Warlocks 2: God Slayers
Warlocks 2: God Slayers is a humorous action RPG game with online and local co-op. Challenge the vile gods and dethrone them in this action-packed hack’n' slash experience with wizards and meteor showers. God Slayers is a brand new story. Take the role of one of the Warlocks and face the gods themselves, as slashing hordes of shadow monsters in the past have angered them, to say the least. The Order of Warlocks has been called to challenge and dethrone arrogant gods from the thrones – make them pay for their betrayal. Core features: Hilarious pixel art with hand-drawn animations. Dynamic hack 'n slash experience in solo, local and online co-op (up to 4 players). More than 40 types of challenging enemies that work together to take you down, using their unique skill sets. 5 different types of Warlocks to choose, each with their own abilities to unlock throughout the game. Special familiar slot for your character (with evolutions!). 8-10 hours of gameplay to complete the solo adventure with one Warlock. Giant, powerful bosses waiting to get slayed. Extensive maps with tons of randomly generated loot to be picked up. Colorful narration with plenty of jokes and humour.

I don't really understand all the negativity in the reviews on Steam for this game... This game is far from being half as bad as some people pretend it to be. In fact it reminded me a lot of Blades of Vengeance on the sega genesis.
Totally recommend this game even if there are some minor flaws here and there. (I read that not all characters can reach some secret areas but like always I say they're simply not trying hard enough!)

Positives:
Genuinely funny.
Local co-op.
Looks good, excellent pixel art and motif.
Great game for playing with casuals, such as your SO.
Negatives:
Does not run at 4k, need to set desktop to 1080P resolution before playing. (Almost refunded purchase because of this--please fix.)
Sometimes runs less than smooth.
Controls can't be configured anyplace but in the main menu, somewhat inconvenient. Default control schemes aren't so great.
Steam controller needs to be configured, no existing profiles (what else is new).
With a few patches this game would be really awesome, without still very playable.

TL;DR: I am having a blast. Buy it.
Non TL;DR:
Imagine Terraria or Starbound but without the building/creation elements. Now pump more RPG elements, coat it with wacky humor and jokes and some of the most unique and innovative player characters I ever seen.
I know audiovisuals shouldn't play the leading role when you judge video games but bloody hell - those over here are simply amazing. The art style, one of the best Pixel Art I ever seen, the music, the audio, the animations and special effects. So much love and passion must have went into this.
But I do have some complains, yes:
1. First of all - I think the character progression should be a bit... faster. Because it's grindy at times here and now. Either that - or buffing some skills.
2. Please, give me crunch D: A bullet or projectile is heading my way - and the only way to avoid that is by jumping. Almost every game in existence have some sort of crunch/crawl. But in here - we have really to no means of dodging.
3. Every character has MANY skills yet you can have only two active - this limits the possible playstyles greatly.
Overall - Warlocks 2 has that "just one more level" syndrom, where you start the game and suddenly realize - 5h came and went lol.

I really like this game despite its flaws.
Word of warning: Do not play with a controller the aim is to too slow and the lock on is terrible.
Some platforms like the ones in tutorial area and the faun god boss room simply do not stand out are are difficult to notice, thankfully this is not an issue in later levels. This might be resolved by adding a gamma slider but i can not be sure.
Another issue I have is the rapid loss of healing items in the faun god boss fight: Spent 20 healing items just trying to stop his regeneration or to kill those floating enemy resurrecting jerkbags, only to die? Well have fun farming healing items just so you can try again.
Speaking of healing items why do the same stacking items heal for different amounts? example: Healing item A heals for 30% or the next time its 35% and then after that maybe its 24% ect...
The game does not really inform the player of how necessary a ranged attack is until the Faun God, and it does so by killing you. Repeatedly. The same goes with certain bosses and their instant kill attacks. As well as the dash moves and other movement abilities. Not for combat, but just being able to get around the map and find the "secret" set items.
Final edit: Always pick the purple egg.
All in all its a great game that is totally worth its price.

Welcome to the humorous yet challenging world of Warlocks 2: God Slayers, a difficult 2D action pixel game with RPG elements and an old school flavor. With three play styles available - single-player, online co-op and local co-op - the variety of play gives the title many ways to enjoy it. The journey is filled with expansive levels to explore for treasure, as well as the glory of battle. There will be many powerful enemies to overcome in your struggle for dominance over the Gods. Survive the many engagements in each level, each with an abundance of the Gods’ minions that you must face before you confront the mighty and vile bosses. The 5 characters, each with individual skill trees and gear sets to upgrade, will give many hours of entertainment. Bring your "A" game for this brutal adventure you're about to partake in as you explore the vast atmospheres of the world. All you old school arcade players will love the feel and gameplay!
Released on July 18, 2019, by the developer Frozen District and published by No Gravity Games it is tagged as Action, RPG, 2D, Pixel Graphic, Online Co-op; I have added Difficult, Local Co-op, Platformer as well. It features three torturous universes to conquer, and from which to vanquish the Gods, each with unique landscapes and distinctive enemies to defeat. It has attractive pixel graphics with hand-drawn animations set in a comical atmosphere. A pleasant soundtrack compliments the worlds’ graphical design. There is a multitude of characters to meet along the way, from whom you will receive quests and trade. Over 40 diverse enemy types as well as challenging bosses to defeat. A myriad of items to collect to upgrade your characters’ armors, weapons and stats. An XP system utilizing an unlockable skill tree for all characters, as well as pets to join you in your travels that are also evolvable.
A fun and challenging game, it is quite difficult at times and death will visit often. I divided my playtime between single-player and co-op with my son, I had a harder time alone than when we played together. I do prefer co-op gaming over single-player for most indie titles when available, as we are a large family unit of gamers who love gaming together. I did find the controls were not as responsive as I’d like for a modern game. But, as a gamer who grew up in the arcades since the very birth of video games, the retro style they are shooting for make the controls feel normal as I let my mind drift back to the glory days of the old school games like it. More fluid control would have been nice, but I will not hold it against the title as I found it rather fitting. I would not recommend it if you are just looking for a casual play, unless you really like getting repeatedly slayed (lol). With the many hours of play time you get from the title and endless re-playability with multi-player, it is a good investment for one’s library.

Nice game. I like it retro graphic style and animated movements. Playable characters are very original and fun with lots of skills to discover, stuff to wear and enemy to defeat. Classic 2d rpg with light and humorous plot.
