Fury Unleashed

Fury Unleashed was created by combining inspiration from modern roguelite platformers, like Dead Cells and Rogue Legacy, with nostalgic memories of old-school platformer shooters, like Contra and Metal Slug. Explore the pages of a living comic book where ink is your most valuable resource and each room is a comic panel. Find out why is John Kowalsky, author of acclaimed Fury Unleashed series having a creativity crisis and see if you can help him deal with it. Kill enemies quickly enough to unleash your fury and rip through everything in your way without getting injured. Learn to play flawlessly and beat the entire game in one, epic combo! Choose either challenging Hard mode, which will put your skills to the test - or Easy mode, where you can adjust the difficulty parameters to your liking. Go solo or bring in a friend for a local co-op session. Choose your hero's skills to match your playstyle, customize their appearance or even replace their face graphic with your own! Discover worlds created by a mix of hand-designed levels and procedural generation algorithms. I don’t do a lot of reviews, but I felt compelled to a proper one because this game is really, really fun.
Action/platformer/roguelite/RPG
First of all, I’m on the wrong side of 45 and still gaming strong, but it presents a quandry: I love “old school” games, but - I am too old and can’t game as well as I used too. The secondary problem I run into is “loving the idea” of old school games but after the novelty of pixilated graphics wears off, I can’t see them as anything but ugly. Fury Unleashed effectively beat the hell out of those problems. It has an AMAZING amount of customization of difficulty allowing for old people like myself to really enjoy it as well as the crazy kids hat love games being 25 viagra hard. The graphics are really sharp and not extravagant, in short it’s pretty and runs butter smooth. It really seems like they thought of everything up to and including a pet peeve of mine where games that use the Steam Workshop make you download the workshop stuff outside of the game, but this integrates it into the character select screen so you literally see the cosmetics you can dl from the workshop and simply select it in-game.
I am a big fan of another rougelike “Undermine” and I thought it was perfect, but this is even better. Undermine was the perfect Zeldaish rougelike and this is the perfect Contraish rougelike.
Pro’s
- One of the best things about this game is that it rewards you for trying different weapons/skills/armor as opposed to punishing you if you pick "wrong" It rewards trying new things, making the replay value much higher.
- Old School gameplay without pixilated graphics.
- All of the weapons feel fun to use and worthy of using.
- There is always something that can salvage what is shaping up to be a “bad run.” Many times I *thought* a run was doomed and since it “didn’t matter” picked a power up or item I *thought* wasn’t worthwhile I’ve found said items to be incredibly useful
- Easy mode makes it accessible and is customizable so if it makes it “2ez” or not easy enough, you can adjust individual aspect of it to scale the difficulty.
- A lot of FREE cosmetic changes are available to keep things fresh, including community made skins that you can equip in-game as opposed to having to dl them from the workshop before launching.
- Movement is accessible with a high amount of variation, sprints, stomps, double (and triple) jumps air dashes etc. It is stuff that would normally be out of my wheelhouse but the control scheme works well and I’m moving like a freaking champion.
- Allows you to carry 2 weapons so you can feel free to experiment with different guns without giving up your current weapon.
Con’s
- I don’t have any yet, and I’m over 30 hours in. There is literally nothing I would change.
TL;DR
This game is awesome. If you like Action/platformers and Rougelite games, you will love this freaking game. It is a 10/10. It’s a STEAL for the price.

A pretty good fast paced rogue like platformer are taking place in a comic book. You are killing enemies using a meele weapon, a gun and some grenades. There are a lot of option for the weapons and also after every run you have the option to upgrade your character.
There is a lot of enemies, minibosses and bosses, after you beat the boss of the Act you are in for the first time even if you die on the next stage, it unlocks the option in a new run to start from the new Act.
Funny and nice short story of the dev, great music and beautiful art. The game took me around 8 hours to beat, but it have more to it and i will probably keep trying for the 100% even though i think is kinda hard to get.

Opening/ Information
Reading a review is not enough? Want to see some footage? Check the link and watch some game footage for yourself and decide if this game is worth your time:
Currently, the Humble bundle Choice offers 3 Great games, one of them is Fury Unleashed. A 2D side scrolling action shooter with a lot of RPG elements and epic Boss fights.
Do you know Awesome Games Studio? Well let me tell you I did, while playing Oozi or Yet Another Zombie Defense. Thinking that this game studio pretty much sucks and will lose itself in the mundane world of average games. Well now after Fury Unleashed I have to think differently
Gameplay / Story
Ah! PEW PEW PEW! Shoot them, slide along, buy some guns. There is the Giant tarantula, you lost 3 times to her! Kill it!
It is amazing how simple a game can be but yet so amazingly difficult and complex. When I started this game I just expected shooting and running. But the game delivers so much more. It starts with a customizable character, level ups and the best parts weapons. So many Weapons, they did a great job here. Every weapon feels completely different, the grenade launcher feels so impactful when he hits. The Laser gun with it rapid fire feels tremendous. Now lets talk about the Gameplay. You jump, you stomp, you crack heads with melee weapons, and you dash around. The Game is settled in to segments, and you run from map segment to map segment killing everything and getting your Combo timer high. The higher it is, the more money you get and the higher the chance of healing orbs and potions. But the best feature are the bosses. They are massive and everyone needs a strategy, sometimes its just dashing and shooting but then again on other parts they have different forms and patterns to memorize. In total this game is awesome and not what I expected when I initially started to play it.
Pro
+ a lot of different enemies every unique in their skill sets and attack patterns
+ Unique hero with customizable body and level up system
+ Different Bosses with unique skill sets
+ Grenades and unique special skills for your guy
+ hard mode
+ levels have different build-ups with treasures to find
+ special missions during the normal gameplay
Contra
- Bosses are far too much of bullet sponges
- RNG based item finding can ruin your day (I got 4 different grenade launchers during a game)
Conclusion/ Who will enjoy the game?
Fury Unleashed offers an addictive 2D action game with unique enemies and a giant effort to the action-roguelike games. There is not much to say only that you need to live with the fact it's done via unity game assets and can look a bit awkward.
So who will enjoy this game? Do you like Roque like action games? Need something more modern than Roque Legacy? Did you love the gameplay of Skul the Hero Slayer? Well in this case this game is for you!
I recommend checking the AWG group for more detailed reviews

Yeh, bought this over 4 years ago when it was called Badass Hero and it has evolved really nicely. The gameplay is super-fluid and the animations are great making it very satisfying to play. The whole loot and upgrade / progress system works really well, as well as the exploration.
As far as roguelike action platformers go, it may not be up there with the Big 2 - Dead Cells or Rogue Legacy but can certainly compete with the next tier and the likes of Neon Abyss, Skul: The Hero Slayer and 20XX.

Awesome game, hours of fun, worth every penny

Review from Steam

In less than an hour, you'll shoot at Aztec zombies in the face with your shotgun, crush-stomp acid-spitting bugs, lob freezing grenades at cyber-Nazis, blow giant, fire-peeing robots to smithereens, and laser-blast the behinds of alien invaders. You lost? Fury is now stronger, so enter the fray once again - and again, and again, and again. If a fan of over-the-top action, Fury Unleashed is an easy recommendation.

Fury unleashed = Roguelike + shoot'em up + bullet hell
My biggest gripe in this game:
- Endgame/last level really dropped the fun part of the game
- Not so Interesting skill trees/upgrades
- Slow character progression after level 35 or so
