Reminds me of those old games like MechaQuest and DragonFable.
Very fun and easy game.

This is such a fun strategy/turn based game! I have a couple of the Potatoes game, but this is the only one I've finished. The story was quite emotional too.

Writing a review because I did not see the grind these folks are complaining about, finished in half a day. Just skip the grind. It really is just skill issue when the first missile (Apollo) and Purifier literally brought me to the end with flawless victories while constantly being under leveled.

Holy Potatoes! We’re in Space?! is a lighthearted and whimsical space exploration game developed by Daylight Studios and published by Daedalic Entertainment that blends strategy, resource management, and turn-based combat with a quirky sense of humor. The game thrusts players into a vibrant universe inhabited by anthropomorphic vegetable characters, inviting them to embark on a mission to rescue the protagonist sisters’ grandfather, Jiji, who has mysteriously disappeared. From the outset, the game’s charm lies in its unique premise—combining the absurdity of potato-based space travelers with a colorful and pun-filled narrative that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
At its core, the gameplay revolves around building and managing a spaceship crew, exploring a procedurally generated galaxy, and engaging in tactical battles against hostile forces. Players must recruit and assign crew members with various skills, craft an assortment of inventive weapons and gadgets, and navigate different planets as they search for clues about Jiji’s whereabouts. The crafting system is particularly notable for its creativity, featuring weapons that range from practical sci-fi staples to absurdly amusing items, such as using kittens as projectiles. This blend of humor and strategy requires players to think tactically about crew roles, ship upgrades, and weapon loadouts, making battles both challenging and entertaining.
Visually, the game embraces a bright, cartoonish style that perfectly complements its playful tone. The top-down perspective allows players to see detailed interiors of their spaceship and the various planets they visit, each rendered with a colorful, exaggerated aesthetic. Character designs are charmingly simple yet expressive, reinforcing the game’s whimsical world. The soundtrack adds another layer of engagement, with a substantial collection of tracks that enhance the experience without overwhelming the player. The audio and visual presentation work hand in hand to create an inviting atmosphere that feels light and accessible, appealing to both younger audiences and adults looking for a casual, fun experience.
Despite these strengths, Holy Potatoes! We’re in Space?! has received a mixed reception, with some players and critics noting that the game’s repetitive elements and relatively shallow gameplay can detract from long-term enjoyment. While the initial exploration and combat are engaging, the procedural nature of the galaxy and limited variation in enemy encounters can make the experience feel somewhat repetitive after several hours. Additionally, the difficulty curve sometimes swings unevenly, with early battles offering a solid challenge but later stages becoming easier once certain upgrades are unlocked. This pacing issue can diminish the sense of progression and reduce the incentive to experiment with different strategies or crew configurations.
The game’s narrative, while full of humor and quirky dialogue, is relatively straightforward and doesn’t delve deeply into character development or complex storytelling. Instead, it focuses on providing a lighthearted backdrop to the gameplay loop. For players who prioritize story-driven adventures, Holy Potatoes! may feel somewhat thin in this regard. However, those who appreciate the comedic style and the novelty of a universe populated by vegetable characters will find plenty to enjoy in the interactions and worldbuilding. The game’s tone and charm make it a good fit for casual gamers or fans of niche, offbeat indie titles.
In summary, Holy Potatoes! We’re in Space?! is a delightful and humorous space adventure that successfully combines tactical combat, resource management, and crafting within a colorful and whimsical setting. It stands out due to its creative weapon designs, quirky characters, and approachable gameplay. However, its repetitiveness and uneven difficulty pacing might limit its appeal for players seeking a deep or highly varied experience. Priced affordably and supported by a lively art style and soundtrack, it serves as a fun, accessible title for those looking to explore a light sci-fi world with a healthy dose of humor. It may not become a classic in the genre, but it certainly offers a charming escape for players willing to embrace its unique potato-themed universe.
