About the SoftwareXSOverlay is a Desktop Overlay application for OpenVR. This means that you can access your desktop, or specific applications, and interact with them however you’d like to.
Steam User 3
XS Overlay has a easier interface and uses less computer power than something like OVR Toolkit. I find it to be delightful when setting up for a live stream as rather than fight with other tools to behave.
Steam User 3
XSOverlay is currently the best overlay for vr comparing it to the other overlay apps like OVR Toolkit
XSOverlay has everything that you need
-Well optimized
-Standard time and date
-Media controls
-Performance monitoring
-Controller and tracker battery monitoring
-Preset layouts for your overlay windows
-Lots of settings for accessibility and customization
Having used OVR toolkit years back and having tried it every once in a while since then to see if its improved enough to compete with XSOverlay with 300+ hours i always come back to XSOverlay instantly and i dont see anything changing in the near future ALSO XSOverlay has some fun easter eggs so thats a fun little extra on top
Steam User 4
* Desktop control
* Media control
* Performance metrics
* Battery tracking
If you're streaming, playing flatscreen games, optimizing performance, or using FBT, this is essential. Valve should buy this and make it a default part of SteamVR. It doesn't quite replicate ALL of the features of OVR Toolkit, OVR Advanced Settings, and FPSvr but it's pretty close and this should be your first purchase before trying out other solutions
Steam User 3
XS is a pretty good OVR Toolkit alternative.
It's lightweight
It doesn't tank my performance like OVR does sometimes
The wristwatch is more fun
My only issue is the unresponsive touch input, i need to hold my trigger for half a second to click or sometimes i can just tap it. wtf?
Steam User 2
i think that this overlay is what i expected it to be, it is fantastic though my only gripe is that my media player will bug out and only show one song after using it for an extended period of time with no way to fix it other than having to restart the overlay completely.
Steam User 2
Overall a good piece of software for checking your monitors, your performance, and music control. I also like how it is on the wrist and has a bunch of customization settings. However, this software also comes with some bugs, like sometimes not being able to launch it, sometimes not being able to move windows, causing crashes with Steamvr, reading performance stats incorrectly, and more.
This has been a great software for quality of life, when it works. I'd say if you want it, you should go for it and get it, but there may be better alternatives out there until some of the bugs get fixed.
Steam User 1
very good if you want to be able to have a thing to control media and be able to have interactable windows from your computer i would recomend it if you want something for that
