Chasing Sunsets is a visually rich, emotionally layered visual novel that blends mature storytelling with evocative artwork and character-driven narrative design. Developed by Stone Fox Studios, the game stands out in the crowded genre of adult-oriented visual novels by focusing not only on romantic and sensual themes, but also on the psychological and emotional complexities of its characters. While the game certainly doesn't shy away from erotic content, it grounds these moments in a broader, carefully woven story about family, grief, relationships, and the pursuit of healing.
The narrative follows a protagonist who returns to his childhood home after the death of his estranged father, reuniting with his stepsister and confronting a long history of family tension, unresolved trauma, and emotional repression. What begins as a homecoming soon evolves into a deeply personal journey of reconciliation—not just with others, but within himself. The story unfolds through branching dialogues and choices, allowing the player to guide interactions with a wide cast of characters. These decisions impact both the immediate direction of scenes and the broader emotional tone of the game, offering multiple outcomes that encourage replayability.
What truly elevates Chasing Sunsets is the emotional authenticity of its characters. Each one is carefully written with their own backstory, motivations, and vulnerabilities. The dialogue feels natural and is often imbued with subtle emotional cues that reflect real-world complexities, particularly when dealing with sensitive subjects like grief, sibling dynamics, and romantic confusion. The game doesn’t fall into the trap of simplistic characterization or trope-heavy storytelling. Instead, it explores personal growth and emotional connection in a way that feels both mature and grounded, even when it leans into fantasy or eroticism.
Visually, the game is stunning. The hand-drawn character art is expressive and high-quality, and the backgrounds—ranging from cozy interiors to sunlit beaches—are rendered with vibrant detail. The use of lighting and color plays a significant role in setting mood, and the animations, while subtle, contribute to the immersive experience. Every frame feels thoughtfully constructed to enhance not just visual pleasure but emotional storytelling. The soundtrack is also notable, featuring soft, ambient pieces that underscore scenes without overwhelming them, supporting the game's overall tone of introspection and emotional depth.
Chasing Sunsets includes adult content, but it integrates it in a way that supports the narrative rather than distracts from it. Scenes of intimacy are contextualized by character development and emotional stakes, making them feel meaningful rather than gratuitous. This thoughtful approach helps differentiate the game from other titles that use erotic content as the primary draw. It instead presents sexuality as one part of a broader, more complex human experience, tied closely to themes of vulnerability, trust, and healing.
Gameplay-wise, Chasing Sunsets operates within the familiar bounds of the visual novel genre. There are dialogue options, branching paths, and choices that subtly alter relationship dynamics. While it doesn’t feature complex puzzles or mini-games, its strength lies in the impact of decision-making and how well it ties narrative progress to emotional investment. You’re not just making choices for the sake of unlocking content—you’re shaping a story that feels personal, where relationships evolve naturally based on the protagonist’s growth and the player’s guidance.
In conclusion, Chasing Sunsets is more than just another adult visual novel—it’s an emotionally resonant, artfully presented story that treats its characters and its players with respect. It combines beautiful visuals, a haunting soundtrack, and a thoughtfully written script to create a game that is as emotionally engaging as it is sensually immersive. For fans of character-driven narratives that explore mature themes with depth and nuance, Chasing Sunsets offers an experience that lingers long after the screen fades to black.

