Dated, flawed, weird, partially broken, more of a techdemo from a forgotten era than a game, but I still gotta recommend it over the "remastered" version. If you ever feel like buying Crysis 2007 you can still do it by purchasing the Crysis Warhead bundle.
I gotta repeat myself, the REMASTERED VERSION IS ASS on both technical and gameplay level. You will have a much better experience playing the OG version.

About 20 years since release, and STILL better than 99.9% of the unity/unreal engine 5 crap that comes out nowadays. Just get gud at tweaking the game.cfg file/Steam launch options you babies. The remaster based off the console version is probably more your speed anyway if you can't do this.

Played it when I was a student back in 2008, with my very first gaming laptop....damn this game nearly melted that thing. The visuals are still beautiful even 18 years after release!

If you have a VR headset, Id highly recommend grabbing and playing this game through with the fholger VR mod. I played the game from start to finish and had a great time - its better than most made for VR games out there currently.
The game play really holds up and works well in VR. I found myself approaching situations differently in VR than I would in flat, which also made the game feel fresh even though I have played and beat it before in the past.
Of course the last few hours of the game when you're dealing with the aliens is still weak, but nothing can fix that. Also the vehicle driving in VR is a little janky, but for the most part using a vehicle is optional.

A pretty decent FPS with some cool ideas that were ahead of it's time with. But the latter half of the game falls off for me personally. Fighting the dudes was way more fun than fighting the aliens and that's all the last half of the game is. It just felt like there were more ways to out-play the human soldiers and in more satisfying ways, but the aliens were kind of stale. Still a good shooter for 2007, but it's no Halo 3

The real Far Cry 2;
A Open ended linear experience done right, The given amount of freedom and possibilities to in/exfiltrate and to tackle any objective(exceptions, vtol section), puts most modern open world games to shame, atleast in level design.
The icing on the cake? the suit upgrades. Basic shield, Yaknow, it stops bullets. Could be swapped out (by a wheel or hotkeys) for maximum strength, having the ability to toss a soldier 30 ft to their death, or throwing a fridge to cause maximum blunt damage. A Cloak to vanish, and Maximum speed just in case you don't have a vehicle.
OH, and graphically, the game could still pass today (some exceptions though like the ground tessellation)
Runs flawlessly with the c1 launcher
