Edit
Garrett, the Master Thief, steps out of the shadows into the City. In this treacherous place, where the Baron’s Watch spreads a rising tide of fear and oppression, his skills are the only things he can trust. Even the most cautious citizens and their best-guarded possessions are not safe from his reach. As an uprising emerges, Garrett finds himself entangled in growing layers of conflict. Lead by Orion, the voice of the people, the tyrannized citizens will do everything they can to claim back the City from the Baron’s grasp. The revolution is inevitable. If Garrett doesn’t get involved, the streets will run red with blood and the City will tear itself apart.

This game is astonishingly underrated. It gets very bad rep on the internets as "not a real Thief game". And that's fair. People often compare it to Dishonored games, but Arkane clearly just made Thief 2.0 and this game is not that. It's not really Immersive Sim adjacent anymore. It's a cinematic adventure like Uncharted games. You just don't play as easygoing Drake, you plays as gloomy Garret, so you do not shoot people in the face but hide in the shadows and rob houses. If you approach it like that, the game has plenty to give.
First, it's a proper AAA game. Environments look gorgeous, great art, very detailed. Cutscenes are very high quality and very well acted. That goes for voice acting too, all voice actors are very good.
Movement mechanics are very intuitive, moving around feels great. Stealth is still there, you hide in the shadows, you take out guards and hide their bodies and of course you take other people stuff. There are a lot more scripted moments but with that comes cinematic feel. The City is full of nooks and crannies that are just fun to explore, if you so inclined. There are notes, overheard dialogs etc., all adds to atmosphere greatly. The game just feels better if you take your time and do not rush forward.
The main story probably is not most original but it told well and you always interested what's gonna happen next. Overall game just has good moody atmosphere that considerably adds to immersion.
I played the original trilogy already and didn't expect much from the reboot but was very pleasantly surprised.
Thief Reboot is very much worth your time.

A reboot that layers modern presentation and audio onto the old philosophy. The tactile feel is strong and the systemic depth is thin. It works well for newcomers while leaving core fans a bit unsatisfied.

I hate that the only revival we got of this game is with a VR port.
Great game, someone remember this IP exists please and start doing something with it other than a VR port.
Maybe a remaster? Maybe a remake? ANYTHING?!

underrated and misunderstood. it's incredible visually, with great dialogues and cinematic direction. it's grim dark fantasy that feels very safe and comfortable somehow. probably ended up being ahead of its time with a story about lockdown. but who knew. who knew. my explanation is the game was too moody for a general audience. it took a step into Lovecraft territory, and that was always a niche theme.
stealth is fine. could be more elegant, but at least there are no annoying things. i like the idea of making the city a suffocating claustrophobic maze. the only complaint is that exploration is not very rewarding in any sense, and there is no excuse for that.
ironic that classic Thief games walked so Dishonored games could run, and the new Thief ran with Dishonored in mind. but in the end, they're both dead.

Recommendation: 50%
Just wasted potential, unfortunately.
An incredible atmosphere of a dark city filled with monsters, mystery, and a master thief as the main character. The gameplay is also decent.
But the story and characters are just a joke. It’s unclear where things start and where they end, there’s no attachment to the characters, and no real explanation of what’s going on. Feels like the rules and logic of this world are explained in older games from 20+ years ago.
I still gave it a thumbs up simply because it was а pleasure to be in this world — walking through these mystical locations felt good. But it’s a shame that such a great setting ends up feeling meaningless

guys im gonna be honest I think people were too harsh on this game
ever since this game came out I have heard basically nothing good about it, and after actually playing it myself its actually pretty good, not revolutionary or anything still like a solid 7/10 at best. I remember that most of the hate for this game was because it just didn't hold up when compared to the original 2 thief games which is completely valid but beyond that im really not sure what was so horrible about this game.
The stealth is great its got good depth and im a sucker for light based stealth and this is done quite well with a good amount of tools and was pleasantly surprised that this game is way more stealth heavy, since this very easily could have been a dishonoured clone and gone a full stealth action route, but it didn't they had the balls to make this a full on stealth game if you get spotted you run if you try to fight you will die, I love this and it makes sense since you aren't a world class assassin you're some dude who's good at stealing ♥♥♥♥.
Speaking of stealing, this might be weird to say but its probably my favourite part of the game, its absurdly satisfying, breaking into a house or building and slipping past guards and searching every drawer and cupboard for even an ounce of gold or silver, it tickles my brain in the same way something like payday does.
The story is decent its not gonna win any awards but its enough to keep you interested.
and the environments are really fantastic as well the levels are super well designed both visually and gameplay flow wise. And parts in between main missions where you get to watch the city slowly devolve and chaos take over as more of the story unfolds is awesome to see.
Now this game isn't without problems, a big problem is very likely just a technical limitation and is mostly and issue in the free roam city, but there's so many loading screen gates there's 3 different chunks of the city to explore and each chunk is divided even further and if you want to travel in between any of said chunks you have to go to specific areas and go through a loading screen which is incredibly tedious and makes the city a pain to move through after even a couple of chapters. And it does have its fair share of jank in places thankfully its not game breaking but it can be frustrating at times.
overall I think this game was judged way too harshly and judging by some of the other recent reviews it seems im not the only one who thinks that way.
If you need a good stealth and or stealing fix get this game on sale you can do worse for like $3

A stealth-focused adventure that rewards patience, clever planning, and careful exploration. Sneaking through the shadows as Garrett is satisfying, and the dark atmosphere captures the spirit of a master thief. While it delivers tense stealth gameplay, it doesn't always live up to the legacy of the series.
+ Immersive stealth mechanics and atmospheric world
+ Excellent level design with multiple paths to explore
– Story is forgettable and characters lack depth
– Some gameplay mechanics feel outdated and repetitive
7.5/10 – A good stealth game, but not the masterpiece it could have been.
