A.R.D. is basically a student-made clone of legendary FPS games:
Gameplay and movement = Doom.
The industrial setting and robotic voice-over = Portal/Half-Life.
Slow-motion cutscenes to introduce enemies = Borderlands.
Even though it just borrows mechanics from other games, at its core it's a fun, short experience, so it's not that big of a deal.
Fun aside, the main negative I have is the game's technical aspects.
If you play for a long time (around half an hour or more) the performance starts to degrade. I get a stable 144 FPS when I start the game, but as I progress, the framerate plummets to really low numbers like 50 FPS. This was especially noticeable during my endless attempts at the Bonewald speedrun achievement. I had to restart the game every once in a while, and the difference in performance was extremely noticeable.
Why does this happen? Possibly a memory leak issue?
Anyway, the technical problems don't end there. Every time I failed during the final boss fight and wanted to retry, there was always some kind of game-breaking bug. Once, the boss didn’t spawn at all, so I had to replay the entire game. Another time, the boss did spawn, but it got stuck inside its shield and no enemies appeared - so the game broke again and I had to start over.
6.5/10 – Apart from the technical issues, it’s a good game that clearly takes inspiration from popular franchises, but does it in a way that still feels somewhat original, even though it's a very short experience.
I really recommend it to achievement hunters. Pretty much all achievements are very easy, except for the Bonewald speedrun achievement (Alien Remover), which took me about 5 hours of mastering the course to finally get.

This is a fun little FPS. When taken as a free bit of entertainment there's a fairly slick and enjoyable experience to be had here, though it's really more of a demo taster than anything else.
Two weapons, two enemy types, some mildly tricky platforming in the style of Titanfall 2 / Doom Eternal, and one simple boss-battle, and it's done in around forty minutes. It shows off a pleasant level of ambition in the level design and controls quite smoothly.
Viewed through the lens of "it cost me nowt and I enjoyed it"...well, it cost me nowt, and I enjoyed it.
*You can ignore this bit, it's more for the developers*
But if these developers are looking to get into the industry then I'm not sure if this fairly short experience having a few bugs that should have easily been found and remedied puts them in good stead or not. They'd certainly fit right in with the average modern release, but for such a short run-time you'd think testing it thoroughly wouldn't have been an issue.
On the one hand: They done good, but on the other....Enemies sometimes stand around doing nothing. When I died to the boss it then wouldn't reappear on the next time it was loaded, and I had to restart through the level select.
This then meant that I didn't keep my secondary weapon and it made the fight much longer and tedious without it. The bigger issue is that it saved the game-state with such a noticeable glitch present.
Finally: Having died a couple of times I got a message about lowering the difficulty and it wouldn't disappear off of my screen or let me do anything with it. Just a couple of things that you should have paid more attention to, as even if this is just an unpaid demo showcasing your skills, the lack of polish gives a bad impression.
Not something I'm criticising this for as a freebie, but hopefully not traits you'll take into game-development if you pursue it as a job. Other than that: Pretty good effort!

First playthrough length was 23 minutes. 100% was achieved at 2.5 hours of playtime.
I really enjoyed this game personally. It's really fun and especially for the fact that it is completely free, play it. Genuinely just play it. No reason not to. If you're worried about the achievements, all of them work & the hardest achievement by far is beating The Bonewald segment in under 28 seconds, but it's reasonable once you have the route on lockdown.

I've been kind of on a binge playing free FPS games and this is one of them where I would totally pay for when they make the campaign a little bit longer. Really had a fun time with this one. Had to switch to easy mode on the end boss, but I typically suck at bosses, so this isn't new to me. Good job, guys. Hope to see more from you.

This is why I still play student projects. It was pretty entertaining and well made.
Movement is slick, shooting is fine, good little shooter to waste a few minutes.
