Desktop+ is a powerful, yet lightweight tool for SteamVR bringing your desktops and windows into the VR world. No matter if you just need a more reliable desktop view in your dashboard or a complex context-aware multi-overlay setup with custom shortcuts, Desktop+ offers a wide array of tweakable settings to make the overlays fit your needs.
Features
- User interface with real-time adjustments accessible in VR or on desktop
- Smooth, low-latency mirroring of desktops and windows
- Low memory footprint and performance impact
- Support for creating as many overlays as SteamVR allows at once
- Customizable overlay settings (width, position, curvature, opacity, cropping), with switchable profiles
- 3D support (SBS, HSBS, OU, HOU)
- Overlay visibility and origin settings: Display a desktop/window during gameplay or attach it to a different origin (play space, dashboard, HMD, controllers, tracker)
- Actions: User-definable functions (input simulation, running applications) which can be bound to controller or UI buttons
- Keyboard Extension, enabling use of modifier, arrow and function keys from the SteamVR keyboard
- Elevated access toggle, making it possible to deal with UAC prompts and other UIP-restricted UI in VR without using full admin-access at all times
- Gaze Fade: Fade-out overlay when not looking at it
- Window Management: Change window focus depending on overlay/dashboard state or drag overlays when dragging the title bar of a mirrored window
- Performance Monitor: View system performance in real time

Desktop+ is my #1 must-have program for VR. It's surprising more people don’t know about it, because it’s free and packed with features that match or beat paid apps.
Performance metrics overlay (including frame drop detection and controller battery levels), snapping windows to your wrist like a watch, docking windows to your headset as an overlay, gaze fade, controller button bindings, an advanced keyboard with shortcut support, and even 3D conversion (SBS, HSBS, Top-to-Bottom).
Honestly, Desktop+ can replace programs like FpsVR (€3.99) and OVR Toolkit (€9.75!) without costing a dime. In my opinion, it’s better in design, has more settings, and in general offer all the same functionality as other programs.

One of the best pieces of free software I have ever used. It does everything the basic Steam desktop window functionality does, plus much much much more, and has extremely low overhead and a very simple and easy to use UI. Over the years, Valve seems to have incorporated a lot of the features of this app into their built-in desktop utility in SteamVR, but I still think this one is better and easier to use.
If you want to be like one of those SciFi gods, having 8 windows open in a virtual space, while playing a game, and have a limited performance monitor, or if you need to hop into your desktop real quick for sound/OS options, or to launch/modify mod settings in something like SkyrimVR, or look something up on the internet real quick, or just want your additionaly windows with custom sizes/shapes to always generate/stick in the same spot, then this addon is for you.
I really like using it to have keep a window open to youtube, VLC, or spotify in the corner so i can listen to or watch, movies, or podcasts or have quick access to their controls in the virtual space while I am playing SBS 3D RPCS3 games in Bigscreen Beta (like Superstardust 3D, or Wipeout HD). It has also been a lifesaver for quickly adjusting mod settings in Revive, SkyrimVR, launching Raicupatra mods, Halo VR mod, etc. from desktop and relaunching the game.
My only complaint is the Performance monitor is not as robust as fpsVR, so I end up having to use that as an additional addon as well, but i understand if the developer wants to stick to/limit their scope. It also has issues sometimes with Windows HDR profiles, but I am almost certain that is a Windows/NVidia issue.

This is a very versatile app that does everything I needed which is mainly displaying 3D SBS content in 3D on a floating screen. I use this to play games in 3D using ReShade. Fantastic companion app for that purpose.

Goated dev, goated software. Just wished my headset had higher resolution.

THANK YOU!!!!! I can finally watch my movies as I want!!
I have a PSVR2 and I use Plex. I have been trying several apps to just open the web app and watch a movie from my collection on a theater-like mode.
I failed miserably with all the others. Either the sound required some add-on/tweak, or they had horrendous delays that made the video out of sync, or forced you to use some neat 3D scenarios that I simply don`t care about.
I just want a nice looking floating screen in front of my eyes!
An Desktop+ simply worked, flawlessly, on the first attempt.
And you can have several screens floating around you!? This can be a REALLY cool way to look at dashboards!
Well done, "some Alex guy", whoever you are. Thank you.

Been using Desktop+ for quite some time now after trying out others before it, but this one won the grand prize -
Lightweight and simple implementation.
It won because after getting used to it and figuring out the various options - it just works great with VR.
I use it for general dashboard/surfing/working as well as gaming. I especially like the fluid way you can place
and scale monitors/windows and curve them depending on what's necessary, where steamVR dashboard alone is... nah.
Also use it ingame as an extra monitor in some VR-titles to watch movies or other media by setting up a shortcut to show/hide the Desktop+ windows. Hell, sometimes I have an enormous screen behind the main screen with a fireplace - great for RPGs.
It's free and if this was a game - it would probably be my most played game on steam. Big 1UP to the dev!

Really nice to have floating displays. Takes a lil bit to get used to but I'm really happy with it
