Age of Empires® III (2007)
Effective September 1, 2021, the multiplayer service for the 2007 version of Age of Empires III: Complete Collection currently on Steam will no longer function. The critical factor driving this change is that the ESO domain on which this multiplayer service currently resides is no longer under Microsoft’s control and it will be repurposed by its new owners on that date.
To continue accessing the multiplayer services: We have created a patch that points to a new backend owned by Microsoft that you must manually install prior to September 1, 2021. Due to the age of the title, we have no way to automatically apply the patch for you and you will have to come to our website download linked below to apply the patch manually. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
The AgeIIIESOPatch_Full will allow you to access multiplayer services without routing through the deprecated ESO service. It is important to install the patch for additional stability and reliability in the multiplayer environment and avoid issues accessing multiplayer matches. Download and install the patch manually from the official ageofempires.com website: yourself in the award-winning strategy experience. Microsoft Studios brings you three epic Age of Empires III games in one monumental collection for the first time. Command mighty European powers looking to explore new lands in the New World; or jump eastward to Asia and determine the outcome of its struggles for power.

They took this off the steam store, which i mean to be expected it got old, donno if writing a review is worth it or not but hey if you still own the original game here, what's up? :3 why you looking at reviews for an unplayable version of this game on steam (unless you still have it) regardless i'm glad you're here. the colonial aesthetic to this game has always been a fascination of mine, i was a big nerd for the american revolution as a kid simply because i thought Redcoats looked super cool, it's that child like awe for me i guess and this game was also the first AoE game i ever played (which shows cuz i suck at any other AoE) i remember messing around alot in like the scenario creator or whatever it was, just spawning in a bunch of units and making them fight eachother and that was alot of fun for me. i also remember playing this game against my stepdad and the rage and annoyance i felt when he would spam me with sheep and just end up maxing my pop cap. good memories, good nostalgia. i recommend no matter which version of the game it is. Thank you for your time and reading this. Have a good rest of your day.

A classic RTS with great colonial-era flair. Beautiful maps, strong factions, and the home city system keep battles varied and fun. Too bad it's no longer on steam.

ENG/CZ review/recenze
ENG:
I have over 100 hours of this game outside of Steam. Some grew up on the second part, but I still have the third in my heart. Although I like to play multiplayer, I have to admit that singleplayer is fun for many hours. Whether it's the campaign, which I think has a good story overall, or the skirmish, where you gradually level up and get better cards for your deck. Nowadays, it's definitely worth buying the definitive edition, which provides more options. But it would be a shame to forget the version that preceded the definitive version, so a big big up to the developers for this masterpiece.
Pros:
Graphics
multiplayer functionality
variety of units
quite a good story (in the campaign)
Cons:
irrelevant game considering the creation of the definitive edition
few players in multiplayer
optimization (experiences FPS drop with a larger number of units, specifically on a 1050 graphics card)
CZ:

Best game ever imo. The playtime 14 hours in steam is just after I purchased the game in Steam, but my playtime was way above that. This game has so much memories.

The colonial era combined with the classical music creates an atmosphere that pulls you in. The rock-paper-scissors -esque combat is fun and creates a jolly good challenge. The campaign creates great set pieces and Skirmish is fun for awhile. Sad that the multiplayer was shut down. Other than that, it's superior to the Definitive edition in many ways.

Excellent title. Maybe considered lesser than others in the series but still very well done and compares well to any RTS on the market.
I know the Definitive edition has released but OG still has several advantages. Yes, I would recommend DE for multiplayer, mods and the more comfortable ability to zoom out. But for just campaign mode OG should be fine. And it was decent, if fictional, campaign. Besides, ♥♥♥♥, my PC can barely run DE and this thing was top of the line in 2016.
Also, frankly, DE butchered the Warchief's Shadow campaign for some 'Politically Correct' ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Short version: wars are bloody and messy affairs. I liked the main character deciding he was fighting for the wrong side halfway through. The modern rewrite - god forbid a colonist or settler ever kills a native. Yeah, the history books all record our ancestors and getting along merrily.
I won't be ditching this edition anytime soon.
