To the people saying that they are trying to scam us into buying agony unrated again.
READ THEIR NEWS FEED!
They told that had happened, explained the plan and apologized. Wether you were stupid enough to buy the game again regardless of this information means that you stupidly spent 1.87€ at 85% off for something you basically already had. OH NO! Think of the can of Bepis you could have bought instead! Grow up!
You guys are ruining the review statistics because of your own stupidity, GTFO!

Review from Steam

The game has very average gameplay with a lot of gore, sex, and demons thrown in between. It's an enjoyable story game to play on a really slow day. Played the game on release and it was a bit of a mess but they ended up fixing a lot of the issues that went wrong at launch. It's avery acceptable game at this point and shouldn't be taken seriously in the slightest.
Also to the people posting bad reviews because their "UNRATED" version got removed: That wasn't the developers fault. They literally said in a post for the game that Steam unlinked the versions for an undisclosed reason. Stop crying and leaving bad reviews and actually read game-related news updates. The UNRATED version will become a free DLC instead of a separate game soon to compensate for the content being taken away.
I also only have 0.8 hours on the base game because i only played the UNRATED version of the game once it became available.

Review from Steam

I was unsure whether to make it a positive or a negative one.. wish steam would allow neutral reviews already.
First off, I don't know anything about the crowdfund stuff, or the missing unrated for some.. I bought agony just two or so days ago and had the unrated DLC available for free, so.. dunno what the issue is there
the good
As for the game.. I Had fun. I like the art direction, kinda reminded me of Lust From Beyond.
The levels were surprisingly large, sound was ok too
the bad
Mind, I find it way easier listing stuff I disliked than stuff I liked.
It's not very well optimized. I have a strong rig but still had stutters every now and then and at a few point even the game pausing for 3 seconds, to load stuff I assume.
At the end of chp.1 I fought an optional boss. At the end of chp. 2 the game ended, credits rolled. Turns out there are 5 endings or so and fighting the optional boss provokes one that ends the game halfway through. And as you have no manual saves, you can just start from the beginning again. so.. well.. thanks.
Ice level. That's all.
Way too many collectibles. I mean, I don't mind them but there are so many.
Lack of explanation ingame. You have to google to find out that some areas are blocked off until you do a second playthrough.
And the story is pretty bad as well.
I'd recommend just going succubus mode from the start, which is more of a sightseeing mode.

One of my favorite game like succubus from madmind :)
i like to play as succubus, doing something or playing as human to survive in hell, escape the hell etc.

Review from Steam

This game has my favorite visual depiction of Hell I've ever seen. Beautiful game. Great sound design. It's a little on the confusing side, as the game is more or less one gigantic puzzle, but it's a fun ass puzzle. I get that there is some controversy around them doing away with Agony/Agony Unrated and now adding Unrated as a free DLC, but honestly I don't care because it's the same game once you add the DLC and I'm not caught up on the number of Steam games associated with my account. I still 100% recommend playing this game if you're into dark visuals and non-FPS horror games.

