I underestimated this game!
I was curious about the game but thought the mechanics are not 'it' and... ye they are a bit stiff in some ways. It isn't a guitar hero where precision is a must. You can slip but still fumble your way through situtations... - its nice you dont get smacked for doing porly but a bit more feedback or control (other than swinging your stick) would have helped... - makes for mixed feeligns...
HOWEVER...
The story is compelling and the way its told is LEGIT HILARIOUS! ...
Right from the start and hours in i had good belly laughs about the world and its characters!
It not just makes everyone darn charming - even NPCs you only meet once - but the game as a howl.
The game is very self-aware about it being a game but never in an annoying way. Its easy to do (sigh) what deadpool does (sigh) and just talk to the camera because thats... clever? no - it knows when and how to twist your 'this is a game' sense and twist it just enough you feel its very refreshing!
Often enough I had the feeling "ok - i know how that works in other games, seen it 1000x times..." and then Wandersongs goes "alright- lets skip that part or do it differently" and i was like "oh - really?I - did not expect THAT... cool!"
Like exposition is at times skipped or cut short - and other times the game takes your hand to guide you or even once slaps it away and said "lets go with this direction" (its hard to say much about this without explaining huge spoilers and ruining the fun for you later) ...
One MINOR nod and a wink i will say. When the dance (mechanic? idk its just youd ance but it doesnt do much other than look funny... so far) ... is introduced, the mask wearing teacher asks you if you know how to dance - if you tell him you dont, he will ask you to imagine something "like a controller" and this "controller can perform actions" ... which is rather funny tbh.
The game is simply pure joy.
There is no combat. The bard is always up beat and positive about everything. And the world embraces his nonsense!
Though he still is just a bard, not a hero, so... its hard to be taken serious. Its an uphill battle... one you need to climb, by singing the hell out of it! ... that's so weird....
To throw out a comparisson: Wandersong is the YING to Baldur's Gate 3's YAN.
>BG3 wants you to kill yourself at every turn. It really does. It lets you run so you can trip up even harder.
>Wandersong is the game that gets you up, pats your shoulder, and tells you 'not bad, why not try again, just watch your step".
It does this by holding your hand, and there aint a bazillion ways to experience it, but it does deliver in those ways that matter. I think its suited for kids (if those have some patience) but also for those grown adults (like me) who had one too many "the world is dark and evil and nobody likes you (even though you save em)" games. It wears on you eventually...
My rating is: thanks for a great time / 10.
ps. after 11hrs i finished it...
At times it can be tedious but they try mixing it up and despite all of it... it felt good saving the world - through song ♥
psps. ... you really get to care about Miriam... that little witch... ~ she makes you feels ♥

Truly beautiful game. You can feel how much love was put into making this from the first minute till the very end. I highly recommend this!! A smart and heartwarming twist to the typical "player is the hero" trope! If you love silly interactions with characters, funny tiny details to discover, puzzles that aren't too hard but also not boringly easy and a good story with character development, then this game is perfect for you! First time for me writing smth like this bcs this actually deserves all the support it gets! <3

You ever wanted to feel, like you really don't matter and the HERO is someone else entirely and you just get to be a silly little bard? Then this is the game for you!
It's very fun, very charming and cute whilst having lots of intriguing and lovable characters and storylines. Also, the clever mechanics involving music and storytelling make me love this game. Perfect for a few cozy nights :)
