This game is a very nice puzzle game that put a bit your mind to thinking (this if you want a highscore) i really like this game and to me looks pretty easy ...is also a good game for relaxing ...you know if you want a break from shootings or fights or whatever :D ...if you like puzzle games ...then you need try this game is very fun !! :3 ...enjoy !!

Gem Forge is a simple and basic match 2 puzzle game with 2 modes, a 4x4 and 8x8. They both work the same way by matching up the color and shapes with the same type for the highest possible score but the 8x8 game mode has gems that get locked and you have to use one of the same type of gem to unlock that space to keep going.

A more complicated ' 2048 ' style game,
comes in two board size, normal 16 sq and expanded 64 sq.
Nothing exceptional.
As much as I tried,
only with the help of few ingame item, was able to clear the game.
Game relies too much on rng, grind and luck.
Micro-transactions for 'extend life', much needed for few of the endgame achievements.
Music keeps returning despite set to lowest or off.
Trick is to keep focus on one edge via sideways, other than no choice, don't go across,
releasing as much simple gems, forgoing combining for better choices.
Decent but
was stressful to grind the last few achievements, especially 4x4 Royal Gem.
Spent more for purchases than the game itself.

I got this on sale, and for the price, I like this fun puzzle game; the Steam inventory items are cool and work well with the game, and the gem designs remind me of the gems from Diablo 3.

"Gem Forge" by Bogemic Games (current Steam username "redhat") is just like that, with all the addiction, but with colorful gems instead of numbers. 💎
Here's what else it has:
👍 A nice, fiery background (which is now animated via a prior update) that gives the feel of being in a forge.
👍 Keeps track of your highest score.
👍 Steam Achievements; some are rare enough to be ranked in your "Rarest Achievements" showcase. ...That actually goes to show how rare people play this game. In fact, this is only the 20th review for it overall. ☹️
👍 Good music to listen to that fits the game's theme. 🎶
👍 Steam Trading Cards to make decent-looking Profile Badges, along with decent-looking profile backgrounds and emoticons; probably not useful emoticons but still look fun to have anyway.
👍 Two gameplay modes: 4x4 and 8x8. While 4x4 works as a normal "2048", redhat took a step further with the 8x8 and made it so that some gems that appear on the board are chained, blocking all but the same kind of gem that's chained to pass. This is because that the 8x8 version of "2048" has the player to make a tile adding up to 16384 but here the highest gem is still the Royal Brilliant, so redhat simply made something more unique for the gameplay.
That all being said, there's a few issues I need to point out for fixing to make the game better.
👎 Beforehand, if it wasn't for that discussion I read about the Beta "comp-compatibility build" thing, I would've still gotten that error message about installing Xaudio2_9 when I already did. Might want to fix that for Windows.
💡 Since redhat has images of Gem Recipes on your Trading Cards, Profile Backgrounds and emoticons, perhaps making a guide of an in-game portion in the menu which describes all possible combinations to make what Gems, as I saw I could fuse 2 starting gems (whatever they're called) with a Triangular Amethyst to make a Square Emerald for example. That might be a good idea.
👎 A serious issue regarding gameplay the players MUST be aware of; unlike other Match 3 games like "Bejeweled" and online "2048", the game is unaware of truly knowing how many moves left could be possible. It's usually it's Game Over when the board is full with no more possible gem matches left to make but for this game, if the board's full with some moves left to make but you press the wrong arrow key, you get the Game Over screen, even when you were still capable of going on. Point is that as good as this game is, BE CAREFUL NOT TO PRESS THE WRONG KEY; you WILL regret it.
If you truly plan on getting the Achievements for the current 4x4 board, I suggest reading this discussion board for guidance, otherwise you might consider the "Royal Brilliant" Achievement unbeatable:
Good luck on the 8x8 board too; you'll need it, along with some good strategy to get the Achievements specific to this mode.
Regardless, Gem Forge IS a good game to try out and enjoy.

TL;DR: worth it! One of those low disk space games that you might find yourself returning to whenever you have an extra minute or feel like a bit of escape... and progress is saved between sessions, so there's no minimum playtime required per session!! It loads and terminates quickly!

This game was originally similar to 2048 but it used Gems instead of numbers. Since then, it has changed a lot. The rules have changed in 4x4 mode (originally the only mode available), and 8x8 mode, while it gives you more space, also introduces chains crisscrossing some gems that prevent them from moving unless matched with identical or (sometimes?) other gems.
Pros:
Automatically saves progress in the middle of a game so you can quit and return later to the same game! (however, if you quit in the middle of a 4x4 game, you have to select the same mode, 4x4, to continue where you left off. Selecting 8x8 will start a new 8x8 game, overwriting the previously-stored state save (so you can return to the 8x8 game later), and vice versa)
Pleasant sound effects (I've never felt the need to turn them off)
Relaxing and comfortable music (It can get old after a while IMO, but it is good enough to turn back up sometimes
Smooth, fun gem-morphing animations
High scores for each mode saved in the Steam Cloud
Multiple game modes (4x4, 8x8 at present, each with differing rules, and I don't know what might change or improve in the future)
Developer actively improving content as of May 2019
Cons:
Setting music volume to 0% does not turn music off completely. I mentioned that in the forum and the developer acknowledged it within a few hours and fixed it for the next build, now up! (2019-05-07)
Background "fire" effect plays at about 1fps when the game is in the background and about 4-5fps when the window is focused. It can be annoying. I'd appreciate being able to disable it or switch to a more gradual morphing effect. After playing more than a few times since that effect was added, though, I've realized that I don't notice it.
(SEE EDIT!) Recently-added microtransactions (!?) I think that's what they are, and if so, that's disappointing. They're unnecessary and fortunately, completely optional.
EDIT: I'm playing as I write this review on 2019-04-22, and Bogemic Games seems to agree. They're gone, from what I can tell! ...developer mentioned in the forum that "a new method of introducing consumables" would be found, so THIS IS NEITHER A PRO NOR A CON for now.
Gem Forge is a game I sometimes play repeatedly. It does not get old quickly, and when I feel I've had enough for now, for a day, or for a week or two, I find myself returning to it (hours|days|weeks|months|years) later and being enthralled again by its simple and fun yet simultaneously complex gameplay.
Bogemic Games keeps adding things, too, so it's likely I'll find new options, achievements, or enhancements when I return if I haven't played in a while.
