Empires Apart is similar to AOM to some extent, including game play and war setting, but has limited functions and worse graphics.

How to Play Empires Apart: A Beginner’s Guide
Empires Apart is a real-time strategy (RTS) game that puts players in control of historical civilizations, each with unique units and abilities. To start, players must gather resources such as food, wood, gold, and stone, which are essential for building structures and training troops. Villagers are the backbone of the economy, so assigning them to gather resources efficiently is crucial. Constructing houses increases population capacity, while military buildings allow the recruitment of different unit types. Exploring the map is vital for finding additional resources and enemy locations, making scouts an important early-game unit. Players must balance economy and military growth, as a strong economy ensures a powerful army later. Advancing through ages unlocks better technology and stronger units, making strategic upgrades a key part of success. Defensive structures like walls and towers help protect a base from early aggression. Mastering resource management and early-game development sets the foundation for victory.
Combat in Empires Apart requires careful planning and unit composition, as different units counter specific enemy types. Infantry are strong against archers but weak against cavalry, while siege weapons are essential for destroying enemy fortifications. Positioning matters greatly, as using the terrain and chokepoints can give an advantage in battle. Upgrading units through research in military buildings improves their effectiveness and survivability. Micromanaging units during battles by using hit-and-run tactics and formations can turn the tide of a fight. Expanding to control more resource points ensures a steady supply of materials to sustain an army. Diplomacy and alliances can be useful in team games, but betrayals and strategic deception are also part of the experience. Keeping an eye on the enemy’s movements and adapting strategies accordingly is key to maintaining an edge. By focusing on smart engagements and efficient army production, players can dominate the battlefield.
Winning in Empires Apart involves a combination of economic strength, military strategy, and adaptability. Players must not only react to their opponent’s actions but also anticipate future threats and opportunities. Managing multiple tasks efficiently, such as training villagers while commanding armies, is a skill that improves with practice. Controlling the center of the map and key resource points can put pressure on opponents and limit their expansion. Utilizing civilization-specific bonuses and unique units effectively can turn the tide of battle in unexpected ways. Maintaining a balanced army ensures readiness for different types of enemy attacks and strategies. Late-game battles often come down to resource control and unit composition, so efficient management is crucial. Developing a flexible approach to strategy allows players to counter enemy tactics and seize opportunities as they arise. Mastering the mechanics and strategic depth of Empires Apart will lead to more victories and a more enjoyable gameplay experience.

i give it an upvote to support the genre, but don't bother. Just play AoE4 instead.

It has/had a lot of potential, though I do think there needs to be some campaign content and a handful more daily quests (or a weekly/monthly set too). Already died a slow death by now but there's always a handful of people playing on and off.
Pros:
- Freemium (also a con, but I'll mention positives) - you can eventually earn all the 7 civilizations playing solo/coop skirmish or online pvp via lootboxes you can farm daily and per account level (infinite, but increasingly slow), can outright buy the factions and skip the random lootboxes (or buy the lootboxes). Comes with all game content aside from faction choices as part of the package, as well as the Byzantine/Greek civ iirc.
- AoE2like but with it's own technology pathway - "Age ups" instead split into a tier 1/2 eco line and a tier 1/2 military line. Basically has the market trade system AoEIV has (and is older) funnily enough
- Great controls - on par with the AOE Definitive releases, AoEO and Starcraft 2 for default hotkeys, units generally path really well
- Audio - while limited, feels really polished and fitting. Game themes, sound effects, character VA
- Building AND unit names are in their native name (or closest translation) - usually limited to units in AoE games
Cons:
Freemium (see above for pros to this) - feel a bit nickle-and-dimed by the randomness to unlocking factions you can be pushed to pay for, can also buy the same lootboxes you're grinding for. Probably wouldn't be so bad if there was a little more quests to do and/or some randomness to them in order to unlock stuff.
No campaign and no map editor - I've put 3k hours into PvPing in an RTS too small to make a living from and I still think campaigns or an official scenario set along with a map editor or mod editor are a must have for 95% of casual players. Eventually skirmish gets old even with an extensive map pool and many mode settings.
Relatively small map pool and water units are underused due to only 1 water map with no fishing from what I can remember.
Overall I recommend, but only just. Mostly out of a desire to see the devs put a bit of effort into avoiding this being just like War party was, and like Stormgate eventually will be ;)
