The Silent Kingdom
The Silent Kingdom is a story-driven, otome RPG where player’s choices and interactions with other characters set the narrative.
The free demo available on Steam contains the Chapter 0 – Prologue. If you would like to see the full game, please support the Kickstarter campaign.
Place yourself in the role of Princess Erinys, whose kingdom has fallen under the yoke of a sorrowful curse. In order to save everything you have ever known and loved, you’ll have to stand against the entire world – and even defy the Goddess herself.
How much weight will a withered kingdom burden your soul? As a princess, will you be loved or hated, betrayer or betrayed? Will you seek comfort in the companionship of others, or will the demise of your kingdom seal your heart away forever?
A path of thorns is waiting. The manner in which you walk it is up to you.
- A main character that’s defined, yet mouldable to your taste.
Princess Erinys is an established protagonist with both a background and a fundamental personality of her own; yet it is ultimately for you to decide just who she is and what she will become in this world. As the player, you’ll be free to choose the way she speaks to and perceives others, decide on her thoughts and emotions regarding various different events, and even select your own preferred name for her if you so wish. Every decision that falls into her hands – large or small – ultimately falls into yours.
- Roleplay experience.
Apart from the most impactful decisions in the story, many dialogue interactions will also contain choices that merely focus on immersion, allowing the player to establish exactly the kind of personality and emotions that they wish to give their princess. There is never any “correct” answer when it comes to interacting with others, just different answers.
- Romance.
The princess will have the ability to develop bonds and even romantic relationships with either of the two companion characters she’ll travel with. Although not required in order to see the story to its completion, the relationships you forge with other characters will play a pivotal role in its development.
*Please note: Pending the success of the Kickstarter campaign, it is the author’s intent to add one additional character to the roster of romanceable characters.
- Dark and emotional story.
In this world where every conflict and resolution are bathed in various shades of grey, tragedies and souls stained by corruption arise one after another. Will the princess question her own morality? Will narcissism and lust for power replace faithful bonds to become her most loyal companions? And from what prism will she judge the sins of others?
- In English and Spanish. Choose the language from the options menu.
- Length of the prologue: An hour and twenty minutes approximately.

WOW, what an amazing gem! The first episode already starts off amazingly. Every aspect of this game has impressed me so much and exceeded my expectations — and I’m not even making this up.
I highly recommend this game not only to otome fans but to all JRPG fans as well. I can't wait for more! ❤

Wow, this is certainly one of the best otome games I have played and the story is not even complete yet. Not only is the plot intriguing and full of twists that don't feel forced, the two LIs are also very well done so much so that I was genuinely unsure who to focus on (I went first with Seneca because I am a sucker for the mysterious, cheeky types, sue me). The story doesn't shy away from exploring complex themes involving war, treachery and sacrifice all of which are tied neatly together with time loops and magical escapades. The story does get pretty dark occassionally despite it's mostly cute artstyle.
Apart from that, there are a lot of nooks and crannies that we can explore in the maps and most dialogue choices actually affect the story in significant ways, leading to unexpected and sometimes intricate moments that are completely missable. This lends a lot of replayability to the game and I am looking forward to seeing how all the alternate choices will affect the story in my subsequent playthroughs.
The art is also sooo good and it reminds me a bit of Fire Emblem Three Houses. I hope in the final version, there can be a gallery where we can view all the CG art.
Overall, I'm so glad that I discovered this game during the summer sale and I can't wait to play the next chapter of Princess Erinys' story. It is astonishing that this is being developed by a single dev and I wish them the best. Please take as much time as needed to finish the game because this genuinely has a lot of potential and will undoubtedly gain a lot of attention when it is fully finished.

