Chasing Sunsets is a visually rich, emotionally layered visual novel that blends mature storytelling with evocative artwork and character-driven narrative design. Developed by Stone Fox Studios, the game stands out in the crowded genre of adult-oriented visual novels by focusing not only on romantic and sensual themes, but also on the psychological and emotional complexities of its characters. While the game certainly doesn't shy away from erotic content, it grounds these moments in a broader, carefully woven story about family, grief, relationships, and the pursuit of healing.
The narrative follows a protagonist who returns to his childhood home after the death of his estranged father, reuniting with his stepsister and confronting a long history of family tension, unresolved trauma, and emotional repression. What begins as a homecoming soon evolves into a deeply personal journey of reconciliation—not just with others, but within himself. The story unfolds through branching dialogues and choices, allowing the player to guide interactions with a wide cast of characters. These decisions impact both the immediate direction of scenes and the broader emotional tone of the game, offering multiple outcomes that encourage replayability.
What truly elevates Chasing Sunsets is the emotional authenticity of its characters. Each one is carefully written with their own backstory, motivations, and vulnerabilities. The dialogue feels natural and is often imbued with subtle emotional cues that reflect real-world complexities, particularly when dealing with sensitive subjects like grief, sibling dynamics, and romantic confusion. The game doesn’t fall into the trap of simplistic characterization or trope-heavy storytelling. Instead, it explores personal growth and emotional connection in a way that feels both mature and grounded, even when it leans into fantasy or eroticism.
Visually, the game is stunning. The hand-drawn character art is expressive and high-quality, and the backgrounds—ranging from cozy interiors to sunlit beaches—are rendered with vibrant detail. The use of lighting and color plays a significant role in setting mood, and the animations, while subtle, contribute to the immersive experience. Every frame feels thoughtfully constructed to enhance not just visual pleasure but emotional storytelling. The soundtrack is also notable, featuring soft, ambient pieces that underscore scenes without overwhelming them, supporting the game's overall tone of introspection and emotional depth.
Chasing Sunsets includes adult content, but it integrates it in a way that supports the narrative rather than distracts from it. Scenes of intimacy are contextualized by character development and emotional stakes, making them feel meaningful rather than gratuitous. This thoughtful approach helps differentiate the game from other titles that use erotic content as the primary draw. It instead presents sexuality as one part of a broader, more complex human experience, tied closely to themes of vulnerability, trust, and healing.
Gameplay-wise, Chasing Sunsets operates within the familiar bounds of the visual novel genre. There are dialogue options, branching paths, and choices that subtly alter relationship dynamics. While it doesn’t feature complex puzzles or mini-games, its strength lies in the impact of decision-making and how well it ties narrative progress to emotional investment. You’re not just making choices for the sake of unlocking content—you’re shaping a story that feels personal, where relationships evolve naturally based on the protagonist’s growth and the player’s guidance.
In conclusion, Chasing Sunsets is more than just another adult visual novel—it’s an emotionally resonant, artfully presented story that treats its characters and its players with respect. It combines beautiful visuals, a haunting soundtrack, and a thoughtfully written script to create a game that is as emotionally engaging as it is sensually immersive. For fans of character-driven narratives that explore mature themes with depth and nuance, Chasing Sunsets offers an experience that lingers long after the screen fades to black.

For "Chasing Sunsets," first and foremost, you have to be ready for more story than sex! If you're down for that, AND, down for some of the "family FUN" type genre, then you're probably going to LOVE this Adult Visual Novel (AVN)!
When this game first started, I almost thought I had bought a dud, because: the artwork for the introductory scenes--especially for the flashback scenes about Mom hooking up with Dad--these scenes' artwork was not just retro, but a tad too simplistic! Not very detailed at all! However, this fault began to progressively disappear as the story progressed. The further I got, the better the artwork became--by leaps and bounds, thankfully!
Although it took a while before, some lewd ACTION was introduced, this also became not just intriguing, but super sensual, too! HIGHLY EROTIC! This was produced with enough slow-burn sexual arousal, that with really OUTSTANDING artwork, the sex scenes were worth the wait!! And, because the story was so damn good, the balance of sex scenes verses story content became addictive! I found myself hooked by both the plot AND the sexual content. I mean this was HOT!!!
It's a LONG AVN, but there are a GOOD many Love Interests you can experience-some without negatively affecting the woman you end up choosing to pursue, but some flings, however, WILL ruin those relationships, so WATCH OUT! Save your game frequently, so you don't lose a LI you worked hard to pursue!
You know, however, when you start having to strategically be this careful with a story's progress, you're REALLY INVESTED!
"Chasing Sunsets" is probably a WAY BETTER AVN than some of what the AVN community have dubbed the Greats, like Being a **K, Leap of ****, Sisterly L**t, and so on. if any of these ring a bell for you and you liked them, don't cheat yourself! Give this one a chance, because it not only has HIGH REPLAY value, but will become one of your favorites, too! Truly--HIGHLY RECOMMENDED---DON'T MISS THIS!!!

Excellent story. The pacing is slow and a lot of teasing. This isn't a visual novel for quick and frequent sex scenes, but slow build up that will pay out in the end. The first hour or two was a bit hard to get through as it's just a very long flash back with not much happening and setting up the foundary of the long story. Everything is well written though and the story is high tier caliber that could easily be made into a movie and keeps you on your toes. There are plenty of choices and paths to take and the characters are well written and you can really feel their emotions. They aren't just prop pieces that are used for sex scenes. This is an AVN that everyone who likes AVN's should experience. Make sure you don't give up within the first 1-2 hours or however long the prologue (and parts of chapter 1) will last for you, the game gets so much better after that. This is one of those AVN's where you will mostly forget about the adult stuff and just want to know how the story and romances continue. It's that good.

Chasing Sunsets is one of the best adult visual novels of all time.
Leap of Faith and Chasing Sunsets truly do deserve a higher place than most.
And it goes the extra step in developing real world styled characters and conflicts.
If you are interested to check it out the genre, this is one of the best to check out.
If you ACTUALLY care about writing in a VN.

Chasing Sunsets is a rare gem. A game that highlights all the pillars of this genre's community, while also being a fantastic novel from start to finish.
If there was ever any doubt in whether if you should start your journey into this genre of games, I would insist that this game become the one you take the plunge with. It's filled with the best content that this incredibly wide genre has to offer, while also showcasing and nudging you towards hints of a greater universe, with cameos that perfectly blend in with the game as a whole.
An absolute showcase of community and storytelling that is so rare and hard to find.

Come for the lewds, stay for the story. This is a top-tier title, number 1 or 2 in my list. The story is very immersive, the character development is outstanding, and the graphics are top-notch. Choices matter in this game and a system is provided to show how your choices affect the 2 LIs, allowing you to adjust how you interact with them. This title is a keeper and is highly recommended.
I am looking forward to Firebreak, this Dev's next title.
