Although a departure in terms of genre from the previous games, it keeps the feeling alive and is a great experience.
Just like Valfaris 1 or Slain, you can casually beat it in 2-4 hours on medium difficulty on your first playthrough. The only fight that made retry a dozen times was the final battle. On normal difficulty this game feels a bit easier than its predecessors but i havent tried the harder difficulties yet and they might give me the challenge i'm looking for in my games.
My only point of contention is, that you no longer have a perfect guard system. You get a dash that kind of replicates the effect of breaking and opponents offense and stuns them for a moment, but it feel like it has a substantial cool down and overall doesn't feel the same. I understand why they did this, as standing still and guarding with perfect timing doesnt feel right in a sidescrolling shmup - but still, the fights in Slain and Valfaris 1, that you had to master perfect guard for, were some of my absolute favorite moments gameplay wise.
Pet peeve aside, great game. Thumbs up. Looking forward to playing Slain 2.
