkits, more weapons and armor... an income arrived.... then you could see battle mechanics of this civil war you are supporting... then the chopper... then better weapons can be picked up...
Then you see the love that went into this game. combat starts to become less opaque and more fun once you get how cover works. the love given to the game in terms of character commentary. And then this feeling that you are organizing a full campaign to overthrow the government.
Eventually, I was up until 4am finishing off a level. Now I can't wait to see what the rest of the story has in store.
This game is considered a classic and it is. One of a kind. But you need to get used to its mechanics first to enjoy it, and also accept that you will need to save and reload often as it is extremely unforgiving.

If you like 80s/90s action films and enjoy turn based games. This is the best.

As far as I'm concerned, having played all the XCOM games, and the original Jagged Alliance, and a few other turn based games, this one is excellent. I love all the extra guns, the big fire fights, the extra money you can use and the increased amount of mercenaries you can hire and have on the ground. I played the "classic" version for a mission, and found it to be boring, bland, and just sad overall. So, treat yourself to a hectic and rollicking old time and challenge yourself, well, start at Novice, for sure, and let the lead go flying!!!

Excellent , but keep save often ! Frequents bugs : 1 - Freeze while opponent turn . 2 - Reverse moon walk (all your character walk in reverse mode, and you can not explore the map. 3 - Invisible ennemy (last even if you save, you can only "heard" ennemy , but still same thing for speaking npc (non interactive npc are still visible) if you are stuck like this, make explose a door or a wall... and prepare for a fought fight because all ennemy will be surrounded you. (I use 12 mercs highly armed to beat this moment)
