This will be my first review on a game ever. I am only writing this to very politely say DO NOT BUY THIS GAME AT FULL PRICE
The game is fun, I enjoyed my playthrough very much. However, I purchased the Deluxe edition and for some reason... it included pointless lacrima they could've made available through maxing out your laboratory, and some costumes. And then, about a month later, they release DLC that wasn't included in the Deluxe edition?!?! Especially for things that they could've just made available on release. Again, the game is amazing I enjoyed it. But this is worse than EA.
To conclude, TIL: Don't buy deluxe editions at full price if they don't include season passes because you will be very disappointed. And I am passing this information on to others who may make the same mistake that I did.

A great game that does unfortunately suffer from KOEI being.... Well KOEI.
The DLC is absolutely insane, but honestly I saw this coming as all you have to do is look at Dead Or Alive and you see the same thing. What makes this worse is for those who paid for the deluxe don't even get the season pass, we all paid an extra £15 for basically nothing.
It makes it hard to recommend, because I can see going forward any content that may come out for this game being heavily pay walled as well as overpriced, I mean the season pass is nearly the price of the game again.... And to be honest it's not worth it.
It sucks, because honestly the game is pretty fun. It captures the feel of the series so well. The combat animations are all well done and fun to watch through (Even if some go on a little too long, looking at you Lucy). The voice acting is alright and the story stays mostly loyal to the series arcs it follows. There are upgrades both for your guild and your characters, well sort of you can equip Lacrima to boost stats. There are plenty of side quests, even if they are on the repetitive side and can become a bit of a chore to get through. There is a good amount of dialogue and banter between the characters. A good amount of moves at your disposable and overall a good challenge if you play on a higher difficulty.
For me the game runs great, I have personally had no issues with crashing or bugs or other technical problems.
I like the game, I really do..... But I will admit I have a bias because I love the series so I can forgive some faults, and there are some pretty glaring ones. The main ones being just how many characters don't even get a model, or are even mentioned at all (Freed, Evergreen and Bickslow are the ones that come to mind off the top of my head). Along with that NPC models are reused WAY to much, you will see the same person over and over and over.... This is just lazy.
Speaking of lazy..... As I said just now there are so many characters that don't get models so during the Grand Magic Games, for example, you will find generic mobs in the place of what should be guild members. I mean Flare is the only one in RavenTail that got a model, Ichiya the only one for Blue Pegasus, Kagura for Mermaid Heel. Now I understand that not every character needs to be in the game, but there are quite a few that should be there, that are not.
And I feel I have to mention it.... The day one censoring. It does not make any sense. You block panty shots with normal clothing.... But you have no problem with having, and selling, swimsuits that... Well... Show panties. What logic is that.
Ugh sounds more negative than positive doesn't it. And I won't lie It's a hard sell if you are not a fan of the series, especially at the price point. It's Fairytail, if you love it buy it... If not you can pass on it. I personally have enjoyed my time with it.

Amazing game, worth $60? Possibly not.
So far if I can say if you like older games like Suikoden and Last Remnant then you will surely like this game, if even you're not someone who has watched or likes the Fairy Tail anime.
Pros:
- Quick paced, easy and enjoyable combat
- Lots of charcs and abilities
- Good movies
- Enjoyable side quests, not to taxing
- Great music and voices
- Fun combat and chain systems
- Lots more small things like glamour, crafting and farming
Cons:
- Dated graphics for gameplay (movies are beautiful)
- Already nerfed the "undies" for women
- Repetitive combat/farming zones
- Small visual glitches, mermaids humping the land hardcore, birds flapping into rocks, you know the basic stuff.
I would ask again, is it worth $60? for me to reminisce in my childhood it possibly could be, but I would say its a solid $40 game, that would be a perfect price for this gem. Wait for a sale and pick it up, veteran or newbie to the series. (Though I would watch the anime first to understand the feelings and abilities of the character lineups)

