“Either the greatest Call of Duty or the worst”
There was a significant amount of heated controversy which mired the pre-release in negativity and submerged this game in the heaped piles of hate we see it hidden in today.
Due to an unusual COD story in a rare fictional setting and an unforgettable business decision with choosing to sell, essentially a replacement remaster of an already famous and much beloved rendition of Modern warfare, made many people consider this game as nothing more than an awkward and unwanted addition to their growing COD library.
But for everyone else, like me, Call of Duty Infinite Warfare, will be my most memorable “surprise” Single Player experience along with other sci-fi sagas like TitanFall 2, Halo and Killzone.
If it isn't the campaign style pick and choose your own mission path similar to the Westwood RTS of ye olde, the interesting addition of a hybrid of space and air dog fighting or even the 30+ weapons - something will eventually catch your attention and keep you interested.
Honestly, I genuinely wasn't blown away by a campaign’s final act since the first time I played Mass Effect.
The story may be something ripped out of Gundam 101 with the story events set in a typical distant future where Mankind had colonized Mars and as would be expected, over the years Mars militarised and sought independence.
Unfortunately, a forgettable cast with the exception of some actors from BSG, SG1 and GOT, really do let the story down who the only character “worth” remembering ironically, is Ethan, the real star trapped in a metal faceless robot.
Yet somehow, despite this serious flaw, this story comes together and weaves an unexpected yet rewarding memorable experience about overcoming despair, surviving crushing defeat, overcoming heartbreaking loss, witnessing noble sacrifice and hopefully, if you let it all come together with the desired empathy, understanding the true meaning of “Duty”.
As such, 9/10.
It is a shame they put the Call of Duty title on the game because that anchor is really what let this masterpiece down…

Review from Steam

This game is vastly underrated. I think people should give it a chance. People only hated it because they believed every Call of Duty game would be set in the future when in reality, Call of Duty: WWII was already in development for two years at the time of Infinite Warfare's release. I also view this game as an attempt by Infinity Ward to create something new after every Call of Duty game was being accused of being the same and yet when they tried to make Infinite Warfare, people complained it was too different.
I've played this game and the single player campaign is very epic, I like how you can explore the Solar System including an asteroid heading towards the Sun which was among the greatest Call of Duty missions I ever played. People really hated this game despite the fact it's actually pretty good. This more than qualifies as a fun and playable game. It was nowhere near as bad as people made it out to be.
If Activision announced at the same time of the infamous trailer that a World War II game would release next year, I don't think people would be as angry of Infinite Warfare's reveal, they had already planned to release a World War II game, they just didn't announce it until after the game released. Infinite Warfare is a good game and I can't find any reason to call this game a critical failure.
