A fun, historical dress up game for all ages. ^^
Introduction
Historical Fashion Dress Up is a cozy, relaxing fashion game in which you can customize characters with historical clothing pieces ranging from the 1680's to the 1820's. You can choose from either male or female characters and customize their facial features and hair, both with styles and colors, and then dress them up with clothing items from certain historical periods. Accessories can be added as well as pets. After you finish customizing that character, you can choose from several backgrounds depicting the same time period and then either take screenshots or print/download paper dolls of them. Also, if you're dissatisfied with your character creation, there's the option to delete that creation and start over. In addition, you can save creations that you like to a wardrobe. Steam achievements are available, but they won't count towards a user's global total until the game is out of "profile features limited".
Review
I've had this game in my backlog for quite a long while, and despite having received a review key for it, I wasn't able to launch the game initially, so I had technical issues. However, feeling in the mood to play a short, cozy game, I decided to go back to this game, and thankfully, the technical problems I had have since been resolved.
The gameplay is the main mechanic since there is no story. I like how you can choose from among three historical periods (1680's, 1780's, 1820's) and decide whether to have a male or female character. Suffice it to say that it's a very relaxing game, and I had fun experimenting with different clothing pieces and colors. Even with characters, you can choose different skin tones although you're stuck with one body type for each gender from the different historical periods. Still, you can choose different eye shapes, noses, and even have facial features. Also, I like how you can add pets to the characters even though they can't be petted, unfortunately. I didn't encounter any technical issues, and I was able to obtain all Steam achievements fairly easily. The only one that might take a bit of grinding is the one for spending 2 hours making outfits. However, it definitely doesn't take long to get that one. XD I should point out as well that the game can only be played in full screen mode. I would have liked a windowed mode option since I tend to prefer to play games in it, but perhaps a future update might include it.
Also, just like to mention that I liked reading up about the different historical time periods and learning about clothing styles and whatnot. It was very educational. ^^
As for the art, I like the style, and the clothing pieces especially stand out. There's a wide variety of colors, too, and as for backgrounds, they're quite beautiful to look at (although they can't be customized). I admit that I'm personally more of a fan of women's fashion, especially from the 1820's. (I guess I have a liking towards Jane Austen's works. lol) Still, they're all lovely.
In regards to the music, there's only one track, which isn't representative of any time period. It's more light-hearted and just fun to tap to the beat as you're customizing your characters and whatnot. You can choose to turn off the music if you wish, but you can't adjust the music volume in-game.
Conclusion
Would I recommend Historical Fashion Dress Up? If you're looking for a short, cozy game, you especially like dress up games, and/or you enjoy getting all those Steam achievements, then this game might be up your alley. For the asking price, it might depend on how much gameplay time you get out of it. If you're looking to get all the achievements, then it might be a bit pricey, but if you want a cozy game that is replayable, then you'll get a lot of hours out of it and the price will be worth it.
Finally, I'd like to give a major thank you to Tidvis Games for the review key. I'm happy that I finally got around to playing this, and I hope that plans for more fashion packs are still in the works. ^^

This game offers so much more than a dress up game. I love every minute of it! It's clear that the developer put in a lot of work and time to study the fashion from each era. First, I was excited to have found a historical dress up game, but then I was surprised to see paper doll and coloring page feature, even more ecstatic to have found that there is a section where you can learn about the fashion trends from the years, and with each piece of clothing and hairstyle!
Got this game with Widow's Boutique, and I love both games so, so much. And it's nice to see that Tidvis is still keeping the content coming with the updates. I will surely play any game from the developer, and I really hope more people find this game.

Wonderful dress up game! Lots of options that you can alter colours on, pretty art-style, historically accurate, both men and women, and they add new eras frequently!

Historical Fashion Dress Up lets me make old-timey women look beautiful and the men look as dumb as humanly possible. Splendid time overall.
The dress-up options are surprisingly fun to mess around with, and half the entertainment comes from seeing how historically accurate or absolutely ridiculous you can make everyone look.

This game is very cosy and highly nostalgic for someone who grew up with paperdoll/dress up game-websites, and perfect for historical fashion-lovers of all ages! The fact that the clothing, hair and accesories in the game are based on actual historical garnments found in museums and paintings etc. makes it feel very autentic and special, and its clear that the design-team have poured a lot of research and love into creating it. My only "complaint" about the game is that I wish there was more to play with, more historical eras and more clothing/accessories to choose from, but I understand that more is being added over time, so I'm exited to see!