REVIEW: The prologue was great, and top notch writing and execution of telling a back story. Most of the game is like this so far, and that is a testament to the writers. It feels like a movie, and the MC is like able and I can't wait to see what is next.
Description in one word: MEMORABLE!
Well it can't all be perfect it seems, but it comes damn close. The writing is Amazing.
Pro:
- Chapter length is well paced and well done, so many AVNs get this aspect wrong.
- Conclusions to chapters end with a nice cliff hanger or feeling of wanting to see more.
- Visually the renders look really good, so I can see they had really good artists.
- Writing is probably one of the best, for I literally feel connected to the 2 main ladies.
- The choices so far seem to matter, but it allows you to play as how you really think.
- The 3 ways of thinking is often neglected in AVNs, but it is evident here, passive, aggressive, cooperative.
- The women look really good and varied, and I have seen cameo appearances from other well written games.
- Still renders are really well done, and framing is also well done. Effective use of camera placement, and lighting is also well done.
- Music is also placed with love and care, and that is all I can say about that. I have it maxed all the time, totally worth listening as the story plays out.
- There are some powerful emotional scenes in this game, you will literally fall in love with the story. it is immersive even without a map to traverse, simply based on the choices and decisions.
Con:
- The first intimate animation I saw, the woman was like a blow up doll no life or movement at all. It does get a little better, but its not something to write home about especially with other AVNs doing more cutting edge animations. If they enhance this going forward, this company will be one of the greatest with awesome writing and cutting edge animations.
Post-Pro: What's funny the sex scene with both main girls was exactly what I am talking about below. Not sure why they could not make all the scenes as hot as those. As the chapters increase the scenes are much more organic into animations.
Thoughts: I keep telling developers to look at Seven Realms 2: High Lathion, it's not that you have to do a lot of animation it is how camera work is handled to give variety. In this game they do camera work very well, but it is on still images which is fine for the story and leading into the intimacy. High Lathion keeps the flow while dialog is happening once the intimacy is initiated. Race of Life is also a really well done AVN, with top notch use of animations and camera work. I simply comment with feedback for developers to improve. It does not have to be complex, simply come up with innovative ways to present your product in a more organic way. I did not connect well with the intimacy, but I connected well with the writing during the intimacy.

Haven't finished it yet, but it is so good!
The premise is a typical porn story, but with so much more depth. The story is definitelty the best part, even though the sex scenes are also a good reason to get this VN.
I have such a sad life...

I have played many adult story games, but this is one of the best written adult sex games that I have played in a very long time and should be added to any one’s game library. The background story and the choice of this game is captivating, excellently written and well thought out. The game consists of drama, suspense and down to earth real gut busting humor. The sex scenes and the story together complement one another, making the role-playing game more realistic to what really occurs in a real-life; when individuals care about one another, rather than just fulfilling a sex desire. If a player desires to cultivate some type of a lasting relationship with one or both primary female characters of the story. Think twice. You must work for it. My first play through, came to a quick end, halfway through the game when I was positively attempting to win the affection of both primary female characters. My second playthrough, I made to one of the story endings of this game. Although, I was happy to make it to one of story ending, I was also sad that I lost a role-playing relationship to accomplish this game ending that I did not expect to lose. Similar, to what occurs in real life, when we make choices, we don’t want to make. If you are into role playing, you will definitely… enjoy this game. If you are looking to having sex, every 60 seconds, this game is not for you. The game requires a level of adult male maturity and actual sexual experience, with real living females. Not a child in a man’s body, whose experience with females lies with their imaginary fantasy.

My favorite AVN on Steam - and that's saying a lot. I own an embarrassing number of AVNs. Great story. I don't know how many times this story has surprised me, touched my heart, and made me want more. Great visuals. Compelling characters. Great scenes. I really, really can't wait for the final chapters. Then again, I really, really don't want this to end. Hopefully, it spawns a sequel.

Chasing Sunsets is, without a doubt, the absolute BEST visual novel I've ever played. In my opinion it tops even Leap of Faith or Being a D*K. There are also wonderful cameos from both Leap of Faith and Artemis. The character facial animations are top notch, creating believable emotions. The game is hilarious and has actually made me laugh out loud, while it can also be emotionally raw; surprising for what many would consider a "lewd" game. The adult scenes are tastefully done and are not the whole point of the game. This isn't a "click as fast as you can to get to the next adult scene" kind of game. The story is great, the characters are believable and grounded, and the choices you make actually have a large impact on what kind of story plays out.
I've dumped almost 90 hours into this game playing through multiple times. It is my absolute favorite, and when the final epilogue is available - I'll probably play through again.
10/10 - Would HIGHLY recommend.
I cannot wait to see what new stories Stone Fox Studios has planned for the future.
