Finally, a game set in Ancient Greece that doesn’t involve Kratos.
It’s like a Guacamelee/God of War mash-up with a beautiful ancient greek pottery art style. Pretty sure there’s even giant phalluses depicted. Or were those bulky spears?

Apotheon is a heroic single-player action / adventure game set within the world of ancient Greek mythology where you wrestle Greek gods to save mankind. I totally recommend this game because it is a lot of fun to play. It has wonderful and unique artwork, and very good soundtrack that fits with the whole Greek mythology theme. The game mechanics are also versatile and there is a big variety of weapons to fight with. The content is large as well (around 20 hours to 100%), and the game is quite challenging at the hardest difficulty. 8/10.

The game is set in Greek Mythology, it has black vase style of art. The controls may seem junky at first but when you get good with it, it really feels satisfying. The music is beatiful and the idea of fighting against the tyranny of gods is such a common but real satisfying. It has such a good story and content for its price, I really recommend it playing at least twice, you may have missed some gods to talk and interact with.

Beautiful aesthetic well married to the 2D platformer gameplay. Atmospheric soundtrack and nicely nestled in the mythology. Well paced and a good amount of variety to keep things tipping along.

From an uneducated glance, Apotheon appears to be 2D God of War with an amphora art filter. While the combat is arguably simpler than GoW, the game itself is a small-scale Metroidvania featuring a similar premise executed in a wholly different way. Its depiction of the Greek Pantheon is grounded in much more historical realism than most of the industry. Apotheon's greatest strength is its diverse levels. Each represents a different god and the game manages to accomplish this through visuals and clever gameplay. It’s a short, focused experience with fantastic art direction and a decent story. Also, it's the professional start for voice actor ProZD and SungWon always delivers.

One of the most fun platformers I've played in ages. Not much to say: there's a crafting system that kind of feels like it adds needless complexity, but at the same time provides an avenue for making items you might need if world pickups are scarce. Combat is just simple enough to learn quickly but just detailed enough that fights are enjoyable. The sequences with the various gods are all well done and unique; Poseidon and Athena were the most fun and were two of the last before the end so the game does keep getting better as it goes on.
Overall worth a buy. Plays great on the SteamDeck as well and has been the main game I've been playing on the go lately.
