The Process of Resting in Baldur’s Gate 3. Differences Between Short Rest and Long Rest.

In Baldur's Gate 3, replenishing health is a straightforward task thanks to the availability of healing potions. However, unlike them, there are no similar means to restore magical spell slots in the game. The only way to replenish them is to take a break. Warlocks require only a short rest, while other classes need a longer one. As a result of such rest, not only magical spell slots but also health will be restored.

In the lower right corner of the screen during gameplay, you can notice an icon in the shape of a campfire.

When you click on it, three icons appear. The top icon is for a short rest, and the middle one is for a long rest. You can activate them only when you're not in combat or dialogue.

Features of a Short Rest

  • It can be taken twice a day.
  • The number of available breaks is indicated by glowing dots on the icon.
  • Partial health restoration for all characters.
  • Replenishment of spell slots for warlocks.
  • Removal of temporary effects from certain races and character classes.

Features of a Long Rest

  • It can be taken once a day. After completing a long rest, the next morning begins.
  • Full health and spell slot restoration for all characters with 40 units of provisions. If provisions are insufficient, only half of the health and spell slots will be restored for everyone except warlocks, who will fully restore spell charges regardless of the amount of provisions.
  • Ability to change the party composition.
  • Reset of all temporary effects.
  • Possibility to engage in lengthy dialogues during the rest.
  • Ability to resurrect fallen heroes for 200 coins each.
  • Restoration of the ability to take short breaks.