I never write game reviews, but I could not stand the injustice of this absolute gem being so unseen. I'm still riding the high from finishing both available routes, so sorry for the essay!
TL;DR: One of the best-written romance games I’ve played, and they bless us with A LOT of quality CGs. If you’re here JUST for the JRPG elements though, maybe hold off a bit. Also note that only the first “chapter” is out, so the story isn’t complete yet. But what’s available now is 100% worth your time and money!
Story
Dark, melancholic, and gripping without being edgy or convoluted. I love that it actually commits to the heavier theme - the MC faces hard choices, with none of the cheap “love fixes everything” cop-outs.
Characters
I love a strong MC, and this one is no exception. She's as stubborn, vulnerable, cruel, or merciful as you want her to be - without losing sight of her goals or core personality. This game almost feels like a spin-off showing "the Villaness' POV" and humanizing/justifying her actions under terrible circumstances, rather than playing as an objectively "good" person.
I am so so so picky when it comes to LIs, but I'm completely smitten with both of the current ones, for completely different reasons. They are both so perfectly angsty and charming. Seneca has fully burrowed into my brain.
Dialogue/Romance
I am entirely enamored with the amount of love and detail that has clearly gone into this game. For example, you can say/do something seemingly minor, and characters may reference that choice in later dialogue. For anyone that is familiar with VNs or decision-heavy games in general, you'll note that 99% of your decisions are essentially in a vacuum and immediately converge - making the process feel like a railroaded illusion of choice. This game however, has a bunch of little branches and flags that truly make you feel like you're interacting and impacting these characters and the world.
The romance dialogue in-particular had me enraptured. It's a little on the spicier side (which is so great to see in an otome), and the bittersweet tension in every line was palpable. Descriptions of the characters' subtle actions and expression shifts within a conversation had me fully immersed. The dev also blesses us with frequent quality CGs!
Gameplay
A refreshing change from the usual VN format with the addition of JRPG elements. Exploring the world is fun and helps break up the text. The JRPG side is light right now - no real skill/equipment depth - but honestly that may appeal to VN purists. There are not many required fights in this current iteration of the game, but I can see that the bones are there to further expand if the developer so chooses to down the line.
My main complaint (aside from vehemently needing more) is that it's missing some core VN features - in particular, the ability to read/jump to past text, fast-forward previously read text, and quick save/load. You can only save in the overworld, which makes revisiting specific scenes or choices potentially time-consuming (especially in the final sequence of events).
Very excited to see the future of this game!!

I don’t normally leave reviews of any kind, but for this game, I find myself writing one. I suppose I cannot be silent about The Silent Kingdom (hehe).
I have played the prologue and first chapter multiple times by now and have (I believe) experienced most of the possible dialogue choices. Suffice to say, I was completely sucked into this world and lost quite a bit of sleep immersing myself in it.
This is an incredibly beautiful game and is obviously a labor of love from the developer. The graphics are wonderfully detailed, and the mechanics perfectly suit the story it’s trying to tell. It is dark and atmospheric, and the visuals and music complement that beautifully.
The premise was enticing, and the work put into the worldbuilding overdelivers. It was very hard not to get attached to the romanceable characters. The writing for the two routes seeps with yearning and devotion, and the developer is truly talented at creating tension.
It is not often that I come across a romance RPG that blends both genres so cohesively. I was pleasantly surprised to find there are quite a bit more RPG elements than I expected. The romance, while optional, serves to reveal more of the characters’ depth.
I have played RPGs with romance elements and romance games with RPG elements, but this is the first I’ve played where I felt both were treated with equal reverence. The presence of one genre does not cheapen the other but instead adds more value to each, creating an engaging experience overall.
It is a gem of a game, and I am appalled there are fewer people than I expected talking about it! It deserves all the hype and more. This is the game I’ve always always wanted to play. Thank you so much for finally creating it.

