Gris is a hopeful young girl lost in her own world, dealing with a painful experience in her life. Her journey through sorrow is manifested in her dress, which grants new abilities to better navigate her faded reality.

I remember first seeing GRIS when my brother talked about it. However, his explanation fell short for how much I like this game. I am not a skilled gamer, or someone who can put hours upon hours into a game, so this relatively short and 'easy' game was perfect for me. And we haven't even got to the visuals or music yet!
I love games that look good, and with this game (and their studio) every frame is a masterpiece. The music is very emotional and I listen to the soundtrack still.
It's a beautiful experience, and I highly recommend people to play it.
Something personal that I liked in the game is the lack of 'death', in that your character can never die. This put me at ease to figure out the puzzles and plot, but someone else may think their actions have no consequences. The themes however speak louder than the gameplay, in that you are playing a story, not writing it. That's how it is, you can't change it.
This is my comfort game, and it stays beautiful everytime.
My thanks to Nomada Studios.

Oh my God what a masterpiece. This is nothing short of a love letter to art and storeytelling. The theme of the plot is reflected in the game progression very subtly and carefully. The gameplay feels smooth and simple with very intentional interactions with the world that elevate the experience. The levels are incredibly unique while still being intertwined with appropriate game mechanics, which also reflect the protagonist's journey very aptly. The art style, the environmental design, music, everything is absolutely top notch. The ending hits like a truck and will make you tear up. 100%ing the game feels worthwhile with the puzzles being quite intuitive to solve, and yet some collectibles can be quite well hidden. Took about 6 hrs for the base run, and 8 hrs total for all the achievements, and it was well worth the money spent. Easiest 10/10, highly recommend it.

Incredible. The visual artstyle is unparalleled, the music - enchanting. Highly recommended.
Just as a word of warning - the game is short (good for her) and you'd benefit from playing it all in one sitting. So, if you can, dedicate a day to it.

I highly recommend Gris to anyone who appreciates art, music, and storytelling in games.

You are a small, fragile lark who loves to sing, held gently in the palm of a goddess’s hand. Every day is peaceful and filled with music until one day, that hand breaks apart, and you fall into a silent, colourless world. Everything is gray gris, the Spanish word that gives this game its name. To return to the light, you must find the strength to move forward, to rediscover the colours that once filled your world. But be careful the darkness is always close, trying to pull you back down. It’s not just any darkness, though. It’s your grief, your despair, your depression and the only way out is through it. No one can lift you up again but yourself. You save yourself through song, through courage, through colour. Gris (2018) is more than just a side scrolling platformer it’s an emotional journey. I rarely play games in this genre, but it’s easy to see why Gris became so influential. You can feel its artistic fingerprints on later titles like Noita, Monument Valley, and Planet of Lana. Gris has a stunning watercolour art style, hand-drawn animation, and emotionally charged soundtrack by Berlinist. The game doesn’t rely on words it tells its story purely through visuals, music, and atmosphere. It feels less like playing a game and more like watching a living piece of art or an interactive musical. While its gameplay is fairly simple mostly light platforming and puzzle solving it’s deliberate, meant to serve the emotion of the moment rather than challenge you mechanically. Every new colour you restore changes the world in subtle, breathtaking ways, symbolizing recovery, acceptance, and self renewal. By the time the final note plays, Gris leaves you with a quiet sense of peace. It’s short, poignant, and unforgettable a work that shows games can be deeply personal expressions of healing and art. Sorry, I think I’m on the verge of apophenia with this review.

Gris- A story of Grief and finding your True Self after loss
I cannot express in words how this journey made me feel, but i wil try my best as i cry through the credits playing with the melody of mc in the background. I started this game when i was at mixed terms in life with someone important to me, that being the one who gifted me this masterpieece, slowly i played it in my free time unknowing of the deep message of the game as i had no idea about it. As the cutscenes started playing, i saw myself in her, the young girl seemingly so lost in the barren world, void of any color or happiness. The way the colours slowly came back to her world, her surroundings, and finally in herself, it made me tear up unexpectedly, this had been something i had been struggling of since long ago, trying to piece backs parts of myself from my former self and healing what was broken. Seeing her walk alone in this journey covered in a cloak felt like she was too scared to show her broken parts and the way her statue lay naked seemed eerily symbolic and made me feel something i couldnt describe. Especially that she was alone in this journey of grief and self acceptance along with healing herself, it was almost magical to feel her story as mine. It helped me understand what i had been missing in my own journey. Healing comes from within, you cannot rely on anyone but yourself in this journey, you will find friends along the paths and learn a lot, but in the end, only you can mend what has been broken. Thank you to the one who introduced me to this game, even if we are not on speaking terms anymore. This journey has taught me a lot. <3