Mini review of the game.
- Finished within 32 hours (After Chapter 7 i stopped doing request and said i will save it until i finish the game)
- Soundtrack in the game is great (had no doubts about it)
- Gameplay is similar to Atelier series but i found it more enjoyable
- Story wise I don't have too many complaints though some parts of the story wasn't playable and was shown as mini scenes. They covered a decent amount imo.
- Request got repetitive after a while (the usual go kill "X" amount of enemies in this area). There was some Request which had some sort of uniqueness to it but nothing too special.
- The S Rank request are more interesting as you get to fight some interesting bosses which i enjoyed more.
- Textures could have been better in some areas
- Boss fights overall were decent
- Difficulty wise the game might give you "slight" trouble at the start if you are playing on Hard but once you start getting better Lacrima game pretty much becomes easy (unless you are not doing no requests and just rushing the story).
PC Port
- Sometimes the game had issues when trying to start up e.g. Game would say it is running on Steam then closes 5 seconds later. I believe a patch should be coming to fix that issue very soon.
- No slowdowns or any crashes or random freezes which is really good (and should be the standard but i know sometimes these stuff won't show until the majority of the people have and play the game)
- Graphics options is the usual. Not too sure about the widescreen support (sorry Ultrawide people)
Overall the game is solid and i do recommend this game to be played whenever you can get it.

This is a hard one to fully recommend, especially to folks not already a fan of the anime/manga series for which this was derived. On one hand, I really enjoyed my experience playing it. Sure, playing it to completion involved a bit of a grind, but I feel it was worth it, especially with how much charm there was to character interactions and faithfulness to the source material. On the other, I hate how little Koei Tecmo seemed to care about this game. Gust did a brilliant job at working with what the developers were given, but they weren't given all that much to work with.
Story: We focus on the epilogue of the Tenrou Island arc, and skip 7 years ahead to the Grand Magic Games arc, soon to be followed by the Tartaros arc. Both are fun arcs, but this is way out in the middle of the series, and the lack of context will throw any newbie off course. Even casual viewers would still go in fairly confused. The game tries to alleviate this by providing an encyclopedia of past events, and occasional references during requests and character stories, but it doesn't have nearly the impact. If you're playing this game in Japan, it won't come as much of a surprise that they started where they did. Fairy Tail games going from the beginning of the series to the Tenrou Island arc have already been made in plentiful enough amounts. But none of these games were ever localized for the States, making for a lesser experience.
Music: Fairy Tail's original soundtrack is one of the most recognizable parts of the original anime series. I can hear the beginning tracks and immediately pinpoint them to the show. One thing that always stood out to me is how much the soundtrack kind of resembled Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland's soundtrack, and vice-versa. In a way, this was a dream team in terms of music, and it really shows. It can have a pleasant, atmospheric feel during traversal and be notably hype during battle when it needs to be.
Gameplay: I am so, so glad this was a turn-based RPG. This could have easily been just a brain dead, junk food arena brawler, but instead I get to play a Fairy Tail game with my favorite video game genre of all time, and it's fairly in-depth. The plethora of characters available have a plethora of moves available, all focusing on different ranges of attacks and attack types, fit to face opponents on a 3x3 grid. You start off with a 3-person team, which eventually grows to 5. Not bad at all, considering how many characters there are to select from. A lot of your time will be focused on bringing the Fairy Tail guild back to its former glory, and I honestly had a fun time exploring everything the gameplay had to offer.
Characters: This will make or break it for some people. If your favorite characters aren't playable, why bother? Luckily, they have 16 different characters to put in your team by the end of the game. one a little too late, in my personal opinion, so there is a good chance your favorite made it in. People will miss classics like Cana/Kanna and members of the Thunder Legion (who don't even exist, according to the video game), and the characters that are there are only in Japanese, which, aside from a few characters, doesn't hold much of a candle to the much superior English dub the anime series provided. I won't blame people turned off by this. The game has Gray Fullbuster, Juvia Lockser, and Rogue Cheney playable, and I overall didn't mind playing in Japanese, so I got what I needed.
Graphics: This is a point of contention for many. I can't in good taste say this looks like a PS2 game, but there are Japanese PS3 games that look better. NPC models are reused badly, monsters have palette swaps, major character models are missing, and the environments are nothing special. However, the major character models that are there look pretty faithful. I've seen people rag on the expressions in their faces, but I never saw an issue with them. For what the game is capable of doing, they look well enough. Plus, if you're mostly just focusing on the gameplay, and you're a fan of the series already, you'll enjoy the flashy special moves. Just don't expect state of the art current gen graphics.
Technical: I didn't really see much in the way of technical problems on my copy. I run a pretty beefy rig, and it ran a smooth 1440p @60FPS, only experiencing the rarest of frame drops during certain multi-model enemy attacks. Others seem to have various issues, but I didn't really experience those, myself.
Censorship: The fanservice show (that already censored most sections compared to the manga) censored upskirt shots. I'll be honest, I don't really care. The game doesn't offer much in the way of angles to justify censoring or uncensoring to begin with. I could see how some people can be upset with Lucy and Erza being restricted on this, considering their appeal and skimpier attire, but people are actually upset that Wendy (12) and Sherria (15) can't have their black voids removed? Pathetic.
Conclusion: If you want the best experience with this game, watch the anime or read the manga up to the Tenrou Island arc first. If you like it enough, the game's worth your time. Is it worth it at $60? Well, people on the PS4 gobbled up the Final Fantasy VII Remake for $60 and called it a GOTY contender, despite being much shorter, much more bloated, and the combat replacement being more poor than what the original had to offer, so take that for what you will.

