Beat Slayer
Put on your headphones, feel the beat, step into the flow and survive. Beat Slayer is all about rhythm and fighting. Pick a crazy weapon like the flamethrowing axe and turn hordes of robots into scrap metal by creating your own symphony of destruction.
Beat Slayer is a roguelite hack n’ slay game like no other. Instead of just being in the background the music takes centre stage.
Join Mia, a badass music lover and crafty tinkerer, as she battles hordes of robots in a dystopian 80s inspired Berlin. There’s only one rule:
Every move you make has to match the rhythm of the soundtrack. Fail to do so and you’ll pay the price. No button mashing, no frantic inputs. Only smooth and skillful gameplay will lead to your victory.
Think you can’t handle the groove?
Unlockable new weapons, upgrades and skills will make you stronger with every new run.
The more you play the more your sense of rhythm will increase.
Fight in the hidden corners of Berlin, a city that has been taken over by robots and corrupted by evil forces. You’ll fight your way through various locations, from underground clubs to abandoned factories, each with its own vibe, challenges and tunes.

I got this game for $13 during the Steam Rhythm Game sale.
Overall, I enjoyed my time with the game. It took me just under 8 hours to complete the story (5 loops total).
If I had to compare this to another game, I would call it Rhythm Hades. The gameplay is very responsive and feels good, the music is great (but limited), and the story is enough to get you by. The upgrade choices during a run and outside of a run aren't super deep, but they were enough to keep me interested.
I don't know how long the devs plan on supporting this game, but if they make any updates, I would love to see more stages, more songs, and deeper upgrade paths. I'm definitely going to keep an eye on them in case they make a sequel to this game. This game has great bones and has a lot of potential to grow into a spectacular game.

Love the beat. I am terrible at roguelike games. I always miss the beat. (But I still enjoy it. and will keep playing it.)
The story is simple & so are the characters but since the gameplay loop is pretty memorable and nice and the music gets me carried away I absolutely recommend it.
What I particularly like is the game's attention to detail. There are LOTS of construction sites, graffitis, trash, kebab shops and late night kiosks (all things that can be seen very often in Berlin) and I immediately felt at home :D

Great experience. Soundtrack feels great, controls and feel are okay, you have interesting characters to talk with at the base. You'll eventually get 3 weapons to choose from. This and the variety of different power-ups allows for the combat to feel fresh most of the time.
If you want to get the good ending though, you'll have to play some additional content. And I wish it was a tad easier. Robots at the very end have too much hp, which makes fights feel more slow and boring when compared to before. Also If after 'main' gameplay I felt incredible about the game, my emotions got more washed out the longer I played. Had additional content for the best ending been a bit shorter - it would've been better.

I know this has been said before, but this game is heavily influenced by roguelikes like Hades and similar games. At the same time it is a rhythm-game at its core. The concept works really well and the game is not too hard, so it is a good entry point for players of either genre wanting to try out the other. If you like both genres this is the game for you, just make sure to start on the hard difficulty, since I wish I had done that. Anarchy, the hardest difficulty, is designed for a 2nd playthrough though, since every enemy can pop up in every level and it is nice to have that enemy progression in a first playthrough.
The music is cool, the gameplay is tight, the artstyle is super nice and interesting and the story and characters are charming, while being arguably the weakest link in an overall strong chain. It just has to be said, since those are the parallels people are drawing, compared to Hades and Hi-Fi RUSH, which are 2 of the greatest games of all time imo, this can't keep up. Obviously there is no shame in that and the devs seem to know that, so they built a much tighter and shorter game, that is great while it lasts and is finished before it can get old.

Beat Slayer has been a very pleasant surprise for me. The rhythm gameplay is a ton of fun to play, and I have yet to tire from starting over. It might be easy to overlook this title with the high number of releases coming out this time of year. But if you’re a fan of rhythm games and rogues, you won’t want to skip this title. It’s pretty special and I could see more of this style of gaming in the future.

Well-made rythm slasher. The soundtrack is decent, progression can be felt and the input-to-beat timing is on the spot with no delays. Only downside is that level design is generic and there's not much variety. Still fun to play for a couple hours.

The rhythm hack 'n slay I always needed in my life!
Fight your way through a dystopian Berlin and upgrade your loadout in an roguelike attire. Quests and upgrades after every loop keep you busy for a while. Cool characters, smooth gameplay and an absolutely BOMBASTIC german synchronization. Joe's Berlin slang alone is peak! This game deserves way more attention.
I hope the devs continue developing on this gem or make a sequel. More weapons, more music and more cool characters. I'll be here for it!
