Viking: Battle for Asgard
A fierce struggle is taking place within Asgard, the realm of the Norse Gods. The battle has escalated, spilling over to the mortal world of Midgard and now a Champion must be found, a Warrior than can sway this war that threatens the fate of Asgard and the Gods themselves.
The goddess Hel – daughter of Loki, Norse God of mischief, has been banished from the heavenly kingdom of Asgard for defying Odin’s rule. Angry at her fate, she seeks to release the ancient wolf-god Fenrir which legend tells will bring about Ragnarok – the apocalyptic battle that will destroy Asgard and the Gods. With her army of resurrected Viking warriors, Hel marches on the unsuspecting mortal realm of Midgard.
Odin’s daughter Freya, goddess of love and wisdom, is appointed the task of stopping Hel and defending the future of mankind. For her champion she chooses Skarin, a great but troubled young warrior, ignorant of the true reason for his favour with the Gods and thrust into the midst of their bitter war.
As Skarin, players will experience unparalleled battle scenes, leading the charge in a titanic clash between powerful gods and mere men. War on an unprecedented scale will rage across a beautifully realised Viking landscape.Key Features

Hopefully it's worth 0.00$ that I spent on it.
PS: Recommend the game, but 30 fps cap ruins the some of the game.
Nobody will read my review so I Will Eat 1 Tablespoon of ketchup For Every Like this gets.

I initially skipped Viking: Battle for Asgard due to lukewarm reviews, but the price drop to $30 caught my eye. While it's not a groundbreaking experience, for that price, it offers a decent Viking-themed adventure.
The story is fair to good - you explore islands, solve puzzles, and upgrade your gear. As a Viking history buff, I found it mildly engaging, but it does get repetitive. The same goes for the difficulty; the combat is easy to learn and features gory finishing moves (justifying the M rating), but enemies are easily outsmarted. While the graphics aren't bad, the cutscenes between battles felt unnecessary.
Overall, I'm glad I played it for the discounted price (around 12-15 hours). I probably won't finish it, but it provided some mindless Viking fun. If you're a Viking enthusiast looking for a budget title, Viking: Battle for Asgard might be worth a shot.

Everything is great about this game even if it gets repetitive, the combat makes this game so epic and this is a childhood favourite. I am so happy i can play this game it is worth it.

Old, but gold. The graphics for this held up surprisingly well, and I love that I didn't have to struggle to make it work for my ultra wide monitor.
I wish CA would make a game like this mixed with total war. Something like Kingdom Under Fire but less linear.
Used loseless scaling to to remedy the 30fps lock.
Catch on sale, unless you played this on the 360 and have no problem paying extra for a bit of nostalgia.

Its a pretty solid old school action rpg, its got alot of cool things going for it late game. I remember being addicted as a high schooler because it got super good. Definitely worth picking up if you enjoy hack and slash/army command type of games. The executions are my fav part.
EDIT: Not sure why steam says this game has no controller support, playing it with my xbox controller just fine.

Viking: Battle for Asgard is like a time capsule of mid 2000s action shlock.
It's got QTEs for killing anything bigger than a regular dude, the format of gameplay is fairly repetitive, the music is forgettable, how hard or easy guys go down is completely inconsistent, with the same type of dude dying to one swing or surviving full combos. Sub-items don't really add that much and going full unga-bunga is faster, getting from place to place with regular movement speed before fast travel is unlocked for areas is slower than you'd like, and generally this plays it fast and loose with how vikings actually were, which is kind of weird coming from a company that focused for a time on video games based on specific historical settings.
Why complain that much and still recommend it? The mass combat. The big set piece moments in this game are the giant battles between the viking clans that you've rallied to your cause and the Legion goonsquads. If you've been annoyed by games that only give you three dudes to back you up against a slightly larger than normal numbers of bad dudes and then pretended that it's a giant battle, this game has you covered. Each island the game takes place on has at least one huge fight that caps off that chunk of the game, and the number of dudes involved does not disappoint, this is like being a part of a Real Time Strategy game. Its clearly what sets it apart from the other action games that came out at the time, and there's another timeline where this game kicked off a developer arms races to make bigger and more indepth battles.
Aside from the gigantic battles, the word that I think describes Viking: Battle for Asgard best is "Mild". I can't imagine that much in moment to moment gameplay is going to jump out at you, but if what Viking lays out for you is what you're looking for, then you should be able to enjoy it. I give the game a tentative recommendation, it's really only going to appeal to a narrow niche, but it should appeal to them fairly well.

This is yet another GEM. This game deserves NO hate. It is damn near perfect! I wish is had visual changes happen to the sword the 2 different times you enhance it and the story ending is kind of so so but those things aside, this is from the golden era of gaming (2004-2014) There is SO much to love! This is a good Litmus test to see whose opinion you can trust for game reviews; if someone doesn't admit this is gold regardless if they personally like it or not then you know they aren't a valid source for critique. We need more game like this. This game walked so Shadow of Mordor could run!
