When you develop a game with pure love and passion, you get Lego City Undercover.
An engaging story, creative gameplay, tons of vehicles and characters to choose from, all engulfed by a massive open world full of side missions, minigames and collectibles. Despite being a game mainly targeted at a younger audience, the dialogues and comedy are a lot of times fun and hilarious even to adults, in a very playful and healthy way.
The game has some flaws such as bugs (as usual with Lego games), the combat, despite being innovative and with cool animations compared to preceding Lego games, gets stale very quickly and is too strict (the game forces you to perform a finisher on the final enemy in groups 90% of the time) which is not difficult, just annoying and slow. I even prefer combat from the PS2 era of Lego games more than this just because you are in control and can demolish enemies quicker (although I do appreciate this game not respawning enemies like in older titles, yes I'm talking to you Lego Star Wars).
Levels in this game are all unique and each have their own vibes, however, I am not a big fan of them. They are missing that "instant classic" energy that the previous titles have, but then again, if you asked me what I would do to change the levels, I wouldn't know. They are well made, so this is just my personal experience.
Where this game excels is the open world content. If you only finish the main story then uninstall the game, you really haven't seen anything. Super creative parkour schemes that the game makes you use your brain for to discover how to climb to a certain point etc. Missions, blueprints, secret collectibles all define this game as an unforgettable experience for me, and I don't regret spending 80 hours on getting every achievement. Fully recommend.

Literally GTA V for kids, in the most respectful way. The humor is expectedly juvenile from a LEGO game and can be hit or miss, but there are a few good ones in there. The map is massive and filled with different tasks to complete outside of the story stuff, so exploration can be fun and rewarding, and the co-op works great.

You can beat the PC port of this game in the time it takes the original Wii U version to load.

GRAND THEFT LEGO: BLOCK CITY
Imagine being able to play GTA, but from the perspective of a cop, set in a LEGO world, using a variety of everyday skills from different professions. LEGO City Undercover gives you a clear idea of this concept. As Chase McCain, undercover, you'll gradually pick up new skills and dig deeper to track down Rex Fury. Along the way, you'll uncover plenty of secrets and meet a bunch of helpers in LEGO City!
What’s great?
One thing the game definitely delivers is variety. Contrary to what you might expect from a typical police routine, Chase is a total jack-of-all-trades. Firefighter, miner, construction worker all in one, and still skillfully juggling a crowbar to catch a thief? Under your control, Chase can handle any obstacle. These abilities really make both your logic and imagination work full throttle, whether you’re solving puzzles or chasing down a criminal. There are deliveries, chases, fights, and much more!
High-quality voice acting. Pyotr Glantz absolutely kills it in the Russian localization.
Humor. The game doesn’t dive into gross-out crap and isn’t annoying.
Co-op mode. We’ll talk more about this later, but playing solo takes longer. However, if you have a buddy or a girlfriend around, the game goes twice as fast.
So why am I giving it only 3 stars, or why is it a bit of an acquired taste?
Lengthiness. This applies to pretty much everything in the game – story missions, movement speed of vehicles and the character. The trailer promises a fun, harmless action game, but the game actually feels like "when will this end" already in the first quarter of the story. The focus isn’t on fights or puzzles, but on constantly switching character abilities, exploring every corner, hitting everything that crumbles into Lego blocks, and rebuilding it into the right object. It’s far from fun, even in the first few minutes of gameplay.
It's clear that the game is aimed at kids, but it gets repetitive in every single task! And for complete statistics, most abilities will be locked as you progress through the story. You have to backtrack and replay big chunks of areas not for replay value, but to collect different coins and other useless 'secrets.'
No way to save. If you need to exit the game, your progress will roll back to the last checkpoint, meaning you have to start again from the police station.
Graphics. The game looks kind of meh in places. Pixels are often visible and the image is constantly blurry—even on the highest settings.
Sparse content. Like most games, players will probably shut it down after the credits and forget about it. Why? Because the open world of LEGO City in this game offers the same collectible items, which sometimes even the locator or scanner can't help you find. And don't get me started on the heights, rooftops, and hidden corners you need to climb into. The same parkour challenges, aside from races or cool builds, are basically just stripped-down versions of story missions, plus you get the constant respawn of blocks and coins. You can't clear a location completely — after a short while, everything you collected reappears.
Long loading screens. Sometimes it feels like the developers are purposely showing Frank Meduck's face for a full 15 seconds. I get it — it's all a console port, so loading takes time, but come on, this is a 2017 game, and even on powerful PCs you still see it.
Awkward vehicle controls. Speaking of GTA, here’s the devil in the details. Controlling cars and flying vehicles isn’t exactly hard, but sometimes it’s not even clear from the in-game hints where and how you’re supposed to press things. And some, like me, might think that, for example, during story missions, if you crash into a wall—you can't reverse, and you have to start all over.
Not enough problems with the console port? Finally, you get a stripped-down, kind of annoying, basic combat system. You can’t throw enemies where you want. Some of them just don’t take damage at all, and some “die” just from being grabbed. I get that LEGO is supposed to be family-friendly, but the mini cutscenes with pretty lousy finishing moves can’t be skipped, and during the story you just want to avoid fights because they’re so poorly done.
For me, this game isn’t a “childhood classic.” I wouldn’t say it’s super exciting or only for LEGO fans. It just exists. And that’s it.

The best Lego game of all time with massive original story and memorable characters. Many jokes and lines will be forever stuck in my head. It's challenging sometimes but in a positive way. I will never get tired of it. A game that is never being uninstalled from my PC. I love it with my whole heart.

The humor is peak lego style and its the gta of TT games (of course you play as a cop, trevor wouldn't fit well in the lego universe). The 100% achievement hunt is basically made of collectibles, but thats kind of the point, sit back and appreciate the throwback to childhood.

this game is if the lego movie was dipped in gold, polished, aged like fine wine, and mixed with GTA V. absolute cinema
