“我要和你去踏触纷扬的雪莹,
感受阳光流落花间的快晴,
整个世界淅淅沥沥的落雨,
如幻的蜃景。”
红色的叶与黑色的风,
门卫的妖怪与沏茶的少女,
樱花树与树下的倒影,
张开与闭上的眼睛,
还有那风和云,共同涌入气象的万千。

東方龍隱談 ~ Chaos of Black Loong is a distinctive indie title that blends bullet-hell shooting, light adventure elements, and atmospheric storytelling into a compact but ambitious experience. Developed and published by Lonhong Team, the game positions itself firmly within the broader Touhou fan-game tradition while also drawing heavily from Chinese mythological aesthetics and poetic sensibilities. From the very beginning, it makes clear that it is less concerned with accessibility or mass appeal and more focused on delivering a mood-driven journey shaped by pattern-based combat, symbolic mechanics, and a dreamlike sense of place.
The world presented in Chaos of Black Loong feels deliberately elusive and impressionistic. Rather than relying on straightforward exposition, the game communicates its narrative through evocative dialogue, environmental cues, and stylized character interactions. Players are drawn into a disturbance originating from the Chinese realm, with mystical forces bleeding into Gensokyo and disrupting its fragile balance. The writing leans toward lyrical and metaphorical language, giving the story an almost folktale-like quality. While the lack of an official English localization limits narrative clarity for non-Chinese speakers, the emotional tone still comes through strongly thanks to expressive character art and carefully chosen visual motifs. Even when the exact meaning of a line is unclear, the intent and atmosphere remain palpable.
Gameplay revolves around traditional top-down bullet-hell mechanics but distinguishes itself through several layered systems that encourage strategic play rather than pure reflexes. One of the most notable features is the dual-character setup, where players choose paired characters and can switch between them during combat. Each character brings different attack styles, movement characteristics, or situational advantages, and swapping at the right moment can mean the difference between survival and failure. This mechanic adds a subtle tactical dimension, rewarding players who learn when to play aggressively and when to retreat or reposition using their alternate character.
Complementing this is the Dragon Soul system, which ties survival, scoring, and defensive mechanics together. As players collect Dragon Souls during play, they gain access to automatic defensive effects that can convert incoming bullet patterns into score items when certain thresholds are met. This encourages risk-reward decision-making, as players must stay close to danger to maximize gains while trusting their mastery of patterns to avoid fatal mistakes. The spell card and Last Spell mechanics further deepen this loop, especially during boss encounters, where phases escalate in complexity and intensity depending on player performance. Boss fights are a particular highlight, showcasing dense but readable bullet patterns that feel challenging without being unfair, at least for players familiar with the genre.
Visually, the game embraces a hand-drawn anime style that emphasizes character expression and thematic cohesion over technical spectacle. Backgrounds are often painterly and subdued, allowing the bright, intricate bullet patterns to stand out clearly against the environment. Character portraits and in-game sprites reinforce the game’s folkloric tone, blending elegance with an undercurrent of menace. The soundtrack plays a crucial role in shaping the experience, alternating between tranquil, almost meditative tracks during calmer moments and more urgent compositions during intense combat. While the production values are modest, the audiovisual elements work together effectively to sustain immersion and reinforce the game’s identity.
In terms of difficulty, Chaos of Black Loong generally strikes a reasonable balance, though it is not without spikes. Early and mid-game stages ease players into its systems, but later encounters, particularly certain late-stage bosses, demand sharp pattern recognition and disciplined movement. These moments can feel punishing, especially for players unfamiliar with Touhou-style bullet density, but they also provide some of the most satisfying victories once mastered. The challenge feels intentional rather than arbitrary, reinforcing the sense that the game expects patience and dedication from its audience.
Overall, 東方龍隱談 ~ Chaos of Black Loong is a focused and passionate project that succeeds on its own terms. It is not a game designed to introduce newcomers to the bullet-hell genre, nor does it prioritize broad accessibility through localization or simplified systems. Instead, it offers a richly atmospheric experience for players who enjoy methodical pattern-based combat, experimental mechanics, and story presentation rooted in mood rather than exposition. For fans of Touhou fangames or players seeking a more contemplative take on the bullet-hell formula, it stands as a compelling example of how a small team can craft something memorable through cohesive design and clear artistic intent.

Longhong is fairly good at making Touhou games with the controls and patterns being good with some voice acting in it which is rare for bullhell games under the Touhou name
My issue is there is no EN patch even though people have offered to make it for the Devs which is a bit disappointing
Outside of the no EN issue I would say it is good and was nice to play as the Komeiji sisters in good bullhell game for once