Okay, where do I even start? The Silent Kingdom completely took me by surprise.
At first, everything is just gorgeous — vibrant, stunning landscapes, the kind of beauty you’d expect from a world blessed by the harmony of The Goddess. But honestly? It doesn’t take long before you start feeling like something’s... off. Like, suspiciously off. And right when you’re soaking in all this "perfect" world, boom — the princess, our main character, finds herself trapped in a kingdom swallowed by darkness and crawling with Terrors. From there, the game hands you choices that can either pull her out of this nightmare or lock her in even deeper. And that’s when things really get good.
Characters:
Now, yes, there are multiple love interests — and trust me, they’re all intriguing — but the two main ones I got really invested in were Chrono and Seneca.
Chrono is the princess’s squire, and let me tell you, watching his character growth is amazing. The way the game ties together past memories that affect the present? Absolutely beautiful. And even better — you, the player, actually impact the past too, not just the "now." Chrono starts off as this adorable kid who absolutely adores the princess, but as the story moves forward, you see him transform into this stoic knight who’s clearly tortured by the fear of failing her again. You still see glimpses of his tenderness and youthful affection, but it’s layered with so much more depth and heartbreak. Ugh, I loved every second of it.
Seneca, on the other hand, is like the complete opposite. He’s a magician and a bit of a troublemaker — like, he lives to provoke, especially poking holes in the princess’s naïve little view of the world. It’s really interesting because while at first, he seems shady and untrustworthy, if you pay attention, you start picking up hints that maybe... the only reason he’s so jaded is because he’s never really known a world with light. He’s not cruel; it’s almost like he’s trying to protect her from the heartbreak he knows is coming. I loved that complexity.
And honestly? As much as I adored these two, I was most impressed by our princess.
She's capable. She's strong. She's willing to face this horrifying world on her own if she has to — and even cooler, the game lets you do that. No forced romance if you don't want it. But when she does open up to her companions? She’s vulnerable without being weak. She chooses to lean on others sometimes, but she never needs to. It’s such a refreshing take, especially in a genre where the female lead is either totally helpless or has to completely steamroll everyone around her to seem "strong."
Gameplay Mechanics:
Now... let’s get into gameplay because, oh boy, The Silent Kingdom went above and beyond here. As an avid otome player, I was ready to mash the "A" button through dialogue like usual — but nope, they gave us so much more.
First off, the dialogue options are amazing. You get real choices, and they matter! Like, actually matter. I can't tell you how satisfying it was when a character would turn me down because I hadn’t built up enough of a bond with them — it made every interaction feel earned. Plus, the small, missable conversations and interactions you could have based on previous dialogue choices? Absolute chef’s kiss.
On top of that, you can roam the world freely, explore beautiful areas, interact with objects and NPCs, and even fight enemies in a turn-based system — but with timed reaction mechanics that kept battles from feeling stale. Plus, quick-time events during cutscenes?? An actual trust meter when you're talking to people?? Yes, please! Oh, and a small but important thing: you can run or walk. No more painfully slow trips across maps. It’s the little things that show how much love went into this game.
Art and Visuals:
Okay, let’s just take a second to appreciate how gorgeous this game is.
The character art? Beautiful. Honestly gave me major Eureka Seven vibes (shoutout to Kenichi Yoshida's style) mixed with backgrounds as breathtaking as Odin Sphere.
Character sprites move naturally, talk with animations, show emotions — and when big moments hit? We get beautiful full-screen CGs that just slam you with emotion. I still can’t believe this is coming from an indie dev, and to top it off, it’s a single person at that?! It's absolutely insane and utter GREATNESS.
Music and Sound:
Now. We have to talk about the music.
The soundtrack by Mikel Dale? It had no business being this good.
Epic. Mesmerizing. Full of heart. The game knows exactly when to drop those songs too — they’re not just looping in the background; they hit at the right moments. It’s been a long time since I played a game where the music alone pulled me in this hard. (Side note: my husband isn’t even into dating sims and even he got curious because the soundtrack was that good. We were literally debating dialogue options together — that’s how powerful the combo of plot + music was.)
Replayability:
As soon as I finished the early access chapter, I was already itching to restart and make new choices, pursue different characters, unlock hidden scenes. I love that the game doesn’t spoon-feed you the "correct" answers for romances either — it makes every relationship feel authentic and genuinely earned. Playing "blind" made falling in love with the characters and story feel real, not mechanical. Just like it used to feel when I first discovered otomes.
Areas for Improvement:
Honestly? There’s not a lot I would change.
Maybe a few little things like letting us save at any time (right now it's only at set points, but there's autosave, so not the end of the world), maybe adding more button prompts during battles for elemental dodging (keep us even more on our toes), and controller configuration options would be nice. Oh, and a basic "Auto" for text if people wanna just chill during dialogue.

The artstyle is BEAUTIFUL, every background is a masterpiece and the character's designs are also awesome. I personally love that the protagonist is NOT the stereotypical kind and naive princess that would not hurt a fly. The gameplay is very enjoyable and it is easy to understand despite not being familiarized with RPG. I think the price is worth it if you like dark story, love triangles, puzzles and turn-based battles.

Wow - to the solo dev: you wrote this dark and mesmerizing story, did all the art (which is better than a good chunk of professional JPRGs and otomes I've played), composed the haunting soundtrack and managed to weave in messaging and symbolism that made me pause and reflect... by yourself? I cannot wait for the full game and see what else you will create. Amazing.
