Ancestors Legacy
Take command of your army as you storm through medieval Europe in an extensive series of campaigns. Choosing one of the four available nations – Viking, Anglo-Saxon, German, Slav – you will be tasked with more than just conquering, raiding and pillaging enemy camps, villages and towns. Only by utilizing the full range of available tactical options, taking strategic advantage of the environment, and managing your temporary bases and settlements, will you emerge victorious. Ancestors Legacy is a history-inspired real-time strategy game influenced by historical events in the Middle Ages. The game combines resource management and base building with large-scale, squad-based battles across vast battlefields, all rendered in great detail thanks to the Unreal Engine 4 tech. Experience medieval bloodshed like never before, thanks to the cinematic action camera that puts you right in the middle of the battle at the press of a button.

Ancestors Legacy Is Like A Medieval Version Of Company Of Heroes. It has basically the same UI, retreat command, squad sizes, etc...
The game scratches the itch for a traditional RTS, but underdelivers on its promise of historical accuracy.

This is a simpler RTS game focused on commanding squads of soldiers and heroes; plus, graphics are pretty decent. There are about 9 campaigns with about 5 missions each (so 45 missions total). Personally, I love playing this game during my breaks from 4X and other strategy-heavy games, but I do wish that there was a way to remove the unit cap (could lead to some epic battles and a fry some potato PCs). Overall, this is a solid game at a discount. From my $1 to 1 hour of enjoyment ratio, this game is worth about $20-$25.

A medieval RTS reminiscent of squad based Relic Entertainment titles like Company of Heroes and the early Dawn of War games, Ancestors Legacy is a strong addition to the relatively quiet historical strategy genre. With the base game featuring just four unique factions, it lacks some of the depth of similar titles, but I felt this was effectively countered with the stunning graphics, the brilliant soundtrack, the immersive cinematic battle camera and the length and quality of the included campaigns. Watching your units in battle is a genuine pleasure and the music sets the perfect backdrop for the dark, medieval setting. It's not without faults, but fans of historical strategy games will likely enjoy the challenge and setting of Ancestors Legacy. I'd definitely recommend picking it up on sale.

When you run out of food there's literally nothing you can do except completely disband your army. Leaves you feeling impotent and you might as well restart. No raiding, no trading, no rationing to buy more time, nothing. No buildings you can build, it is all about map control.
They should remove the effect of food on morale, or minimize it and depend on food being necessary for reinforcements and having an effect on healing since retreat and regrouping is the core game mechanic.

I've never really been an RTS guy. I've tried a few of the more popular games in the genre, but they didn't really work out. I will say this. If you are someone with an interest in trying out and getting to know the RTS genre, Ancestor's Legacy is good start. It is a fun game with a good story and a nice learning curve for beginners. Hope this helps!

Game consists of a roughly 8 campaigns with 5 missions each. Main objectives and side quests keep things a bit interesting. Not the greatest RTS but I didn't mind it. Typically you rely on supplies to survive which means capturing villages or finding the odd supply in the field. Units consist of sword, bow, crossbow, catapult, bow horseman, sword horseman, pikeman, cleaver, and spear launcher thing all depending on what campaign you're playing. You usually have a hero or two on your team as well. You don't really have too many options in terms of gameplay. If your looking for a complex RTS this ain't it. Buy this game if you want to enjoy the campaigns. I also recommend getting the DLC (onsale) its quite different from the main game but a good change.