Review from Steam

This game has been collecting dust in my library for almost 3 years. For those who are bad at math - I bought this game back in 2019.
For three years, I installed it from time to time and tried to get through. But either I was too young and did not understand what the game wanted from me - or the game was really THEN very difficult for me. But I couldn't get past the "Courtroom". I just did not understand where to go, what I need to do. And how it all works!
Perhaps this will seem ridiculous. But in a game in which there is no elementary training, it does not work out in five seconds.
3 years have passed, and against the backdrop of modern problems and the ban on purchases in the Steam store, I decided that it was worth trying to replay those 8000 games that are already on the account.
Among them, of course, was Agony.
By the way, I quickly understood the mechanics of the game and was able to finish the first level (FIRST CARL !!!), in a record 4 hours for me.
The game turned out to be not the same as the description on the page in the store draws it. And even more so, not the way I imagined it.
The game has several modes. And if in the "martyr" mode - we have some kind of ephemeral goal, namely to get to the Red Queen and earn a ticket from Hell. Then in the Succubus mode - there is no history. From the word at all.
Let's start with the basics:
Playing for the "martyr" the player will be in the dark catacombs located on the first levels of the game. 80% of the time you will spend in pitch darkness. If you died, or you were killed by a Demon, then by upgrading your skills, you will be able to move into both sinners and demons.
Sounds pretty simple, but in reality the game doesn't explain which "sinners" are available to inhabit. And as it turned out by chance - in order to move in, you must first remove the bags from the heads of sinners. Only then the Spirit of the martyr will be able to move into the body.
The game is rather meager in terms of plot details - picking up notes, we don't really reveal the game's ENT - but also in terms of level details. The levels are made cheaply, kilometers of corridors with the texture of meat instead of walls and ceilings. Only sometimes there are majestic views for which you want to stop and capture them in the form of a screenshot. But there are only a few such places. For 15 hours of play.
From the "horror" genre, which the developers promised us - in fact the content is almost zero. Yes, we see violence and dark corridors. Yes - the first meetings with onoskelis, or other Demons make you panic. But further and further - the game simply forgets about the "horrors" and turns into an ordinary maze runner, where we must quickly find a way out of the maze of forks.
Also, officially - the game is curtailed. As stated by the developers - they removed the "SHOCK" content, as well as elements of eroticism. In fact, everything is much worse:
Yes, Mad Mind Studios removed the sinners' vaginas and nipples from their breasts. The babies were removed. But many textures have also been "cut down". After the colorful and detailed human models that we saw in the trailers, we are waiting for low-poly models in the game. Covered in textures that crumble and stretch when interacting with them.
In addition to the main content, additional content was also censored. materials, more precisely, only video - no one blurred anything in the images.
By the way, the Succubus - everything remained in place. Like the male genitalia of sinners. So censorship works selectively.
If in the "martyr mode" - we spent all the time in the dark, then by opening the "succubus mode" - we are given "hellish vision". This means only one thing - we no longer need a torch! Sounds wonderful! Until you exit the dark corridors of the first levels. And the picture starts to simply blind from an excess of white.
Also, in addition to vision, the player opens up "alternative paths" - which will give us new sensations! But in fact - we are moving along the same route along which we passed the company of the martyr. Only sometimes we can meet the doors to enter the "secret hall", or find a shortcut. Which often turns out to be longer than the usual path, and can bring nothing but a waste of time and nerves.
Pros:
+ Pretty bold game for its time.
+ Good soundtrack.
+ Previously, when buying the original game, the studio gave you a copy of the Unrated version.
+ Achievements
+ Difficulty
+ Semi-open world.
Minuses:
- Graphics
- Background sounds
- The presence of bugs and glitches
- Lack of training
Result:
The game of its time, which showed many developers that you should not be shy and hide your projects from view. Thanks to a good PR campaign and the fact that the game was on the lips of many, games like Lust were able to appear on sale.
I do not recommend this game to people who are looking for an easy ride with a minimum of problems.
The game is suitable for people who are willing to suffer for... nothing. Do you love complexity? Do you want to feel like in Hell?
Buy and don't hesitate! Moreover, the game is almost always sold at a big discount.

Review from Steam

So i feel the need to review this game since there seems to be three main types of complains about the game that seem unfair.
1. Reviews written by people who were probably expecting some doom eternal clone or something.....
2.Idiots(and i'm sorry but that's what they are) who posted negative reviews about the temporary removal of "Unrated" because they were intellectually unable to read the news feed from the devs at the time it happened. Specially the guy who left a negative review(and to use his own words) "as a record" of his own stupidiy since he clearly didn't read the first communication from the devs when it happened, in which they clearly explained it was not their decision but valve's. At no point did they expect to sell the game again and they said right from the begining they were working on it. There is no way you would have buyed the game again or have any reason to come to this review section whining about it if you had read those posts right from the begining...
3.There are also some reviews who talk about bugs and crashes, to which i say, i had no significant troubles with this game. No game breaking bugs, no crashes(not that i recall), nothing that made me want to crush my computer into pieces.
So for my review :
This game is more of a stealth/exploration/railroad/horror game. If i had to compare it to another game, i would say it's Alien isolation with a low budget.
So the idea is that you are a soul who falls into hell. You are not a hero trying to save someone or some bs of that sort, you are just a guy who starts his journey at the gates of hell. Mostly, the idea is to make you feel vulnerable and weak, so you are naked, you have generally no weapon, other than the torches made of bone that you'll sometimes find throughout your progression, and you will mostly spend your time avoiding contact and being stealthy while solving relatively easy puzzles. Since you have lost your memory, you can gather information about your character as you progress in order to figure out wtf you are doing in hell.
To be honest, the story didn't impress me at all, but to be fair there is not many games that ever blown my mind in terms of the story writing. The gameplay is definitely not revolutionary but it's not bad as long as you understand what type of game Agony is and is not.
Definitely not the best stealth game you'll play. Defensibly not the best horror game you'll play. Definitely an intense experience in terms of exploration and horrific visuals.
Some potential for "replayability" with the different modes(story, succubus). Maybe even potential for some speed running.
If you like the idea of taking a walk into a brutal depiction of hell, and if you can play a game without having the urge for big guns and constant action it's definitely worth trying. As of now, i think the price is about 15 Euros i think which is, in my opinion and if you understand what you are paying for, worth it. Worse case scenario just wait for the sales, maybe you can get it for less than 10 Euros.
