The Dwarves
The Dwarves is a fantasy role-playing game with a strong story and tactically challenging real-time battles. 15 playable heroes, each with individual skills, are to be deployed cleverly. Take on superior numbers of orcs, ogres, älfs, bögnilim, zombies, dark mages and many more foes, to give them the low-down. Based on the bestselling novel “The Dwarves” by Markus Heitz you’ll experience a fascinating tale revolving around the coolest fantasy race ever: The Dwarves! Tactical real-time battles: You’re fighting hundreds of foes with just a handfull of heroes. You can pause anytime to tactically plan the next smart move. Crowd Combat: All creatures on the battlefield are rendered with physical complexity – that’s why the battles feel especially dynamic and “real”, and enabling a lot of tactical finesse.

I can say i loved the story, The art work, the music. But there are so many bugs i found in the game. npc's stuck in T pose. The controls are horrible. Like it felt like i should have more control over my character but somewhere down the line they changed the controls. Because the right click to move and then use an ability and left click. It did not always work or you are marked for action to your left and your guy swings to the right. I mean i cursed a lot at this game. But what kept me going was wanting to know what happens next and also the narration. Thank you for narrating the whole game and not just main stuff. I would still play Dwarves 2 when ever it comes out. So i am going to keep an eye out. But please for the love of god FIX THE CONTROLS!!

I must say if you like DND and love dwarves. This is the game for you. The story can be somewhat hard to follow, but the story building is fantastic and so is the Combat. 10/10 would Oink, Oink again to any orc.

A little clunky at times, but a good length for casual gaming and worth picking up

The game is alright. The combat is fine but very tedious. Most games allow you to use items before and during battle, but this game limits each character to only one item per battle, seriously kneecapping the game. And while the game is an action rpg during combat, you're going to be stuck pausing constantly and micromanaging everyone and everything throughout battle.
These unusual game choices are felt in later battles when you're required to do back to back fighting segments and can't heal your characters between them.
The characters are alright as well. None of them are going to blow your socks off and some of them are more fleshed out than others. With the amount of characters you acquire during your adventure, it would have been nice if there would have been more interactions in the game with them.
The first two-thirds of the game have a good pace, introduces you well into this world, decent fights, etc. Then the last third drops the ball. The ending feels rushed. My guess is the developers ran out of time/resources and had to cut a lot of content to get the game finished which is disappointing.
Overall, I would recommend the game if you're just looking for a relatively short RPG. If you can look past the tedious combat system and the lack of item usage, you can have a decent time. But, if you're looking for a grand adventure with meaningful choices, this isn't it.

The Dwarves aren't a big game, and that's allright. I really liked the way the narration was executed, you can clearly see the book it is based on. The characters are interesting, and there are some minor choices here and there.
I enjoyed the combat, it was fun. The heroes' abilities are executed awesomely, and you really have to focus on tactics sometimes so you don't get cut down.
I ran into one bug, I had to reload because my save got corrupted, which ruined the impression a bit for me.
A special plus is the cult band Blind Guardian who recorded a song for the game, and there is even a mini-quest included that serves as a homage to them.
The dwarves were cool, it has flaws, and it isn't for everyone, but my general rating is a seven.

Besides some bugs here and there, this game is AMAZING! I love the story, the characters, everything! The game is just an absolute joy to behold and I can say with great pride that this is one of my most favourite games ever! Every moment that I played, I was like "I'll just play a little more before going to bed" and I would look up at the clock and 2 hours would go by in the blink of an eye. It is just that addictive because it is just that good! I'm not going to give you any spoilers. This is a game that you need to experience for yourself.
I can't believe that I had this game in my library for under 10 years all because I seen a youtuber, Splattercatgaming, play the amazing game. I don't think he completed the game so I had to finally play it for myself. So much time had already passed and ever since then, him playing it held a very fond memory for me that I only just lived through. And after all this time, you'd think the game would be dated but no! It still holds up!!!
I need there to be a 2nd game of this! There has to be a 2nd game that gets made! The only sadness that this game brings me is that I have now played this game for the first time and so I'd never get that amazing feeling again from playing it for the first time. I can only hope that I forget overtime so I can relive the adventure in the game all over again. But with how amazing this game is, I don't think I'll forget about it anytime soon. If I remember it so fondly for over under 10 years from a YouTuber playing it then I don't think I'll forget about it for the next 10 years either after playing it.
Thank you everyone who made this amazing game possible. You have my eternal gratitude for this masterpiece of a game.

It was far better than I imagined ! The culture/style of the Dwarves, the story, the voice-acting, and also the combat animations and design are all very high quality! In fact, the visuals/graphics seem better than the other games made by the same studio. And I forgot to mention a glorious soundtrack!
Difficulty
There are 4 difficulty settings and I played on Medium, which is the 3rd. Medium difficulty is challenging and some combat events are rather hard, so you need to pause the game (spacebar) and use your combat skills properly (some skills can cause damage to allies). I do a lot of micro-managing in real-time combat games and I was playing this one as if it were turn-based (pausing every 2 seconds or so). You need to control all characters in combat really. I had to restart a few battles! I like a challenge and having some companions fall is not too punishing (they are Wounded, but not killed).
Bugs ?
Issues reported years ago have been fixed. I did encounter 3 bugs:
- I restarted one small fight because one enemy got stuck in the terrain (the goal was to kill 30... and I was stuck at 29) ;
- In an important battle, I could no longer use my skills for a few hot seconds (no impact really) ;
- In a final combat scene, my character could no longer be controlled. I simply loaded the autosave (the game always makes a save just before combat) and everything was fine. So I lost only 1 minute really.
Time
It took me 21 hours playing fully and cautiously. Most claim to finish in less than 10 hours: go figure.
Final verdict
The story is great, with tragic moments and some RPG decisions to make, and fans of fantasy Dwarves should love it !
