I was a huge fan of the original Discolored and highly recommend it. This second one, not so much. The first game felt intuitive and, although switching colors constantly became a tad tedious, it made sense and the story flowed. Discolored 2 just left me cold... no sense of wonder or victory at the end. There is a comprehensive hint system which I needed to use more often than I am used to... not for puzzle solutions but to help me figure out where I needed to look next.
The game (in Safe Mode) felt like a grind... one puzzle and finding one hidden object after another, without a sense of direction or purpose. The puzzles themselves were fairly easy, once you figured out the mechanics. The inventory key mapping felt clunky and I was constantly left-clicking or right-clicking by habit (which was not correct in this game). I finished the game and discovered I did not have access to 17 out of 45 achievements in Safe Mode. For those who are not achievement driven, this is no big deal. But, for me, it was oddly irritating.
So, I decided to give the Standard Mode a try. An hour in, I am am under attack for the third time. I am in an elevator shaft and I believe that my way out requires fighting wonky controls with a power saw that takes longer than the enemy lets me live. Any residual fun factor has disappeared entirely and the quest for achievements is no longer compelling.
The game has multiple save slots (I used 10) which is very handy if you need to circle back. In safe mode, most achievements are story-related, with two groups of collectibles (radio transmitters and donuts) that are easy to miss if you are not examining each area thoroughly.
So, would I recommend this game? Perhaps to two kinds of players. (1) Safe Mode is great for those who don't care about Steam achievements and don't like to game under fire. (2) Standard Mode is for those with lightening quick reflexes and who function well under pressure. Note that completionists will need to play the game between 2 and 3 times - once in safe mode and twice in standard mode. You need a perfect standard mode game (no captures and restoring a save point before a capture is not an option) and at least a partial standard mode game with failures (getting caught multiple times).
I can't give the game a thumbs down. It is well designed and executed with an interesting story line and a diverse set of puzzles. For the right gamer, I'm sure it is a lot of fun. I experienced no bugs and the art and sound track are impressive. But, it was not developed for the same target audience of the original Discolored. This departure by Godbey Games was a bit of a disappointment to me.
An added note: Having escaped the elevator shaft, I am now well on my way in Standard Mode. This version is how the game was designed tp be played and the 'gaps' in Safe Mode are filled in and things flow much smoother. To the developer's credit, they have provided clues and slow the enemy's timing after a certain number of failures. In some cases, there are milestones in your encounter and the game is saved so you don't have to always start from square-one after a death. The challenge is rarely about 'running to escape.' You need to assess your inventory and the environment. Then, quickly use the resources available to survive. In some cases, there are brief QTEs which are very fairly timed. I have accepted that it will take me multiple deaths (and 'try again' screens) to make it through each area, but it is still enjoyable as I figure out how to outsmart an adversary. I have no aspirations for a perfect game so I am relaxed and glad the developer has given imperfect gamers a fair chance!

Get it on sale. This might be the first 3D game I've played with pixel hunting. Several times, you're in a large room with 50 things to look at, but you were supposed to notice the tiny thing in the corner. Also, the random pause menu items appearing was an unfortunate idea. Thank you a ton for including a story mode, because I cannot fathom I'd have enjoyed pixel hunting while being chased by something.

All up Discolored 2 is a fairly enjoyable puzzler thanks to core mechanics and several decent self-contained puzzles. When the game presents challenges with straightforward mechanics, it can flow well, mainly in the later half. When it trends towards the abstract, and requires players to hunt for obscure interactive points, it loses its way. The active threats in the world are rarely hard to avoid, but they differentiate the experience and bring it to life. While not all puzzles in Discolored 2 will bring joy, there are enough green flags here to make it worth trying.

Great game, and much longer than the first, though still relatively short. The environment design is beautiful, especially in levels where you can see outside, and the music (and lack thereof) complements it perfectly. The horror elements are more tense than they are scary, so you should be fine even if that's not your thing. I did encounter a few bugs, two of which I had to load autosaves to progress past, and unfortunately a lot of questions about the organisation remain unanswered.
It's not perfect, but I really enjoyed it, and it's pretty much exactly what I was hoping for in a sequel.

A good challenging game of observation and exploration. Play the first Discolored if you haven't already. Not a requirement but you'll double your enjoyment. Very smooth running and as I like to finish collecting achievements after my first play through a definite plus. A very well managed hint system can point out something simple that is just enough of a nudge that you don't feel like anything was given away too easily. You can play safe mode without a care in the world or choose to face some adversaries (actually run away from them! ) Enjoy!

It's a cool puzzle game, the puzzles are neat and I'm a huge fan of the various silly "concepts" and reality-bends the game uses!
