XENONAUTS-2 is a vast single player strategy game in which you control a multi-national military organisation defending our planet from alien invasion.
Battle the extraterrestrials in tense, complex turn-based combat across a variety of maps and missions, recovering and researching their technology to unlock new weapons and equipment!
Take a global view with the real-time strategic management layer: you must establish and develop your bases, conduct research, battle for air supremacy and try to keep the panic level in your funding regions under control.
The strategic and tactical layers of the game are directly related, with ground missions affecting the overall balance of the Geoscape and your research efforts on the recovered items unlocking new equipment for your squads and aircraft. Every management decision you make filters down to the troops you control in battle; every shot you fire could change the balance of strategic power.
Can you hold off the invasion long enough to discover a way to defeat the alien forces?
No knowledge of the previous game is required to play – XENONAUTS-2 is a standalone title with its own setting and narrative.Key Features
- Ground Combat: The highly-detailed turn-based combat system gives you fine control over your soldiers as they battle the aliens across multiple different mission types and numerous varied environments. The day / night cycle and destructible battlefields open up endless tactical possibilities to defeat your enemies, and your soldiers will grow stronger as they gain combat experience – provided you can keep them alive!
- Strategic Management: A complex strategic layer allows you to coordinate the defence of our planet. Establish bases to extend your reach and use customisable interceptors to shoot down attacking UFOs, then deploy your soldiers to secure resources. Capturing crash sites can secure alien technology and live specimens for research, whereas protecting regions from alien activity and terror attacks will protect your funding and prevent them surrendering to the aliens.
- In-depth Simulation: The structure of Xenonauts-2 is not linear; no two campaigns unfold in exactly the same way. Every element of this complex interlocking simulation has been designed to create maximum coherence between the strategic and tactical layers: small decisions can have an impact across the entire game.
- Extensive Tech Tree: XENONAUTS-2 contains a vast variety of aircraft, vehicles, weapons, armour, and battlefield equipment for you to experiment with. and a deep research tree with over a hundred projects to unlock. Play the game the way you want to play, devising your own tactics and strategies to defeat the extraterrestrial threat!

A good turn based game, centered around fighting aliens and trying to save humanity.
You can tell it's still in early access. Lots of parts of the game need polishing and refining. Some visual arts are missing, for techologies, or briefing on some story missions. It doesn't take a way the pleasure of playing, but it breaks the immersion.
Soldier progression is a bit tedious to understand, it's based on actions your soldiers take in tactical missions.
But once you stop worrying too much about it, you realise your soldier just grow stats steadily, mission after mission, independant of their ranks, wich in a way isn't that bad.
Base construction is rather simple, with proximity bonuses when you place similar buildings next to one another.
Air combat is a work in progress, best leave it to autoresolve for now. It's still fuctionning, even if very impractical.
What i personaly dislike most about the game is how fragile your soldiers, and even war machines, are.
As soon as foes have their best weapons (they get better and better as game progresses, much like what happens in XCOM, except with a good justification, story related, that I will not spoil), your soldiers get easily one shot, even from accross the map.
Even with the best armor you can manufacture, they can survive one direct hit, but they will be lucky if they survive 2 shots. This makes you feel like their survivability is the same, whether they wear high tech armors, or low grade kevlar from the early 1980's.
Weapons are a very different thing. You can feel the difference from each weapon's tier. It kinda compensate for how fragile your boys (and gals) are late game, since you too can 1 shot the baddies. But you gonna need a loooooong time for you to be able to fully fill a squad with the best weapons humanity will get to build in this game.
Not to mention that if you lose soldiers on the field, and leave them behind, you lose their gear too (unless another of your soldier carries it back home), unless you win the mission and it's not one of those where you "evacuate" the AOP , leaving every corps behind.
Also, gear can be destroyed, beware those nasty grenades, or even some blast shots that can reduce your high end guns/armors to junk.
All this makes it very difficult to maintain a sufficient roster of well performing soldiers, with good enough gear for each of them.
I found the strategic layer very much easier to deal with than the tactical. Too much losses, that are really time consuming to replace. And time makes you lose even more soldiers and equipment.
In the end, you win the game. But it feels weird.
Still, I like the fact that you WILL lose men. It brings a more dramatic narative to the story than XCOM did, for instance. Even your best soldiers are still men, not demi-gods. They get killed easily and one mistake can cost you dearly. It's HOW the game makes it happen that feels unfullfilling.
Early game, your soldiers should be totally under armed, and over powered even by a handfull of foes. I would not be surprised to see a squad of 8 trained soldiers struggle to take down 2 aliens that have weapons and armor centuries over what your team has. It makes sens that 1 unlucky shot is enough to take them down, with very low chances of survival. And your foes armors are so good that even heavily shot at, they wont go down easily.
Late game, you should have made significant progress in armor techs, so your soldiers dont die that easily. And currently, the game doesn't really make you feel this way. The difficulty should instead come from the fact that the ayys get desperate, and throw everything they have at you, so you encounter more and more enemies on missions, often being surrounded by more enemies than you have soldiers on the field. But since they can survive getting hit a few times, due to HOW GOOD YOUR ARMORS ARE NOW, they can stand their ground and thin the herd, hoping they can do it fast enough so that they dont die in the end.
Currently, at this point in game, your team OFTEN GETS surrounded, but they dont stand a chance. Dont be surprised to lose half of them in not more than 2 unlucky turns.
Feels right early on, very wrong later on.
If you took time to read this all, I hope my opinion helped you decide whether or not you want to buy this game.
Dont lose sight that it's still early access. If you want a more refined and well polished game, maybe wait for full release. Things might change a lot by then.

Un genre de remaster du premier mais ajoutant du nouveau contenu et un lore différent en somme une genre de version alternative plus moderne de l'opus originel.

Similar as UFO unknown ennemy (the very fist one from Mister Golop), it is more difficult tactically than Xcom series. I personnaly prefer this one even I'm huge fan of Xcom too.

Ca ressemble à X-Com, ça a l'atmosphère d' X-Com, les mêmes mécanismes...mais c'est encore mieux^^
