Eydigard
Eydigard immerses you in a compelling RPG set in a fjord of Northern Norway during the late 15th and early 16th centuries. A relentless plague has swept the region, leaving once-flourishing farmlands desolate, and allowing ominous creatures such as trolls and vettirs to reclaim the land. This chaos has sparked tensions between the few remaining clans and settlements, each seeking power and control over the fjord.
Amidst this disorder, the fjord draws many adventurers and mercenaries, among whom you play as a mysterious shapeshifter. Tasked with navigating the intricate politics of the rival clans and combating the invading forces of folklore, you strive to reclaim and cleanse the lost lands.
Key features:
Creatures from Norwegian Folklore: Encounter and interact with creatures from Norwegian folklore, including trolls, hulders, and vettirs
Shapeshifting Mechanic: In Eydigard, players are given the power to transform into various animals, each with unique skills and abilities. This shapeshifting mechanic is central to gameplay, providing versatile solutions for combat, exploration, and puzzle-solving. Whether you need to sneak past enemies as a cunning lynx or overpower foes as a mighty bear, the shape you take significantly influences your strategies and playstyle.
Intricate Political Landscape: The world of Eydigard is torn between two rival clans, each with their distinct culture, ambitions, and ways of life. As a player, you must navigate this complex political landscape, making decisions that will determine your allegiance and shape the future of the fjord. Your interactions with the clans add a layer of depth to the game, affecting both the narrative and gameplay outcomes.
Plague Cleansing: Players are tasked with cleansing and restoring farmsteads affected by a devastating plague. Each farm offers distinct challenges and rewards. How you handle the plague’s impact can affect your standing with the clans, the game’s economy, and the overall state of Eydigard.
Cooperative Gameplay: Although Eydigard can be played solo, the game offers a cooperative gameplay experience where you can team up with friends. Whether it’s in combat, exploration, or tackling the plague, working together opens up new strategies and pathways, enriching the overall game experience.

First of, it's always difficult to recommend unfinished early access games, so I usually don't. But as someone who loves nordic history and folklore, I am biased. That said, if you can take this review for what it is, this simple little rpg is a wonderful take on the themes and source material used within.
The gameplay loop as it is now, while simple (in terms of combat and interactions/activities), I would say is interesting enough to make it fun. I'm 8 hours (of light meandering) in, and it still feels like there's still a lot ahead, though time will tell how much of it may be gated behind future updates. Trying to figure out how to cleanse the lands while running around as a skin changer, exploring while running some errands, enjoying the sights and sounds, ... All wonderful. And while you can't *pet* the dog, very sad, you can *be* the dog. And that's almost makes up for it.
The game of course still has that early access smell in certain areas, some polish in others. Kinda surprisingly, the norwegian translations are almost non-existant, instead using lines from the english version, but what's there seems well written so far. The devs seem to be active and responsive, and the game certainly has me charmed with its current cast and content, so I look forward to seeing what the devs have in store, and to experience the full story when that finally comes out. Wishing them all the best.

This game has potential...But it needs to be more of itself and less of a ,,Valheim without building" sort of a game.
It's still in early access....but it was like that for half a year and the basic fixes like corrected animations and lack of audio is still an issue that puts of while playing!
I will come back to it in the future for sure, but I hope for it to be more of a playable environment and that it gets rid of Outward syndrome by then :/

The trailers here don't accurately display what the graphics look like entirely. The graphics aren't there yet; least not in my play through and I have a couple hours in so far. Game seems good from what I've played. I love that I can transform into different animals. Would love to see this game take off more! Even as an EA game I think it's good; it's just the sound track makes me super sleepy! Definitely a coop game more than a solo type but you can do both if you want too. Way more wandering around than adventuring from what I've seen so far. If you have friends who want to get it; get it you'll have fun but solo adventure this seems kinda dry at times and far from what most consider this an rpg. But hopefully it gets more traction and more can be seen in the game. I'm excited to see what else I'll learn in my travels within this game.
