The player guides an unnamed boy through dangerous environments and traps as he searches for his sister. The developer built the game's puzzles expecting the player to fail before finding the correct solution. Playdead called the style of play "trial and death", and used gruesome imagery for the boy's deaths to steer the player from unworkable solutions.

Dark, disturbing, yet eerily beautiful, Limbo is a world that deserves to be explored.

Minimalist yet haunting. Smart puzzles, tight controls, and a chilling atmosphere that sticks with you after the credits. Short but memorable. A must-play if you appreciate mood and design over dialogue.

I spent countless hours with this game as a kid, and replaying it now still brings back that same joy.

LIMBO is a short but powerful experience: a black-and-white puzzle platformer that stands out for its dark atmosphere and silent storytelling.

I truly love how eerie, gloomy and unsettling the game is. I appreciate that it doesn't hold your hand and challenges your brain despite its simple mechanics. During the first blind run some puzzles may seem easier than others; you might predict what's coming, but then the next step offers another surprise.
It was one of those games that had been lingering on my watch list for ages and ignited the spark at the right time. I wouldn't be surprised if Limbo was created by the spawn of the devil because it's passionate and quite humiliating. The secret level was the cherry on top. Every minute was amazing.

Limbo has a way of capturing someone’s attention without any context or doing anything special. I remember being glued to the PS3 version, the same is happening today with the Steam version. Not only is the style striking, but a lot is happening at a rapid pace. You need to pay attention to the environments if you want to stay alive for long. Here also lies strength as the game is very good about little details and cues to warn you of potential dangers. Sound effects, lighting and random moving objects are used to teach a player without using words. There is even a secret level that is almost entirely done in darkness but it somehow works due to mentioned examples. The controls are easy to grasp and they’re responsive enough for this to not get in the way. The game is long enough to keep your attention and knows when to end things before it becomes repetitive. There is also a very good checkpoint system so you don’t have to repeat previous sections once you’ve had them. The game has some simple yet good puzzles.
On the other hand, the game is really bad about telling a story. You see some weird and interesting things happening around you but no context is provided at all, finding all the collectibles doesn’t provide anything to help with this. The game’s resolution doesn’t seem to be above 720p natively, it looks fairly blurry on a 1440p monitor even though it’s hidden better compared to other games. I am willing to accept this shortcoming if it only affects the visuals, the issue comes from the graphics affecting some rare puzzles when things are not clear enough due to the lack of sharpness. Like for instance not being able to tell there is a rope you can hold on to or a button you can press for a puzzle.
Limbo is worthy of being a classic. I definitely recommend giving it a shot, especially with it often being on sale. It’s not a perfect game and its age is showing at times but not many games do what this one does. It took me less than 5 hours to finish it and get most of the achievements except for one that involves finishing the game with max 5 deaths. The rest is very doable.

Title: Limbo
Summary: 2D puzzle platformer game
Personal notes: Limbo is a cute but dark puzzle platformer game with a unique art-style. A lot of the story is open ended and more so up to interpretation but it is well done and I was intrigued the whole way, the first time at least. I think the game-play is pretty standard for most puzzle platformer's but where this game shines honestly is it's art direction. The art style, sound design and overall world design is really well done. It is a pretty simplistic style but I feel like it really captures the feeling of the story. Despite this games age, I think it still holds up pretty well today. Achievement wise, this game isn't super crazy but most of the achievements are out of the way (requiring you to find hidden "easter" eggs) and one is a 5 and under death run. I would recommend practising the ending section of the game before attempting this or any part you struggle on, mine was the end which resulted in a few play-through's lol. All in all this game is a short but fun and unique game that I think is pretty worth the asking price. I grabbed it on sale so you could also wait for that. :P
