One day you discover the other side of your partner you had never known. What is the truth beneath the masks? Each of them has secrets. The mask of “Big Sis” and “Luccretia Girl” she wears. The mask of “Lil Bro” and “City Guard” he wears.

The first game in the Eroolia series "How to Take Off Your Mask" is a sweet, romantic comedy about Lilia (name changeable) and her best friend, Ronan.
This is the Remastered version of the original game. Though I can't comment on the improvements since I haven't played the original game, I know that the developer spent 3 years to remaster the three games in the Eroolia series and made substantial improvements to the original game.
This game is simple and lighthearted, but enjoyable, nonetheless. The sprites and CGs are beautifully drawn and captivating. There is also a nice opening theme song sung by Kuyuri (which you can purchase as a DLC on Steam), as well as good background music.
Personally, I like the second and third game in the series - "How to Fool a Liar King" and "How to Sing to Open Your Heart" - better as I feel there is more depth in those stories. But, I would strongly recommend that you play this before the other two games in the series as the worldbuilding starts from the first game. Eroolia is a rich fantasy world and the first game serves as a great introduction into the world of Eroolia.

How to Take Off Your Mask Remastered is, as the name states, a remastered version of the original visual novel, How to Take Off Your Mask, developed and published by ROSEVERTE. For those who aren't familiar with the original story (or the series, in general), you take on the role of Lilia, a seemingly ordinary teenage girl who works with her grandmother at the family bakery in the human town of Leezera, the capital of Eroolia. One day, after waking up, Lilia discovers that her body has changed. She's smaller and now has cat ears and a tail as well as a different speech pattern. It turns out that she's a luccretia, a half-human and half-cat being. However, this ends up being a problem, as some humans are prejudiced against luccretias. There's even a movement to expel all luccretias from Leezera. Along with that, Lilia's childhood friend, Ronan, is hiding something from Lilia, although Lilia is hiding her discovery about being a luccretia from Ronan. I'll end my story synopsis here to avoid spoilers and all that.
As for the gameplay, it's the same as in the original. You have choices presented. While some of the choices determine if you'll go on the human (Lilia's) path or the luccretia (Leea's - Lilia's luccretia counterpart) path, other choices determine whether Lilia's affection for Ronan increases. There are several CGs presented, which are improvements over the original, and the sprites now have eye and mouth movements. Also, there are the usual Steam achievements although they won't count towards a user's global total until the game is out of "Steam is learning about this game."
Now that I've gone over the story and gameplay, I'll move onto my critique. I remember playing the original version a few years back and enjoyed it a lot. Of course, I was curious to find out the changes between this remastered version and the original. Thus, I'll get over the usual points I make when it comes to reviewing games here on Steam. First, the story is the same as in the original, so there are no changes. It retains its humor and light-heartedness. I especially enjoyed witnessing the relationship between Lilia and Ronan change, as they discover that there's more to the other than the "big sister" and "little brother" masks, respectfully. The other cast members only make the story that much more enjoyable, and I liked seeing the interactions happen among them. There's full-on Japanese voice acting, which helps to convey the moods of the characters. The story itself does have its serious moments, mainly in regards to the conflict regarding luccretias, but overall, it's a light-hearted story. As for the writing, nothing has changed (as far as I can tell). The pacing is well-done, and although the story is mostly narrated from Lilia's point of view, there are moments when Ronan's point of view is narrated.
In regards to the art, this is where there are changes between the remastered and original versions. The remastered version has improved CGs, where the bodily proportions look more realistic. They're really beautiful and capture the story's highlights. Also, the sprites now have eye and mouth movements, as I mentioned earlier. They give off a more realistic feel to the sprites, making them more alive. As for the soundtrack, the tracks are the same as in the original, so there are no differences. However, they're still great to listen to, and I especially enjoyed the more light-hearted tracks.
Overall, would I recommend How to Take Off Your Mask Remastered? I'd say that if you haven't played any of the games in the Eroolia series but you want to get started, then yes, I'd totally get this remastered version. There will be remastered versions of the sequels in the series as well, so I'm looking forward to them. Also, if you played the original and are curious to see the improved art, again, I'd recommend getting this game. Now, if you played the original and art isn't a factor, then I'd say to hold off for a sale. However, this game is in a couple of Steam bundles, so you can save quite a bit if you already have the other games in them. At any rate, I highly enjoyed this remastered version and am excited for the remastered sequels. ^^

while is have not played the remaster version much yet, but i have played the original
And i do love all the big and small changes and recommend everyone to buy this one as well.
controls are easy, there is full controller support, mouse and keyboard work too.
not only that, but when i tried the game the first time there was a problem (something called a coil whine) and they fixed it very fast, so a big thank you to the devs.
and a big thumbs up for this game

This is a cute game, mildly entertaining and the first game in a series of 3, I believe.
It's not a bad game and I enjoyed the first playthrough. Though the 100% is a bit of a slog after that since it's the same story all over again with very little changes in writing.
The art style is okay, the music is okay, and while the series has an overarching story that is pretty good, the first game is slow in kicking it off.
The characters are quirky and lovable, but young, naive and full of troupes.
Price is a bit steep (14,79 euros as of writing this), however I got it on sale so I feel I got my moneys worth that way, so get it on sale.

Remastered 1st game of Story of Eroolia trilogy. Cute protagonist girl, fascinating boys to have romance, branched storyline, voice-over. User-friendly interface.