I know you guys probably hate reading so I will keep it short. (then again if you hate reading what are you doing reading reviews)
Pros
- fun gameplay
- great music
- a lot of sidestuff to do (some people would consider this a con but I like doing stuff outside off the story)
- aside from the story events and some requests you have complete freedom who you play with. You need to unlock characters first but then you are able to choose freely. You are not forced to always play with natsu and lucy (aside from the start) wich is something I was afraid off. I like the freedom you have in this.
- in contrary to some other reviews I have no issues with this game running at all. But I have a 2K priced game pc thats only 4 months old so that could have something to do with it.
- barely any bugs. Usually games that have just released have way more bugs as this one has.
mixed
- You need and I mean need to have watched the anime or read the manga to understand the story. Its a little bith rushed at some points wich isnt directly an issue if you know the story already. But if you dont its a confusing mess here and there.
- The keyboard controls are clunky. I was able to get used to them with the help off a guide but they are not great. But since they already told they are going to fix that in a later patch I will put it on mixed instead of cons.
- Im right now at the end off the grand magic games and I still get tutorials about how some mechanics work. Its great that they dont dump everything at once so you have time to master everything. But its also annoying how you still get some tutorial ish stuff 20 hours in the game.
cons
- There are several characters missing. Some off the fights I was really looking forward to are not in the game at all wich is a bummer for me. Even tho I know the game is low budget so I can understand it im not directly liking it.
- Not a con for everything but I dislike that the voices are forced in japanese. I would have prefered if they would let us pick like you can possibly do in anime. Im forced to read the story through words and since I cant understand anything they say and the faces dont show emotion I cant recognise the emotion people have for specific things. I can hear it in the voices but cant really place it further as guessing where the emotion fits.
- forced sidestuff in the story. Im a big fan of sidestuff. But I hate it when the game forces you to do it during the story. I had no issues personally with this because I was usually ahead off where you needed to be but its definitly going to be a major downside for other people.
- Game is so far on the easy side. I barely struggled at all. True im a pretty experienced JRPG player but even on hard I barely struggled so far and I wasnt even overleveled. I was mostly around the lvl where the game wanted me to be.
TLDR: Game is pretty enjoyable if you are a fan of fairy tail and know its story in advance. The game is better on a good pc or a console so if you dont have a high quality pc, get it for a console. Is the game worth full price?
No it isnt. But if you are a fan off the series wait till its like half the price off what it is now and you will not regret it.
