I held off on picking this game up because of some of the reviews complaining of lack of content. I finally got it in a sale, and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Sequoia State Park.
Now that all the (free) DLC is included, there are four paths you can take. The "main" game is with one girl, but has branching choices that cover three variations. This is probably close to half of the game. The other three girls get unlocked based upon how you play the main girl, and each can be played separately. I can understand the irritation from players when it was only the "main" game; only one girl, and at full price? I would've been a bit disappointed too.
But I can recommend this in its current state. Overall it took me 5 hours for every path (I read fairly fast so mileage may vary), including replaying some scenes to unlock the few pieces of art I was missing
Pros:
Great art
Amusing writing
Sex scenes are good and varied
Four distinct girls to ♥♥♥♥
Cons:
Sometimes the art doesn't perfectly match the writing, but there are a lot of small variations so I understand
Occasionally the text skips a line if you click through while it's also changing the scene

Hard Times at Sequoia State Park is an adult-oriented visual novel developed by Dirty Ink Games and published by TinyHat Studios that centers on character-driven storytelling, explicit romance, and personal introspection. Set against the backdrop of a national park, the game follows Chloe, a young woman beginning her first day as a park ranger while simultaneously confronting unresolved emotions, complicated relationships, and deeply personal desires. Rather than functioning as a traditional game with mechanical depth or systemic complexity, it unfolds primarily through dialogue, illustrated scenes, and branching narrative choices that shape how interactions develop.
The core structure is that of a linear visual novel with limited but meaningful decision points. Players progress by reading dialogue, selecting conversational responses, and unlocking scenes that expand on Chloe’s emotional state and her connections with other characters. The choices influence tone and outcomes within certain encounters, offering alternative perspectives or variations in how relationships evolve. However, these branching paths do not radically alter the overall story arc. Instead, they refine the experience, allowing players to explore different emotional nuances or unlock additional content through multiple playthroughs.
The game’s most defining characteristic is its mature content. Hard Times at Sequoia State Park places explicit adult themes at the forefront of its design, with numerous intimate scenes forming a significant portion of the narrative progression. These elements are presented through detailed illustrated CG artwork, which emphasizes expressive character design and physical intimacy. For its intended audience, the artwork is one of the game’s strongest assets. The character models are stylized and carefully rendered, and the visual presentation aims to enhance immersion in Chloe’s internal struggles and romantic entanglements. However, because so much emphasis is placed on these mature scenes, environmental storytelling and broader world-building remain secondary.
Despite its explicit focus, the narrative attempts to explore themes of vulnerability, identity, and emotional conflict. Chloe’s return to a familiar setting brings unresolved past relationships back into her life, creating tension that goes beyond purely physical interactions. Moments of introspection and dialogue aim to add depth to her motivations and insecurities. While the story does not strive for grand narrative complexity, it does attempt to frame its adult content within the context of personal growth and emotional reckoning. The effectiveness of this approach will vary depending on player expectations; some may appreciate the attempt at layered characterization, while others may view the narrative primarily as a vehicle for its erotic elements.
The pacing reflects the game’s relatively short runtime, typically lasting only a couple of hours for a single playthrough. This brevity makes the experience accessible and encourages replayability. Achievements and alternative scene unlocks incentivize players to revisit earlier decisions and explore different dialogue paths. Because the branching options are limited in scope, replay sessions focus more on uncovering additional content rather than discovering dramatically different storylines. For players who enjoy completionism within visual novels, this structure adds moderate longevity despite the concise campaign.
From a technical perspective, the game is straightforward and functional. The interface is typical of the genre, with dialogue boxes, scene transitions, and save/load options presented clearly. There are no complex mechanics to learn, making it easy to navigate even for newcomers to visual novels. Sound design and background music serve primarily to reinforce mood rather than dominate attention. The emphasis remains consistently on dialogue and illustrated scenes.
Community reception has generally been positive within its niche audience. Players who specifically seek adult visual novels with high-quality artwork and character-focused storytelling tend to appreciate what the game offers. However, its appeal is inherently limited to those comfortable with explicit material and primarily narrative-driven experiences. Those looking for strategic gameplay, deep interactive systems, or expansive world-building may find the experience too narrow in scope.
Ultimately, Hard Times at Sequoia State Park is a focused entry in the adult visual novel genre. It prioritizes illustrated intimacy and character emotion over mechanical innovation, delivering a brief but polished narrative experience tailored to a specific audience. While it does not attempt to broaden its appeal beyond that niche, it succeeds in providing a cohesive and visually expressive story for players interested in mature, choice-driven storytelling within a contained setting.

Amazingly good art and replayability. Game is just a straight-up visual novel with limited, choice based gameplay, but the characters are fun and the art is well worth the price. The game has three main endings based on your dialogue choices (sub, dom, switch), although my one complaint is that some of the dialogue choices aren't as clear as they could be about which route they unlock meaning you may have to save scum to get the switch ending (the dom and sub routes are clear enough). Game is all about futa content if that isn't your kink. Want to see more from this artist and group of characters, hoping for a sequel.

It's alright, not really a story, more of a someone's cliche fantasy visualised, but outside of few inconsistencies that annoyed me it's a good one
The DLC CGs look better and they callback to choices required to unlock them unlike always defaulting dialogues in the main scene
Little bit too short and not quite as visualised as it could be, still better than average vn or plain book
